Zachary sounds so fucking amazing!!! It's rare to find someone who in real life sounds exactly as they do on an album. Pure fucking talent with his vocals.
I had the pleasure of knowing Criss and Jon. I went to Dunedin Hish School with them and was in many classes with Criss. I also partied my ass off at the Pit many times while watching them grow into the great musicians they are. God Bless Criss!
yeah Alex is a truly beast at strings, probably the main reason for me to stay with Testament stuff, Chuck is not the best singer into this world XD but hey, they still does a great stuff
This the era where Alex Skolnick (Testament) filled the shoes of Criss Oliva. Alex cited Criss as a huge influence on him and was thrilled when he got the call from Savatage to join them.
Zak's vocals are FLAWLESS. How many singers can do that live? I've never heard any other. And Chris Olivia's guitar leads are absolute perfection. One of the best guitar players that ever lived. Gutter Ballet to Edge of Thorns- Those were the golden age of music.
You were talking about this particular live performance, so yeah, that does matter. You need to give credit where credit is due. Skolnick was playing the leads here and he did a great job. That doesnt take away from Chris' ability or skills or the indelible mark he left.
I STARTED off talking about this particular live performance and then pivoted into talking about Savatage in general. Skolnick did alright here but, no I have no need to go out of my way to talk about him because I could care less about him. I like Savatage, particularly Zak, Chris, and Jon. That is what I felt like talking about. Skolnick wasn't even part of the band, he was a fill in. If you love him so much, make your own comment and give him all the praise you want. Nothing wrong with that. But stop trying to debate the meaning of my comment. That's pretty stupid. My comment was limited to exactly what I said. I don't have to expand it to include the drummer, the bass player, the fill in guitarists they have had... it's really dumb to go back and forth because To didn't like the fact that I didn't include the guy you like. Just start your own comment and tell everyone how great you think Skolnick is.
Damn son, someone's had a bit too much Salt before posting. If you like Criss' writing, then you should still respect Skolnick because after all he was willing to step in and perform! taking over from a dead man with a Legacy as great as his was, leaves some pretty big shoes to fill, and just pressure in general, so Skolnick deserves all the respect whether you like him or not! I think what Nicholas was trying to say is that it did not seem like you "pivoted" into talking about them in general at all, mainly because you then said "AND Chris Olivia's guitar leads ARE absolute perfection" which from it being present tense would indicate you're still on the same subject, that being of a live performance. Basically it's pretty clear that you're just getting salty with other people because you fucked up! Oh, and another thing... it's Criss* not "Chris".
I fucking LOVE this. Savatage is my favorite rock band of all time. I had the privilege of of seeing them in concert once. Rest in peace Criss, you were the BEST ever.
I have been listening to Savatage since Hall of the Mountain King.. These guys are absolute legends and innovators and it's a shame they never got the credit (or the record sales) they deserved..
Does not get much better. This was all happening during the grunge era - and it got lost. Should have been a far bigger hit - but I'll take it. Always a pleasure when it randomly plays on the iPod.
It’s just mind blowing that the talent of this band isn’t as popular as a lot of other bands , who don’t even possess even close to their musical abilities?
Totally Awesome! I lived in Tampa and remember many great times partying with the guys at the rockit club! God i miss those days chris oliva and jon were always kool to thier fans and superb musicians and human beings. The Gods are still rockin!
I miss this band so much 🤘 bands like this did not need to play fast to be heavy miss this guys voice too 🤘 and the guitar solos lol wish this band came back so o could see em live lol I'm old enugh now lol
this was the song that got me into savatage. heard it late at night on a college radio station, ran out the next morning and bought 3 cd's looking for it. streets, handful of rain and edge of thorns.
I LOOOOVE SAVATAGE ALWAYS FROM THE VERY START TILL NOW , THIS IS MY FAVE SONG ON THIS ALBUM AND ITS STILL IN MY MASSIVE COLLECTION !!!!, ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF THEIR BEST . THANX AND CHEERS FROM WYOMING , USA 😈💔💋
Im so sad about Chris Olivia. What a brilliant he was! ...I respect him so much as a musician and a great guitar player. He was one of the best guitarist in tihs world. You can easily distinguish his uniqe playing style. All of his solos were filled up strong feelings. His guitar is really speaking. He was so brilliant.
I remember back in the late 1990's I was looking for new rock music to listen to. A friend of mine at the time was huge on Savatage and when I heard Edge of Thorns well I was thrilled my friend had all their cds and live bootleg videos at the time. Now in the era of official DVDS well I need to check Cd Universe for a DVD by them. :) I have most of their remastered cds.
what many people don't know, not that I want to sound like a teacher, is that Savatage was kept alive paradoxically by Criss' death. by the time he passed away Jon had already quit Savatage. and Criss himself wanted to quit the band too. he sent his CV to Poison out of all the bands. Jon reunited with the band and kept it alive in memory of Criss. in the end we got some really nice albums off this Savatage era, especially this live album, Dead Winter Dead and Poets and Madman.
Savatage is- as you may have guessed from my name- the best band of all time. They sound like no other, they evoke imagery and make you feel like no other. Every listening of any one of their songs uncovers subtle nuances that you missed the other times, because you were so enamored by everything else the band puts on the table. Every CD by the boys has something to offer, but the early days with Criss and Jon side by side are pure, unadulterated magic unlike anything else in modern music. \m/
I saw them in a small club in Indianapolis Indiana a month after this record came out. They were spectacular. It was wierd to see them without John however Chris was a great conversationalist and they were all very cordial. Great show at the Backstage club . Great memories. Still have the shirt.
chris caffery and johnny lee middleton have both stated recently that savatage is working on a new album. no word on a release date or supporting tour yet.
savatage was the most underrated band of all time....and why/ coz they were so fucking versatile u couldnt say there this or that....great band that talks in everybody ears....even dogs or birds can feel their music
Great Jon! Although he couldn't sing at that time, he kept kicking ass by playing the keyboards! Besides, the new singer did a great job, while often the substitute is not able to "accomplish the mission" he has been assigned to
i' ve never heard about savatage before, but today i entered in youtube and in "video for you" i see "savatage-damian"... i tought, let's try!!! shit they are great!!!
@TSS1994 its you! savatage 's tone is unique. saying that means you dont know the band. if this is true change it :) savatage is(was) the best power metal band. legend songs. thrilled perfomances!
An offering of reasons (To) put them all in play A covering of treasons That one by one we let slip away A solitary dancer So lost upon her stage I have seen you on the edge of dawn Felt you there before you were born Balanced your dreams upon the edge of thorns But I don't think about you anymore A study made from winter Of summers long ago And dreams that use to glitter Safely now hidden under snow And so we end this chapter And let the stage lights fade I have seen you on the edge of dawn Felt you there before you were born Balanced your dreams upon the edge of thorns But I don't think about you anymore
The vocals are exactly like the one from the original record!!! Amazing!!!!!
Mert Özel Music It's always surreal when that happens. Michael Jackson did it a lot. Rob Halford, who else? I think Dio liked to change it on purpose.
yes, I find lots of metal vocalists do their absolute best on the record and then struggle to achieve the same level live. this guy nails it.
@@nathanshabazz6300 I agree with you..Also Green Day :)
that´s what´s suposed for a good singer mate ;)
En vivo suena mucho mejor!!!!
2000, 2002, 2022, indo pra 2023 e eu não me canso dessa música nunca 🖤
Ouço des de mlk muito bom, lembro que encontrei a banda por aqueles programas de download emule. Solo absurdo.
faça o mesmo em 2024 kkk
This kind of music... makes wanna say... "they dont make it this way anymore"
MItsos Ogdontatessera they don’t make Skiffle, Psychedelic, Disco, Prig or Grunge any more either...what’s your point
Zachary sounds so fucking amazing!!! It's rare to find someone who in real life sounds exactly as they do on an album. Pure fucking talent with his vocals.
exactly
Check out his work with the Tras Siberian Orchestra. Many amazing singers on that list.
you need to listen dogan duru
Suena mucho mejor en vivo!!!
I had the pleasure of knowing Criss and Jon. I went to Dunedin Hish School with them and was in many classes with Criss. I also partied my ass off at the Pit many times while watching them grow into the great musicians they are.
God Bless Criss!
STILL LOVIN THIS IN 2018!!!!!!!😈💔💋
2019!
Me, too in 2019; but, maybe I should find another upload as this one was loaded by someone named "The Clansman"?????? Whatever...
@@trishastargirl Might be a reference to Iron Maiden's song
It's so hard to get this song out of your head once you hear it. His voice is amazing.
Revisiting in 2024 this song that I heard many times in the presence of my late mother...
If it was someone to replace Criss Oliva, it would be Alex Skolnick, that solo it's my answer.
You could see the smile of satisfaction on Jon Oliva;s face right there in fact!
I'm glad it was Alex. He's also crazy talented and could give Criss's guitar playing justice.
yeah Alex is a truly beast at strings, probably the main reason for me to stay with Testament stuff, Chuck is not the best singer into this world XD but hey, they still does a great stuff
Holy shit on the solo... great improv :)
This the era where Alex Skolnick (Testament) filled the shoes of Criss Oliva. Alex cited Criss as a huge influence on him and was thrilled when he got the call from Savatage to join them.
Who is listening in 2024 this masterpiece?
This is up there with the greatest live metal performances of all time. The energy and the professionalism. Unreal.
Zak's vocals are FLAWLESS. How many singers can do that live? I've never heard any other. And Chris Olivia's guitar leads are absolute perfection. One of the best guitar players that ever lived. Gutter Ballet to Edge of Thorns- Those were the golden age of music.
Chris wasnt playing, he already died by this point in time.
It doesn't matter if he was playing or not. His leads were still perfection. He made the sound of the band on his albums.
You were talking about this particular live performance, so yeah, that does matter. You need to give credit where credit is due. Skolnick was playing the leads here and he did a great job. That doesnt take away from Chris' ability or skills or the indelible mark he left.

I have been listening to Savatage since Hall of the Mountain King.. These guys are absolute legends and innovators and it's a shame they never got the credit (or the record sales) they deserved..

They got It.

+Dave Friday "Always a pleasure when it randomly plays on the iPod." That's how you know you've struck gold.
exactly still listen to it till this day
Fuck yeah. Alex Scolnick on guitar duty, Zak with the CoC shirt, and everyone else carrying it on.
20 years ago today, RIP Criss, I miss you
It’s just mind blowing that the talent of this band isn’t as popular as a lot of other bands , who don’t even possess even close to their musical abilities?
Such a perfect sounding voice whether audio or live!
Skolnick is a fucking metal god , I met him back stage at a Testament show, the nicest guy you ever meet!
2019 and still listening
2021 and still listening :)
These guys are so rad. Why is it when I talk about them nobody has heard of them? Severely underrated band.
Incredible. Hail Savatage.
Alex Skolnik, representa muito bem nesse show
I don't even know what this says, but I agree.
Alex Skolnik, Testament guitar player, é um monstro na guitarra!!
Totally Awesome! I lived in Tampa and remember many great times partying with the guys at the rockit club! God i miss those days chris oliva and jon were always kool to thier fans and superb musicians and human beings. The Gods are still rockin!

What a Voice what a band.I miss that kind of power that didnt have to show off they just played.CATER
Savatage used to play a bar called Crossovers in Thonotosassa Florida, and absolutely rocked the local scene. Long live Criss!
Absolutely flipping AWESOME………..metal forever !!!!!!!!! 12-30-22.
It's cool that Wes is going to play bass for Coheed and Cambria for the rest of the tour.

underrated band, edge of thorns is a great album. rest in peace criss oliva.
First listened to Savatage back in 1993/1994 and I have to say that they remain one of my favorite bands to this day.
See how oliva the frontman and the icon of savatage had no problem to stay back on keyboard just for the band good . Big respect ✊
Alex does a fantastic job on this I reckon. But then again, he's a truly brilliant guitar player.

GOD this has to be one of the best performances I've seen on the tube, Savatage Forever!

Whether one prefers the Oliva or Stevens era is a matter of opinion, but its fact that Stevens is the superior singer. not even a competition really.
+AstroKnott Respect to Zach. But nobody's vocals move me like Jon's.
a great alex skolnick on guitar!!!!!!
thumbs up for savatage one of the best band ever!!!!
i seen the SAVATAGE/ DARK ANGEL/ TESTAMENT tour back in the day, who knew Alex would be playing for SAVATAGE. RIP Chris...
i couldn't agree with you more. you are soooo right about that.
Such an underrated band
An offering of reasons
(To) put them all in play
A covering of treasons
That one by one we let slip away
A solitary dancer
So lost upon her stage
I have seen you on the edge of dawn
Felt you there before you were born
Balanced your dreams upon the edge of thorns
But I don't think about you anymore
A study made from winter
Of summers long ago
And dreams that use to glitter
Safely now hidden under snow
And so we end this chapter
And let the stage lights fade
I have seen you on the edge of dawn
Felt you there before you were born
Balanced your dreams upon the edge of thorns
But I don't think about you anymore
We miss you, Savatage! Criss was killed on my birthday (not the year, but the day). How damn unfortunate.
Φοβερό κομμάτι...
yep this song originally came out in late 1993 or early 1994.
you don't hear such a clear voice in a concert anymore..it s recorded as if in studio..savatage +1....

Very underrated. Here is my favourite song.
