Great vid , i am really enjoying this series of vids. Really unique , interesting and especially insightful about GRRM's process , thinking and evolution of ideas / concepts that result in the final product / decision(s) we see in the text. And personally with all due respect to those accusing or being hung up on GRRM being cruel with certain decisions ; this probably isn't the right universe for them. Its a harsh , ruthless universe and GRRM often likes to rip our hearts out and we love him all the more for it lol. I personally like the ruthlessness how any character (especially those we are extra attached to) can any moment be ripped away from us ; often in very harsh circumstances. And in many cases (like the examples mentioned) often for continuity, logistical and / or other narrative reasons anyway.
Hi Elio and Linda ! Completely unrelated but I was wondering. I'm reading a song of ice and fire for the first time this year. Is it better to read crows and then dragon, or both in parallel? Cheers !
If the option is binary -- you'll either read them in order or in parallel, and are unlikely to return to them after a read-through -- then I'd say try the Boiled Leather mash-up reading order suggested by our good friend, Sean T. Collins: boiledleather.tumblr.com/post/25902554148/a-new-readerfriendly-combined-reading-order-for-a But if you are a re-reader, IMO, read it as published, and then try Sean's combination.
4:40 - No offense to anyone, though I'm sure this will offend someone, but this is just not how any good, professional writer thinks. Some fans, in any fandom not just this one, seem to be under this impression that writers just do stuff to be cruel to their characters or something. But that's generally not how professional writers think. Professional writers think in terms of what makes the story better. What will hook you? What will be poetic? What will be meaningful? What will get the audience to react emotionally? How can I keep things consistent in my story? That's how professional writers generally think. Most don't have some vendetta against their own characters.
This rumour came from team green fans who refused the dance ending and just want anyone from the greens line end up on the iron throne as the blacks line did. Now they hope the show erases daenera velaryon and make jaehaera aegon's children mother. I hope the show doesn't do that, especially when it doesn't change anything as its viserys II line that continues the targaryen family tree while from aegon III line come the blackfyres ( which is so funny since those too tried to take the throne 😂😂😂)
