It’s like when you are old, sitting in the quite afternoon sun and almost fall asleep. As you dozing off, you start to think of the youthful time spent with the love of your life whom somehow you lost along the way. You still remember how beautiful she was and how happy the moment was with her, yet you can never find her again.
Gitlis makes this music sound as if it came from all ages, beyond any time. There's love in it, vulnerability, wisdom, joy, and timelessness. You see some people feeling touched. Not because he's an old man, but because he reveals something that not many can reveal. As for that, his age might be helpful, I guess...
Who says this is a sad performance, than i would add, this is exactly what this song needs. Yes, he is 95 in this play, some physiological parts are not maybe in a best shape, but the more extraordinary feeling.. Indescribable
Oh my... I have no idea he's still playing until now. Great recording. More fragile than he was in his prime, but his trademark sound is still there, now only added with a gentleness that could only be gained with age.
I know this isn't the best performance by Ivry Gitlis or the best version of Sicilienne, but this rendition is overloaded with expression and has heart. To me, this is what musical pieces should be, imperfect yet expressive. Missed notes often become identities of certain timeless greats. This is one such performance.
He reminds me so much of my teacher (may he Rest In Peace) he was 93 and playing Bach fugues for me, and repertoire of course but the fact that to that age he would remember every note even though physically he was old is just... amazing and you guys can’t imagine this people’s huge heart and devotion to music to keep doing all at that age
Heart breaking, left me with tears in my eyes. Every emotion in 4minutes. In music there is no GOAT, but Ivry was unique! Rest in peace mr. Gitlis, I love you.
Oh, my.. ❤ Nearly 10 years ago my violin teacher said: "Ah, Ivry Gitlis, that silly old man..." And I answered: "You arrogant young man will NEVER have that feeling and melt in your violin playing like Ivry Gitlis! What a role model!!! As a violinist and at his age!!! I saw him playing J. S. Bach with an arm bandage! He's incredible and wonderful and you will NEVER reach him!!!" Rest easy in Heavenly Peace, dear MASTER!" THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING ❤❤😊😊

Bravo. This guy is like a dinosaur. A living legend, still bringing us the inspiration and beauty that Enescu shared with him. Not that Enescu gets all the credit, but I'm just saying that he was hugely inspired by Enescu :P And he has this in common with Menuhin, who also plays with so much heart, and was also hugely inspired by Enescu.
Even though obviously old men are supposed to die, some subconscious irrational part of my head not just believed but took for granted that Gitlis would always be alive, the last member of the old guard, the generation of Heifetz, Oistrakh, Neveu, Enesco, etc. I was genuinely shocked when he died at the age of 98.
Rest in peace Mr. Gitlis. May you bless the heavens with your wonderful playing from now on.
Is he in that though?
Sir Gitlis is not yet dead sir
@@peyonveerakul5525 unfortunately, yes, he is.

the crying vibrato. i like it and always try to do it

You are 💯 % True😍
Yes, I totally agree !!!
I look for creativity in performances not perfection. Something that tells of their soul.
Beethoven said it best: "To play a wrong note is insignificant; to play without passion is inexcusable."

Beautiful! His violin sounds like himself very much.
The colors and phrasing in his playing transcends music beyond a listening experience

One of my idols, next to Heifetz, Stern or Milstein!
Nobody is playing nowadays with this honesty...sad fact.
Aron Cavassi absolutely agree with you his talent is wonderful!
You should have a look to Alma Deutscher playing her own violin concerto...
This is a different kind of overpowering comparing to Heifetz, I totally agree with you
Rest in peace Gitlis, your music will be remembered forever.
Like Horowitz, perfectly imperfect, and one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard
Harry Ford in fact Ivry says “ I don’t like perfection “ l like with heart ! 👌🏼😊
