One of the biggest problems in leaving an abusive relationship is people won’t believe you because the abuser is charismatic and charming in front of people:

They were investigated by an outside expert called in by the police department.. They were reprimanded because -- as the expert said -- they should have made an arrest and charged someone with abuse.
They should have arrested and charged gabby with abuse because she was the abusive one. That is what the ruling was.

@Ace Ventura Someone having mental issues for any reason does NOT make it ok for someone to abuse them. Brian was the abuser. Brian was SEEN slapping/hitting gabby. WHAT TF DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT? And since YOU are obviously an abusive asshat yourself i am sure you know ALL about how someone like Brian thinks...and how he was always in control of everything gabby said/did and without a doubt he made her FEEL like she HAD to take the blame for everything that caused them to get pulled over. I was in a situation like this with a guy like him. The police arrested me because he had a bite mark on his arm and I had no marks. The bruises on my neck from him strangling me showed up the next day as I sat in my jail cell and no one would listen to me. I bit his arm to get his hands off my neck because I thought I was going to die.
Thankfully in court I explained everything to the judge and he took one look at his criminal record and believed me. I still have that arrest on my record which is extremely embarrassing because I’m sure people have seen it not knowing the full story, but I’m grateful I was arrested looking back because that is what got me out of that relationship with him. I was hysterical just like her when we got pulled over and my ex was calm and collected and charmed the police.

      I did research:
"Domestic violence" or "domestic violence offense" means any criminal offense involving violence or physical harm or threat of violence or physical harm, or any attempt, conspiracy, or solicitation to commit a criminal offense involving violence or physical harm, when committed by one cohabitant against another. "Domestic violence" or "domestic
violence offense" includes commission or attempt to commit.
-Notice it says Commission OR attempt to commit. Cops letting her go for 'lack of bad intentions' is made up. This is ironic, because I've seen a bunch of cop videos lately where they arrest people for nothing. You're recording me illegally parking? So you're loitering. You're not giving your ID? Oh uh...obstruction. Public photography? Oh uh...that's disturbing people so it's illegal. Of course, most cop victims seem to be unattractive males like this dude. But an attractive white gal? If anyone is in an abusive relationship reading this here’s some words of advice. These men are like a ticking time bomb ready to go off. It’ll get worse and worse. You can't change them. Everything will always be your fault. They're famous for apologizing and saying I'll change. They don't change. They’ll stomp on your dreams, isolate yourself from your family and friends, put you down, show jealousy and lower your self esteem to the point that you don’t know who you are anymore. You’re in a dangerous situation; if you fight back physically in any way or verbally attack them they’ll snap and kill you. Don't provoke them any further. Please get out of this abusive situation. Make a getaway plan, move far away 3 or 4 hours if you can, get financial assistance, reach out to people for help, go to a woman’s shelter. Don’t look back and don’t go back.

I can see how they misread this situation badly. I have to imagine the officers feel terrible. Fact is; Brian presented himself as the calm one, where Gabby seemed unglued, BUT they were called via 911 to check out a situation where a man hit a woman. So no matter how calm Brian may have appeared to them they should have realized what they were called for an check into THAT and NOT fall back on the "chicks are crazy" cliche. I’ve been in this situation. Let me just say that if they had asked me that…. I’d have lied. Because to make that statement and to have them not protect me the consequence would have been FAR worse. I’d play his side out of fear of what he’d do if I didn’t. So many victims get shamed for not speaking out…. But when you’re IN IT?? You can’t rely on a “he said she said” interrogation. My abuser was SO smoothe. He could beat me one minute and then greet the neighbor laughing like life was the perfect. Look how they treated them both differently. He was calm and she was upset…. She was clearly affected and stressed….But he was calm collected, laughing even and they took him seriously. Not enough training goes into these types of assessments IMO. When I look at her I honestly see me. So 💔 heartbreaking. I hope her case sheds more light on victims of abuse and that they take situations like this more seriously. I could understand being pulled over for driving over the limit. But there were eye witnesses stating they saw the male hitting her in that parking lot…. I think if their training in these situations was better they’de have been able to see it for the situation it WAS. Or if they had been more aware of victims of abuse. Who knows for sure. My heart goes out to her and her family.
This should be a textbook example of how complicated these situations can be. So future officers can take it more seriously.

It just breaks my heart to see Gabby apologizing profusely and continuing to take the blame trying to take responsibility- this is a key indicator of mental and physical abuse and trauma. Every once in a while you can hear her let something slip, like admitting that Brian was accusing her of being worked up when she said she was perfectly calm. She shouldn’t have to apologize for trying to clean up her workspace. She shouldn’t have to take the blame for Brian’s driving, she shouldn’t have to have died thinking it was all her fault. It can truly be brainwashing to be in a relationship where you are constantly convinced that everything is your fault, and you can see just how traumatized Gabby was from that. Just looking at her body language, how tense and uncomfortable she looked. Clinging to your body like Gabby was doing at first is a very defensive position. Just shows how traumatic the situation was for her.
Watching this footage is eerie especially when you see the footage of Brian. Analyzing him now, he definitely gave off some red flags of being a potential DA suspect. For instance, the way he stepped out of the car and immediately began smiling, laughing, and talking rapidly and excessively. Ab*sers will often do this when trying to cover up their actions, similar to how a toddler will smile and laugh when being punished because they are trying to pretend they didn’t do anything wrong. Not only was he brainwashing Gabby into believing it was all her fault, he did the same for himself. Also, the way he is very quick to blame everything and everyone but himself. The excused and the reasoning he just kept spitting out was hard to watch, just knowing now that everything he said was probably BS. it’s a truly heartbreaking situation, and I feel so sorry for the officers who had to respond to their case. In the moment, they did not have the evidence or motive to take them into custody, the most they could really have done was potentially send in a welfare check later on and give Brian a speeding ticket. Looking back, I’m sure they have a lot of guilt that Gabby would not make it out of this situation alive and they were the only ones who really knew, in the moment, that something was wrong. My heart goes out to everyone gabby loved and everyone who loved Gabby, even over a year later I hope peace is with you knowing Gabby is in a better place ❤

And then they put him on a hotel but leave her to drive alone and perhaps take a shower like woah that seems very great (sarcasm). So apparently, they didn't saw any psychological abuse going on between them two huh? I have a very rational question: if a cop doesn't feel he has the tools to outline domestic abuse, can he make a call to a psychologist or social worker in the station to do a checkup before leaving them to "reunite"? or they(cops) just go along with whatever they think it is? Because it that case it's basically like taking a car to different shops and different mechanics saying it has this or that... I mean, how would the cop safe a life here?

And they'd rather go to jail then admit that they've been beaten by their spouse or significant other. Brian was so good at using his court face that they thought it best to not put either them through the trauma of a court fine and the likes and gave them the option to separate for the evening. To me they obviously didn't and to me Brian killed her that evening and drove around until he found a good place to dump the body which was the Grand Tetons.

Two people reported Gabby and Brian’s domestic dispute. One caller said they saw Brian hit Gabby, and another caller said they saw Gabby hit Brian. All the officers in this video only knew what the latter caller had shared, and that information shaped this entire interaction. They did not at all mention the caller who had seen Brian hit Gabby. How did that happen? Why were they not informed about the other caller? The police need to get it together.

Gabby called her mother from the backseat of the police cruiser. These statements are from the Petito v Moab lawsuit.
      3. Gabby contacted her family to tell them that the couple had been fighting, that Brian had hit her, and that the police had been called. The family immediately responded by beginning to arrange
for Gabby to fly home and to have her van shipped home, to separate her from Brian.
      98. Gabby then called her parents.
      99. On that call, Gabby’s parents demanded that Gabby fly home to get away from Brian, offering to pay for her ride to Salt Lake City and her flight home. But upon learning that the police were involved, Gabby’s parents accepted Gabby’s assurances that she should continue her trip. Gabby’s parents relied to their detriment on the police officers involved to evaluate the situation and intervene as necessary to protect Gabby. But for the officers’ failure to investigate and follow Utah law, Gabby’s parents would have intervened to end the trip and bring Gabby home.

One of the characteristic of narcissism is the excessive jealousy they feel toward others. Narcissist can't tolerate anyone else's good fortune. He is going to hate you for it. He always believed it should be him instead of you. Narcissists think your success might make them look BAD. They may retaliate by raging at you or demeaning you with nasty remarks.
