Oh Dear God, how I miss it. I could have been any one of those people at that time, sitting on the beach eating an ice cream. How fast time flies. I would have been in my early teens by the look of the crowds, the fashions, the shops etc. I will have wandered past those exact same shops and bought Redcar rock, winkles or fish n chips. I will certainly have visited the amusement arcades and/or gift shops. At the end of the day, going back to the station for the return trip to Thornaby.
I remember this period as a small child... it's exactly how I remembered it, this has brought it back memories of playing on the beach with my sister. Awesome thanks to whoever captured this
#Teesidelass Z, I was born in 56 and lived in Marske during the 60’s, watched a few films in the cinema by the seafront, spent a few shillings in the model shop just down from the station. And in my late teens at the Top Deck disco, lovely pint at the Red Lion, those were the days. Now living in Plymouth, I don’t arf miss the beer.
I'm originally from New Marske (1956-1981) just a few miles from Redcar and this is how I remember the seafront, brings back great memories. Not keen on the modern Redcar of today 2024
The saddest part of the video is a the vast majority of the adults have passed away. And the children would be retired or gone. How time goes so fast. It's so sad 😢
I grew up there in the 50's and 60's. It was a great place then, a bouncing seaside resort. How sad the Council etc. let it go, knocking down or letting go anything of interest. It's a pale shadow of the lovely place it was.
Summers were hotter, but no-one used the variable solar output to dictate taxes based on fake man made global warming lies. Look up Grand Solar Minimum to make yourself aware of solar cycles.
The sandy beach was as good as Scarborough then, what happened to the sand? Amazing the roast chickens for sale. The trains from Middlesbrough were jam packed on sunny summer weekends and used to pass through the steelworks along the "Black Path" .
I like this, honest working class folk putting their problems behind them as far as they can to get out with their families and enjoy the sunshine in each others company, when did we loose this ability to appreciate the worthwhile things in life or is it just me getting old and nostalgic.
The Sunscare industry put a stop to a lot of it, and the constant strive by the powers that be to disconnect us from the natural world and to denature us and erase natural human behaviour traits. The assault on the nuclear family system, that is why the country is now in such a sorry state.
This takes me back to our seaside holidays in the late fifties and early sixties. I had forgotten how well turned out everybody was, particularly the women. Another thing which always strikes me when watching these old films is the absence of fatties.
Back then most people had values, respect and good moral standards. Families were mum, dad and the kids. Dad went to work and mum stayed at home bringing the kids up. It worked very well. Discipline in the home and teaching their kids right from wrong. It's so depressing how the UK is today.
Believe it or not them days plus the 80s 90s 2000s era will simply be the best days that you could of wanted to live in maybe early 90s and 2000s id say my self life was good ...now it's abso terrible everything is fucked up
Nostalgia! - its not what it used to be... My Dad had a butchers shop on park avenue, we watched the Beatles first film at the pictures on the sea front

Really nice video, captures the feel of the era perfectly. So sad the UK isn't like this anymore.

Beautiful. Thanks for the upload!
This is wonderful. Thanks for posting.

That ridiculous vertical pier!!!! what an insult.
My Grandad used to own the Boagey and Son shop at 0.35, it’s now a Chinese Takeaway. Use to love coming to Redcar when I was a kid.
Aww I so wish we could go back to simpler times …. ❤
Yep i can name all those streets as i grew up and was schooled in redcar, not many of those shops remaining its a quiet place now.
Amazing footage, all thanks to the man who decided to film it
Anybody notice the clarity of the sky, little haze and few clouds?

Nice footage looks just great
The beach is so much nicer than now

It's just you my friend. Couldn't get people off the beach in a pandemic.
Worldwide Wabbit haha

You can still do that now.
🎉 well done 🎉 good find 🎉
Great film😁😁
Beautiful colora :)
I love this
Amazing footage. That beautiful young blonde woman at the ice cream van (around the 1:04 mark) will be an old woman now!
Or an old man :-(
Everyone is so smartly dressed, even the kids. And not an obese person in sight!
Plenty more smokers about then and smoking is the worse health issue
Not the point Keith. Food has gotten worse, Industialised junk food, and outdoor physical activity is unacceptable or dangerous.

All British people. Mothers were feminine and motherly.
Redcar had gone from one of the biggest tourism places in the world in the victorians and still big then but now it’s a horrible place

Boats on the boating lake. Not that eyesore TunedIn place. Give this seaside town back to the kids for heaven's sake
thankyou for sharing , this is how i remember my childhood , now all our British values are being taken away from us.
If only Redcar beach and promenade could get 10% of this crowd now. 😟😟😟
Oh fuck off.
Where's all the illegal boat people great
