The price… and the wobbliness. When the S9 was announced, I was super excited and thought this was going to be my next monitor. Now that I’ve actually seen it in action and touched it, no thanks. I didn’t think I would, but I’ll probably get the Studio Display for my Mac Mini.
Understandable! If you’re in the Mac ecosystem, it’d just be a natural decision. I do wish the studio display had had at least 2 inputs for a display signal though and the stand options weren’t so expensive. In terms of just the raw display quality, Apple’s still top dawg.
Right now this monitor is -48% off and sits pretty at $836.67 on Amazon. Today is January 1st, 2024. A sale has been going for days now since before New Years.
That’s insane, I didn’t think such an aggressive sale would come up for this monitor. I’d say it’s a great buy at that price point. However, I’d also say that 2024 seems promise some really great monitors from the likes for LG, spectrum one and MSI that you may want to have a look at first before finally pulling the trigger assuming you haven’t made a purchase yet. I haven’t seen any 5k monitor offerings yet but we’d see.
Beats me too. I hear there are DIY ways to remove the matte coating but it’d most definitely void any warranties and does have risks but it’s possible. Something else I’ve noticed about this monitor is how rich the colours are. I had the G80SD oled monitor from Samsung and this s9 has better colours. Sounds like blasphemy but that’s what I saw. Really wish it was glossy
@@seriultgmxif $900 (I just got it half price on Amazon) wasn’t such a risk for me I’d try and rip the anti-glare coating off but since it’s still in the return period I’m just going to get the LG 5K instead even with its reliability issues.
Hello my friend I just came across your channel and not bad at all I really love your work and please make a comparison video I have been looking for a good one for a while now
Thanks for the kind comment, I’m actually working comparison video between the M8 and the S9. There’d also be some references to the Studio display for context. Hopefully you do get the notification when it drops in about a week from now.
I'd get the Studio Display in a heartbeat if it just had multiple inputs. Being able to switch between my work and personal devices on a single 4k or 5k display is huge. If the calibration app on the S9 works and it's in the ballpark of the Studio Display then that's the compromise I may make. It's disappointing that both the Studio Display and the S9 have compromises and, as far as I can tell, there's no such thing as a Thunderbolt 4 switch. Going to have to wait and see what reviewers think of these as they get their hands on them and can test them and do direct comparisons.
100% agreed. Personally, I’d have also liked to see a standard HDMI and Display port. I still generally prefer a 32 inch screen though. Id be reviewing S9 as soon so it’s available and I’ve done thorough testing👍
@derekeadie6230 Sabrent is making a thunderbolt 4 kvm switch/hub. I got it and a Studio display and it works well. One TB4 cable to my personal mac and one to my work laptop (comes with 2 TB4 cables to boot). It's not cheap. It does run very hot though which is concerning. I've had them set up for a couple of weeks now and so far so good (knock on wood). The only downside I have found is I think the USB A ports (USB3.2 Gen 2x1) seem to have some RF noise that confuses the unifying dongle for my logitech mouse and keyboard sometimes. Ironically, I think including a couple of old, low bandwidth USB A ports to avoid this would've helped for just this use case.
A clear example of the mountain giving birth to a mouse and, after all the initial hype, a disappointment. I would probably considered it at half price and even so…☹️
Love your channel and style by the way. Aesthetically pleasing videos that are informative and well under 10 minutes. That's a winning combo...
Thanks a lot, I appreciate you!

Great video, as always.

Just got mine and the matte might be a deal breaker, why wouldn't they make it in glossy too? Otherwise it would be a real competitor with Apple
