    I believe the writers have said that the moment that Miller and Julie touched hands it reverberated back through time, due to the physics bending properties of the protomolecule. This is why Julie had been seeing visions of Miller, even though she hadn't met him yet.

    There's so much poetry to this episode. Julie was once aboard the ship Scopuli, which could be a reference to "Sirenum scopuli", the small islands where there were sirens in Greek Mythology. The Scopuli's beacon lured the crew of the Canterbury at the start of the show, and now a siren that had been on that ship was calling out to Miller... Then, of course, the final encounter between Eros (Greek god of love and sex) and Venus (Roman goddess, whose functions encompassed love, beauty, desire, sex, fertility, prosperity and victory).

    you get the Impression that the Protomolecule has a temporal aspect to it when julie was dying she saw miller with his hat and the bird then miller kept seeing her so in way they were always connected as their connection at the end rippled backwards through time. and the bird was out side miller apartment not julies.

    • @darksfallen
      @darksfallen 4 роки тому +8

      I thought that as well, I've not decided yet, it's either that, or she just was not dead and was sitting there observing everything waiting for more energy/radiation to continue "becoming". I still haven't decided, if it had temporal aspects, I would think it's creators might be in a different situation than they are in right now...

    • @nonman3634

      It was outside both. In S1E7 it was ouside Julie's, right before Miller got Sematimba's message about Anubis-1A on Eros.

    • @alexanderthegreatest1781
      @alexanderthegreatest1781 4 роки тому +3

      darksfallen The evidence seems to lean towards the protomolecule being linked across space and time because Miller makes a point of leaving Semi’s hat on Ceres before going to Eros. Semi even questions where his hat is when freeing Miller from lockup on Eros. Presumably, Julie was able to see Miller with his hat and the bird because it can access your memories once infected and both are infected at some point.
      Further, though perhaps less convincing, evidence that the protomolecule is linked across space-time is the fact that it is referred to in the singular tense as if all of it is the same molecule existing in multiple places and times. This is possibly nonsensical depending on temporal theories of cause and effect. For instance, if you go back in time and kill your younger self, should your older self die too, should you be unable to succeed, should only your younger self die because older you(s) already exist(s) at the time of younger you’s death? Time is a funky concept so that’s why I acknowledge this second theory is iffy at best.

      It's interesting, I never viewed TV-Miller's attitude towards Julie romantic. He seems more like a guy deeply concerned for a girl he respects and admires for her courage and commitment to a cause. That kiss was an intimate gesture of farewell and a closure of his pursuit.

At the beginning Miller was a cop and policed his own kind and he wanted nothing to do with being a belter. Hince the hat and bone density. When became involved with finding Julie and the more he learned about an Eather wanting to help Belters the more he changed. When he left Ceres to find her he left the hat. “If it keeps this course and speed,” Naomi chimed in, “I’d say it was heading toward Venus.”
    “Wow,” said Holden. “That was a joke.”
    “Good joke,” Naomi said.
    ---
    When the end came, it was beautiful.
    In orbit around Venus, Eros came apart like a puzzle box. The giant asteroid split into a dozen chunks, stringing out around the equator of the planet in a long necklace. Then those dozen pieces split into a dozen more, and then a dozen after that, a glittering fractal seed cloud spreading out across the entire surface of the planet, disappearing into the thick cloud layer that usually hid Venus from view.
    “Wow,” Amos said, his voice almost reverent.
    “That was gorgeous,” Naomi said. “Vaguely unsettling, but gorgeous.”
    “They won’t stay there forever,” Holden said.
    Alex tossed off the last of the tequila in his glass, then refilled it from the bottle.
    “What d’ya mean, Cap?” he asked.
    “Well, I’m just guessing. But I doubt the things that built the protomolecule just wanted to store it here. This was part of a bigger plan. We saved the Earth, Mars, the Belt. Question is, what happens now?"

    The crew's toast to Miller with Ganymede Gin gets me no matter how many times I've seen this episode.
    It's very interesting how the Eros environment was prepped for Miller as if he were expected. Also were those visions of Julie actually hallucinations? Mind blowing to consider.

    • @m.bennett
      @m.bennett 4 роки тому +4

      In the scene in s1 ep 9 which shows Julie's story, right at the end, when she's on the bathroom floor, she sees the bird and Miller entering, hears Miller say her name; I think that there's a connection for sure from that point on. If I remember correctly, from that point on he starts to get the visions of her.

    Anderson Dawes told him one day he'd find his way back home and it would welcome him, remember. He found his Belter identity, his love, his mission and purpose. Also remember, right before they found Julie in the Blue Falcon, she saw Miller, wearing a hat, holding her necklace, with the bird. But she never actually met him. Then he kept seeing her. So what's up with that?
    Welcome the the end of book 1 and the beginning of book 2. Strap in. Here comes the juice.

    The are a few loose ends but this beautiful mid season episode felt like a series finale, but the is more unexpected mind blowing awesomeness to come in the future. (I found it funny, that the very place where Miller and his pet nuke comes out from the service corridors is the very arcade from where he failed to find the service corridor when he was hiding with Holden)

    Eros does appear to thumb its nose at virtually every law of motion and most of the laws of thermodynamics. Humans are still limited to communications at the speed of light (which means there is almost a full hour of lag-time between sending a message from Earth to Tycho and getting a response back). Whoever built the protomolecule has sent their equivalent of a quantum computer to Sol System, where humans are still doing the equivalent of knapping flint knives and spears.

  • @TheWaziu

    After I saw this episode, I thought that was definitely not the end of the both of them considering the fact that we still don't know the full capabilities of the protomolecule. Did anyone had that same feeling?

    The Expanse is a good name, isn't it? It's like every step outwards brings on a logarithmically larger set of scary challenges. This thing explodes, rather than unwinds. And yet the human element is all relatable. Let's raise a glass to all the cast too - there's not a bad one among them. Even the minor characters are delivered with conviction and originality.
