I believed it at the time I first watched this DVD ages before any youtube uploads, and I still believe it to this day. Norah Jones... is the greatest singer to ever live. Which is not something that she'd ever claim or seek to lay claim to, but subconsciously when you home run as many covers as she has, how can you "not" be at least ONE of the best?
Bessie was more than just a friend of mine We shared the good times with the bad Now many a year has passed me by I still recall the best thing I ever had I'm just goin' down the road t' see Bessie Oh, see her soon I'm just goin' down the road t' see Bessie Smith When I get there I wonder what she'll do All the crazy things I had to try Well I tried them all and then some But if you're lucky one day you find out Where it is you're really comin' from I'm just goin' down the road t' see Bessie Oh, see her soon I'm just goin' down the road t' see Bessie Smith When I get there I wonder what she'll do Now in my day I've made some foolish moves But back then, I didn't worry 'bout a thing And now again I still wonder to myself Was it her sweet love or the way that she could sing I'm just goin' down the road t' see Bessie Oh, see her soon I'm just goin' down the road t' see Bessie Smith When I get there I wonder what she'll do
I remember hearing nightingales when I was homeless as I wondered and wandered around the city....Our Lady of Los Angeles...... Angel City for one and all....who needs her.
This is from LIVE IN NEW ORLEANS, what a magical DVD that is. I still recall the first time i ever watched that and was flabbergasted by how talented Norah and her band [at the time] was. Oh, for the handsome band, Norah just ain't quite been the same since they parted company. She is still who she is...but they were all such a great group. This song shows that.
Ever heard a voice so beautiful that it just moves you to tears every time you hear it? I cant listen to Norah Jones in public. Too embarassing...uhh for me. Any way fantastic stuff. So much soul in such a tiny body.
This song from the New Orleans live dvd is sublime. I remember getting the dvd in 2003 and had been seeking it for a while, i was so stoked when i got this.
soooo grindz she does it/they do it in A#....what a great key and expression of how they feel the song...wonder who every member of the band is thinking of??...best cover of this song that exists IMHO...also IMHO guitar player pushed for this one...if only for his sweet solo...wish Norita had more solo's on the keys....stop and smell the flowers :) so sweet...
a feat unmatched simplicity of an incredible and contagious and as if this were not enough women on top is beautiful. Perfect. Congratulations on all that talent.
Beautiful tribute to Bessie Smith. Bessie Smith story should of been told a long time ago. Beautiful, powerful women and to think what she accomplished back in the 30's , hard times and everything going against her, "true inspiration".
a feat unmatched simplicity of an incredible and contagious and as if this were not enough women on top is beautiful. Perfect. Congratulations puts all this talent.

Norah Jones live in New Orleans, DVD nice I have beens search for a recording of this song for IPOD or a CD version. But never succeeded. She should have put it in her 2nd or 3rd CD... no brainer.
Well, I love the Band more than any other Band, but Norah's version here is way better than the original. Alas Robbie Robertson is the singer in the original, wish it would have been Rick Danko, Levon Helm or Richard Manuel.

A beautiful woman with a beautiful voice sings a beautiful song about a beautiful blues singer.
It's sad to me how few people in the comments even know who Bessie Smith is. A wonderful woman so forgotten.
+Jimi Warner The empress of the blues in the 1920's 1930's whoa yo c'mon gotta cut people some slack...
I had to look it up to know.

Thank you for the tribute! so many try to claim Legendary Black Musicians songs, style and flow as their own.

I wish I could find The Band's version on You Tube. But this is great, nonetheless.
I know I have been trying for a while
Freddy Lubin search The Band, I found it jus before I found Norah's version
It's on You Tube. I just shared it with friends. The Band Rarities".
Well, I love the Band more than any other Band, but Norah's version here is way better than the original. Alas Robbie Robertson is the singer in the original, wish it would have been Rick Danko, Levon Helm or Richard Manuel.
Danko and Robertson sang this on the Basement tapes. Robbie on the bottom and Rick singing high harmony.
