Another epic game but which was your favourite from Accolade? 😇🕹👌 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= More from 1987: tinyurl.com/1987-C64-GAMES My Top Picks: tinyurl.com/CCGS-BEST-GAMES
I never had this on C64. I had it as part of an Accolade compilation on PC DOS I bought at a car boot sale in the mid 90's (Test Drive, Hardball & Apollo 18. I also bought Jimmy Whites Snooker the same day). I only ever played Test drive and Hardball (Once). Never even tried Apollo. That said, one of the first games I had for C64 was Jupiter Lander on cartridge. Loved that game and still play it to this day.
Ahh the opening sounds on Jupiter Lander really bring me back to when I was a very small boy. Superb game for memories, very simple yet so addictive - that one is also on the channel, 1982 release for the C64 and even earlier on the VIC-20... wow now I feel old 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer I played JL a lot. First 3 games I had were JL International Soccer and Lazarian. I played Lazarian the most. It had 'Ode to Joy' as the sound track and as a kid, I had no idea it was classical music. Few years later Die Hard comes out and as McLane exits the lift and joins the Nakatomi Xmas party, they're playing Ode to Joy. And I was thinking, why are they playing the music to Lazarian? Then Mum explained it was classical music. 🤣🤣
Few of us Brits had 1541's, but I did! So I loved playing all the disk games, and not needing multi-load tapes! And, no one, at the time, thought the 1541 was "slow", compared with C2N anyway! I think this is why, today, I like deep cRPGs, like Cyberpunk 2077, because I like using my brain, not my arcade skills! This is an example of how a really sophisticated disk game taught me to love thinking, rather than waggling a joystick!
The games which made me think are always the ones I remember fondest. Even the simple ones like 'Master Of Magic' are amongst my very favourite games 😇🕹👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer it would be amazing if you could create a playlist of those games as those are the ones I’m trying to find. I grew up with 286, Apple II, and Atari computers and am just getting into C64 now and am looking for those sorts of games unique to the platform. So far I’ve only found a couple games, and am curious what you particularly enjoy.
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer oh I meant other games in this same vein, sorry. Thank you for the reply! I love your systematic approach. I’ve found a few games on your channel so far, like Granny’s Garden.
Shh! You're supposed to pretend that you LOVED the slow loading speed of cassettes because it gave you a chance to listen to great loading music, time to go make a sandwich, etc. At least that's what everyone in most Commodore forums always claims.
It's amazing how immersive these old games could be. A lot I'd say because the presentation makes your brain fill in the gaps. And watching the game on an old crt tv sure helps. I really miss crt for playing retro games. A crystal clear monitor isn't the same thing. Great video as always!
I know what you mean, the pure nostalgia comes when you play these games on a CRT... I haven't had a CRT for years, I should really invest in one though as I've been playing a lot of Amiga games lately and it would be good to get those scanlines back on some of my favourite games to drive home the 'feels' - currently playing through Monkey Island 2 again for the 100th time haha 😇🕹️👌
Accolade brought so many great games for the Commodore 64 and Amiga 😺👍🕹️. Also, i have to admit, that i have never played APOLLO 18 before. It seems absolutely challenging. And the graphics are amazing and inspiring 😺👍🕹️.
Hopefully, with time, more C64 fans will discover the channel and help to share the love... until that point, its just a case of perseverance - but I appreciate the fact you are enjoying the channel 😇🕹️👌
Great review! Never played it myself but clearly a lot of thought and dedication went into it. Accolade sure made some special games with excellent presentation for the C64.
Accolate certainly went 'all in' when it came to simulation games and they seem to have the balance of difficulty just perfect - the problem was always first learning to master the controls, which may put those who are less patient off these types of games 😇🕹️👌
I never played A18 but Project Space Station was my jam for a while on the C64, I played so many missions trying all different budget setups, etc. I did find the infinite money cheat all on my own back in the early 90s, accidentally.
Do you know, I actually never played that game! I know... a rarity for me haha. I'll definitely check that out as I have always been fascinated with space and the cosmos. Awesome, thats my weekend planned 😇🕹️👌
I was lucky enough to have a photocopy of the manual, along with a copy of this game. I expected it to be quite complicated, but it was actually really simple to play. I mean you didn't have to learn anything too complicated, although getting good at the game took practice. I could usually do the entire mission with mistakes. Although I loved a bit of arcade action, these more involved games, like this, Ace of Aces, The Train, Destroyer, and Elite, were some of my favorites.
You're absolutely right, what appears to be at first a really complicated game - is very easy to get to grips with once you know the mechanics. Those other games you mention are also fantastic - I'll be sure to cover those at some point in the future too 😇🕹️👌
I haven't played this one, but I remember tinkering with a game that I think was a shuttle simulator by Activision... and I had no idea what I as doing. LOL Little sim games like this can be fun to play! This looks interesting! I really like that it splits the game into different stages with completely different gameplay... and that it has random hazards that can make one game session different from another. Very unique little game!
Yeah it's out there available on an emulated disk version, well worth playing. Once you learn all the mechanics it's a fantastic ride and adventure! 😇🕹👌
Loved this game but part 3 was brutal - never actually completed it so never actually got to do the moonwalk mission, as it would just skip you to the next section.
Very detailed! I wonder how many 10 year olds had the patience to finish it though? By the way, Apollo had missions planned all the way up to Apollo 20, but they were canceled after Apollo 17. :(
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Sadly, governments today don't see the value in scientific exploration. Hell, many factions of the American government don't even see the value in clean energy research, or vaccine production. :(
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer There have been many setbacks, but the Artemis 2 mission is supposed to do a crewed fly-by of the moon in September of next year and then crewed missions after that. I believe Space-X is also planning a crewed mission to the moon.
C64 had a lots of games where it would basically simulate some control system or a computer. Static screen with some gauges, not much graphically going on, lots of commands from keyboard. Totally opposite to dumb console games, yet very popular in Europe. Sadly, such games are almost non existent these days, with big studios making almost exclusively 3rd person action flicks, and not a lot independent developers wanting to go with this.
I agree... the 'simulation' style games were very much restricted to mouse/keyboard types of controls... so unfortunately have been lost to the multidirectional analogues of the modern console controllers. Mind you, saying that... they've ventured back into this sort of genre in the form of Virtual Reality. I've flown to the moon with a VR game called 'Apollo 11' which was also an amazing experience 😇🕹️👌
Never played this game, looks good. I will have to chase it down. I was actually looking for a particular C64 game, (not this one). I have no idea as to its title. Hoping from the following description, anyone here may know what it is called.... In the game; you are an astronaut. You have to navigate between a space ship , (from memory, I think it is stranded, floating in space) and the moon surface. Using your jetpack thrusters you have to carefully use limited amount of thrust to move left, right, up and down. If you are moving to the left, you will have to turn right, slightly blip your thrusters to slow down/stop. Physics are excellent!! Object of the game; save stranded astronauts from spaceship and one by one bring them to the safety of the moonbase. If anyone knows what this game is titled, I would like to find it again, haven't played this since mid 80's. Thanks in advance Cheers Paul
Sounds like a mixure between Jupiter Lander & Space Taxi! I hope someone can help you with this one as I'm intrigued myself... sounds like a good game! However, this also sounds like a part from Apollo 18 game... or it could be Rocket Roger from Alligata? 😇🕹️👌
I was around 7 when this was released and I was so fascinated with space. Absolutely loved this game as a young kid although it took me a long time to finally reach the moon successfully 😇🕹👌
There are a few dittys I believe but the game itself has no music, only the atmospheric sounds of the rocket boosters and various bleeps and blops from the console 😇🕹️👌
