  • Here’s how I refinished the brake calipers on my LC500! I did wear a 3M Mask during the painting & had proper ventilation in my barn.
I’ve been refinishing my brake calipers on multiple vehicles this exact way for over 10 years. With the proper prep work, primer and paint this can be a very successful way to refinish your calipers.

Did you consider painting the center caps on the rotors? Mine are either dirty and/or rusty so considering painting them too when I refinish my calipers.

Hows the paint holding up? Any powerwashes or break cleaner?

Paint holds up great! Very happy with it so far

Did you actually use it as a 2k paint? You're supposed to use the red cap and puncture the bottom to combine the 2 components then shake it to mix. It's also very toxic and requires a respirator and ventilation while spraying.

Amazing job man. Red looks great with silver. I’m thinking yellow with my silver LC. Can you shoot me a link to the caliper stickers?

Red calipers blah....in all of UA-cam not a single supercharged or twin turbo 1000hp set up. This car could be a monster nobody touches it.

Personally, I think red is the best caliper color…And since it’s my car, that’s what I decided to go with. These cars are very complex, which is probably why people don’t mess with them. There’s also not a following of development because no one messes with them.

@@texas-dx3lc they’re also isn’t a big enough market, not enough people that own these cars like to modify them in that way

Did you want the Lexus logo removed? you could possibly have preserve the lifted white lexus logo, maybe with; tape, beeswax, rubber cement, etc..
If you put this on a lift, do you see painted calipers only on the front side with the back still being the original color?
Did this also cause overspray on the brake pads & rotors… and maybe even the car body?
Bummer the video didn’t show a before & after with the wheels in place.
Was the juice worth the squeeze?

    • @stevensgarage-
      @stevensgarage-  7 місяців тому

Yes, I wanted to remove the original logos it’s way too much work otherwise might as well just replace them
No, I was able to paint the entire caliber all the way around to the back sides, you might be able to see where they mount by the bolts but I would say 90% of the caliper is covered
Everything was taped off, so there was no extra overspray, the rotor gets a little bit of overspray, but it will come right off once you hit the brakes on the first drive
I wanted to show before and after, but I wasn’t finished with the car and I needed to leave it on the jackstands. My latest video shows the final results.

Good stuff. I would only suggest a light tack coat for your first couple of coats of primer. But hey it ain't broke, so don't change it!

I normally do that, this time I just kind of went for it. They turned out great. I’ve experimented all kinds of different ways when painting them on the car, always had good luck.
