    Great to see bird window strike prevention. Should help with a lot of problems with them flying into things.

    Gosh I haven’t visited your channel I bet an almost a year. What an amazing accomplishment you have made so far! 👏👏👏👏
    I’m so happy for you both! I know it’s been a lot of work… But keep on going. In another year it’s going to look even more amazing!
    I really wish I would’ve bought the land you told me about. We finally stamped up cash but it is so hard to find land around there… Especially with it’s own road lol 😹
    Schools almost out… And I might go back and watch all your videos… I have obviously missed so much! Best of luck!
    I haven’t seen your intro in a while. I do hope you’ve updated it. 🤣🥰
    The best of health is wished to you both! 🤎🤍🤎🤍🤎

      Thank you for the kind words! The progress feels very slow from our end, but it is what it is. Just trying to keep the bigger picture in mind.

    Yes, enjoy the view in the chairs. It will help you remember why you are doing this. Pam, if you have the extra wood available you can put together a three-legged tripod to hang your sifting box from, rather than bending your back over the wheelbarrow. With as much of that as you all have coming up, you will find it easier on you. Nice work!

      Thanks, guys! Unfortunately, it is easy to forget why we came out here in the first place if we let the stress of it all get to us too much. Trying to work on that. It is such a beautiful place to be, and we wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Just have to remember to enjoy it!

    For under the windows to fill in. If you've got some plywood you can screw to the studs, you can stuff the cavity with straw coated in clay slip. Then you can unscrew the plywood and let dry. That will give you much better insulation value than the cob/plaster. It's more solid than the bales likely are so it's easy to plaster

      Excellent idea, Matt! Still thinking about options for above the windows. Thanks!

    Great first step on the cobbing . I don’t think it will be too long till you get a cement mixer should be able to mix batches. If you buy the orange cement mixers from Harbor freight, make sure to purchase the extended warranty as they are easily worn out. Have you decided where you are going to put your” truth hole”?

    • @MidlifePrices
      @MidlifePrices  2 роки тому

      Thanks, Erin. We plan to borrow a mixer from some friends, but were just trying to get a feel for the mix to start. We definitely will have a truth window, but haven't decided where to put it yet. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Pam & Brian great to see you guy's back working on the straw bale home. I feel I gotta ask how are your neighbours over at Upside of Downsizing it's been about six months now since they posted a video.

      Thanks so much! I guess Bill and Yvonne decided to stop documenting on UA-cam. We can all understand, as it is a job in itself! They're still knocking it out over there, as far as we know.

      @@MidlifePrices Sure I understand. But one would think if that were the case they would have said. If you see movement then I am reassured all is well.

    Did you already plumb and wiring the house prior to plaster? I cannot locate those videos if you recorded them. Thinking of wiring in conduit at the baseboard and in open roof trusses (no ceiling) /not crazy about wire in plaster walls if alterations were ever required. With only one kitchen/bath wall off the garage - plumbing is pretty simple. What did you guys decide?

    • @MidlifePrices
      @MidlifePrices  Рік тому +1

      We have not done plumbing or wiring yet. A little scary, but we're thinking of doing as much as possible exterior to the walls. Will try to come up with something to make it aesthetically pleasing. I think the wiring won't be a huge deal, but not sure about the plumbing. Just one "wet" wall in the house, so we'll see what we can pull off! 🤞

    • @kathrynhurn6307
      @kathrynhurn6307 Рік тому +1

      @@MidlifePrices my plan, too: one interior wall from garage for both kitchen and bath/wiring inside hollow baseboard around room perimeters so easily accessible for alterations.
