I just bought a TubeMeister Deluxe 40 today and I simply love it. The sound is so good. I especially love the Lead channel and the fact that the Clean channel has got its own EQ. This feature is really nice to have. I also thought about trying out the GrandMeister but I realized that it has got all these features that I don't need. I simply needed an amp that sounds great, is easy to use, has got at least two channels and has got the option of running the signal directly into an audio interface. And that is exactly what the TubeMeister offers.
I use this amp with my metalcore band, and it sounds GREAT in the mix. I’m extremely picky about my tone and I haven’t even looked at another amp since I got this thing.
This is my main amp head. Works and sounds great. I've gotten several positive comments over the years that it sounds killer. I tend to agree with them. I use the midi foot controller with it when I play and this has allowed me to minimize the pedals on my board. I use pedals in the effects loop, and they shine through it. Don't need any overdrive pedals as you can program any level of gain and save it to one of the 128 presets using the footswitch and also the boost as Hunter states. It's a very feature rich amp. Well done H&K. Love from 🇨🇦!
I had the Grandmeister. Had research the hell out of it was sold, and the distortion was way too fizzy for me, not enough clarity. There was a lot of online forums talking about changing the "cheap chinese tubes" to some JJs and it immediately made a difference, but for the initial, cost, I feel it should have come with better tubes. Immediately took it back and got a Friedman Dirty Shirley 20 watt. Never looked back!
BSC is sooo good! The Deluxe versions are supposed to be voiced closer to the TriAmp MK3, so they're supposed to be better? Having said that never tried the originals haha.
Let’s say, hypothetically, for the sake of this argument, if one was to use Hughes & Kettners for lighting in a house, could one also use said amps for power?

I have one, it’s amazing. Not only are the features incredibly practical, the tone is fucking sick. I have not come another app that is so all-round great. Got a Mesa Road King also, the GM40 slays it on all but the heavy rhythm sounds.
I've got the deluxe 36 that came before the 40. And I honestly wouldn't go with anything else these days. The only gripe I have is the redbox. You can't turn it off on the 36, so you have to use inbuilt if you're recording direct. Besides that it's great! It's so intuitive and easy to use
The grandmeister 40 deluxe is awesome. One of the biggest things I love about it is that you can turn the cabinet emulation clean off on the DI out. With the Katana (mk1) you couldn't, and that was a deal breaker for me.
@@benallmark9671 Turning the cabinet emulation clean off means that you can take the output from the amp, run it directly into your audio interface and assign any impulse response (IR) you want. I don't know if you know, but IRs are an audio map made of a real cabinet/speaker combo. That means you can try many free IRs and not be constrained to the one in the unit. Regarding breakup tones, they are awesome. First, they have individual channel volumes you can crank, as well as a master volume you can turn down. However, it is true that you have to turn up the amp enough for the power tubes to show their character, and that is where the power soak (aka attenuator) comes in. You can cut the amp down to 20W, 5w, and 1W and then crank the Master up enough to get that full sound at low volume. Lastly, you can combine these features: Set the amp to 0W (no speaker output at all), run the DI into your audio interface with a good IR, and then change the settings freely on the amp to get the best tone while adjusting the final output volume on your computer (ideally through a good pair of studio monitors for best sound).

@@benallmark9671 My opinion is that the amp still holds it's own against amps released this year. Only a few amps can match it's feature set (although they are becoming more common), and they are generally more expensive. It does have a competant set of effects (reverb, delay, modulation) including a decent built in noise gate. All of the controls have a per-channel memory, so you can set up each channel exactly as you want independently. Tone wise I think it sounds awesome, but that is very subjective. To my ears, it competes well against everything in it's price range, it can be loud as hell, and it is a geniune tube amp from pre-amp to power amp. No modeling, no digital in the main signal chain. I honestly didn't think it would matter to me as much as it has, but with this amp I can finally get the distortion character that I had been trying to find. The clean channel is also lovely, open and full. (I also have a Katana mk1 100W head in the garage, and it is a really good amp and unquestionably the best bang for the buck on the amp market; but if I had to choose only one, I would keep the H&K no doubt.) Finally, it takes pedals really well except for one ... tubescreamer. My guess is something in the amps EQ is already slightly boosting similar frequencies, and every tubescreamer and clone I have tried comes out as quite clangy and harsh. Honestly, it might explain why it isn't more popular that it ought to be, since everyone and their mother owns a tubescreamer and is used to having one in front of their amp. This amp does provide an alternative though, in the form of the Boost button which seems to be EQ'd better to the amp and will absolutely take a crunch setting to rocknroll and the Ultra setting to death metal chug zone. Bottom line: I don't think you will be disappointed, and even if you are or in the future you want to move on to something else, these hold their value really well.

Okay, so I'm looking for a bit of advice from those of you guitarists who are in the loop. I've played in a number of metal bands throughout the late 1980s through the 1990s, then life took over, family, kids, etc... I used to own a 50 watt Marshall JCM800, and couldn't begin to count how many live shows I put that amp through. That same amp head also served as my practice amp. Eventually I had to pawn that amp for money, and have been seriously considering psychological therapy ever since just to find out WTF I was thinking! Anyway, I'm now at 55 years old and embarking on my mid life crisis, and want to get into another band. Either that or go out and get a 19 year old girlfriend, but my wife seems to think getting back into a band might be the better option. However, the only amp I own now is a little Yamaha practice amp, definitely not suitable for anything other than practicing alone and recording. Amps have come a long long way since I've been out of the loop, so I'm looking for some advice as I shop for a new amp head to be able to play live with a band. I'm looking to be able to go from an AC/DC sound to a more modern metal tight low end sound like Five Finger Death Punch, and a few sounds in between. Any advice on such an amp head? Or does such an amp not exist?
Can't tell if that's sarcasm or not, but "Lead" is the name of the independently voiced channel. You don't hear everyone exclusively shredding on the 6505's lead channel either lol

Lol. I know for sure, H&K GrandMeister Deluxe 40 will NOT surpass Mark V. Hahaha. I'm glad I didn't buy it a few years ago. Now that I'm listening again, this just re-confirmed that this GrandMeister is horrible. If you're happy, then I'm glad for you. For me, I'll get your Mark V anytime.
Thinking of changing the tubes for some mesa 6l6 to have a bit more high end and attack and have the mids a bit more scooped but I love the clean and crunch from the EL84s a lot so Im hesitant to make the move.
I don't think the GM is compatible with any other power tubes besides EL84s so I'd definitely double-check before trying to rig up any sort of DIY solution. That's usually one sure-fire way to blow your amp up :/
I'm tossing back and forth between this and the ENGL Ironball SE... I think I like the effects on the ironball better... but I definitely like the look of the Hughes and Kettner better...
@@midwaymonster30 Sweetwater tends to remove pages for items if they are not in stock, and because Sweetwater is one of my main ways to check if an item is still being made I end up getting confused when it's just out of stock. I think that's what happened. Still wish they had a cheaper amp with reverb instead of $1500 and up only.
Does any one know why my clean channel isn’t working? I just got this amp two days ago and for some reason the clean channel is not working, all the other channels are loud but the clean channel I have to crank the gain and main all the way to even hear a tiny little noise. Could it just be the speakers?
(GM40) Do you find that the switching presets can go from a low volume to a terrible super loud volume, I found changing from a clean preset to ultra preset on some banks can blast you to the point I worry about my speaker. This is with master volume 10% setting. Maybe it just my unit but would be nice to hear this is normal.
@@tgchan Yes Thank You - That is what I had to do to prevent getting knock off my chair. ha-ha - Great amp just received a Mesa Boogie V:25 now I'm all set for anything. (I Hope) 😁
I had that problem but it was because the wattage always goes back to 40 if you dont preset it to whatever you want it at after I went back and did so I no longer had that problem
I owned a GM40dx for a while. It was fantastic for ALMOST everything. The problem for me is that I tune absurdly low for all but one of my musical projects, and the Grandmeister does not handle super low tunings very pleasantly. There gate is great, but there is no onboard additional OD, and their boost doesn't work like I was hoping it would. Their boost setting doesn't help a whole lot in terms of serving as a TS substitute for cleaning up the flub, and I've never been pleased with how that thing takes pedals - at any rate, needing to plug in pedals feels like it defeats the purpose of a full-featured programmable amp like the Grandmeister. If H&K ever updates this almost-amazing amp with a sort of Grandmeister 40 Deluxe Deluxe, an includes an onboard switchable OD, then I'm very enthused to buy a new one.
Dude! I hear you so profoundly. I bought one and I think theirs plenty of good sounds, but high gain doesn't do it for me at all. I need more natural overdrive, perhaps another gain stage. For me the Boost sounds so diode. I even changed all the tubes with top of the line Mesa Boogie 12AX7 's, and it didn't help at all. I even went to my local music store and rented 8 overdrive pedals, and attempted to get "ANY" channel to sound high gain, but failed. I love driven tones, but this amp isn't doing it for me. I'm thinking of buying a ToneX and using the Grandmeister's power section to amplify it. What choice do I have?
Thanks so much for the perfect video, really appreciate your insights and knowledge on this topic. Has been racking my brain for weeks now and I think this has helped me set my mind on this AMP.
Having had 2 Hughes and kettner amps, IMO they are good amps, but they are terribly noisy and sometimes the treble, even if you have it all the way off is still very ice picky. They aren't bad amps though. Better for practice
Took me years to figure that it's the presence knob that makes it "icy picky". When you turn it below 9 o'clock it becomes very pleasant. Also very bad combination with V30 speakers, they also make it very ear piercing. When you have fixed these two things it sounds great!
some / most guitars will have thgat part of the strings make nois while playing and it gets into to signal to the amp..once you can hear it, you cant un-hear it. so people put those clamps (and other things) there to kill the vibrations of the strings behind the nut
Serious question, though. Anyone else see the new Mortal Kombat movie? Lol wtf did I just watch...?
Saw the trailer and had no interest
I thought it was just the right amount of bang for my buck. Although they did say a word that rhymes with buck a little much for my taste....

@@fattohead still waiting for the hk head!
Will it take Doom/Stoner/Sludge pedals on the clean channel?
Hol up-
2016 was half a decade ago?

Killer demo track!
I got this amp and Im mixing it with some tones and ir's from my helix and its great.
That's usually one sure-fire way to blow your amp up :/
How was this recorded? Speakers or red box?
I'm tossing back and forth between this and the ENGL Ironball SE... I think I like the effects on the ironball better... but I definitely like the look of the Hughes and Kettner better...
Finally you got the engl or the h&k? I have the same doubt
Wow, them LEDs. Will the Hughes and kettner jack up my electric bill ? lol
I wish they still made this. You have to go pretty far up in H&K's amp lineup now to get something that has reverb.
They still make it though...don't they?
@@midwaymonster30 Sweetwater tends to remove pages for items if they are not in stock, and because Sweetwater is one of my main ways to check if an item is still being made I end up getting confused when it's just out of stock. I think that's what happened. Still wish they had a cheaper amp with reverb instead of $1500 and up only.
Does any one know why my clean channel isn’t working? I just got this amp two days ago and for some reason the clean channel is not working, all the other channels are loud but the clean channel I have to crank the gain and main all the way to even hear a tiny little noise. Could it just be the speakers?
about to get one of these any good presets out there looking for a modern metal Nu-Metal tone

I hope it is, I just bought one!
What was that song you played on the first clean example again? Can't put my finger on it

@@maxmustardman298 thank you my good sir!
(GM40) Do you find that the switching presets can go from a low volume to a
terrible super loud volume, I found changing from a clean preset to ultra preset
on some banks can blast you to the point I worry about my speaker.
This is with master volume 10% setting. Maybe it just my unit but would be nice to hear this is normal.
8 months ago* but... are you aware you can store volume for every single channel & preset? Only master is not savable.
I heard Big Balls/ AC/DC. Cool.
Hell Balls.
Аппарат отличный, качественный, для разных фронтовых работ от Студии или Дома до Концертных работ для расскачки людей в залах.
It's a Warbringer of an amp⚔️
But when are you demoing the white Edwards?! And maybe a compare contrast to the ESP Eclipse, the 2 Gibson's, and the 2 Edwards? Please and thank you!
You mean the white Navigator that I'm using in this video?
@@agufish navigator?! Didn't realize that navigators also use the 3 split diamonds! Yes please post a demo on it!!
If it lights up it's good
Gorgeous German amp!
I still dreaming about it but at the same time I'm so scared to buy one as seems to buy also chances to deal with his problems quite often
Did you play hells bells weird to not get demonetized or just to Pique my ocd ? Lol
She's Got Big Balls and Du Hast? I'm sold👍🏻
The IR’s actually don’t sound bad at all.
Thanks so much for the perfect video, really appreciate your insights and knowledge on this topic.
Has been racking my brain for weeks now and I think this has helped me set my mind on this AMP.
have you run a B A S S through the triamp? How does it sound?
I don't even have one working bass rn lol
Having had 2 Hughes and kettner amps, IMO they are good amps, but they are terribly noisy and sometimes the treble, even if you have it all the way off is still very ice picky. They aren't bad amps though. Better for practice
Took me years to figure that it's the presence knob that makes it "icy picky". When you turn it below 9 o'clock it becomes very pleasant. Also very bad combination with V30 speakers, they also make it very ear piercing. When you have fixed these two things it sounds great!
Hey guys dont kill me im still a noob in guitar world but whats the clip on the headstock called at 1:22 ? Or 2:17
Jimmy clip, it helps with the strings ringing in high gain sounds
@@moyano6197 ty
some / most guitars will have thgat part of the strings make nois while playing and it gets into to signal to the amp..once you can hear it, you cant un-hear it.
so people put those clamps (and other things) there to kill the vibrations of the strings behind the nut
I was recently at the Hollywood bowl with kiss and the opening act Amber wild dropped a solo and the guitar tone quite literally made me moan

It’ll keep your pizza hot. Make sure it’s cooled down before you put it in the carrying case.

Um, did you see Matt Heafy demoing his new prototypes?! Or do you have one already?!?
Just watched it! Bruhhhh the LP Modern heel replacing the Axcess? Noooooo lol
@@agufish I've not played either heel. I remember you video about the modern not being "deep" or "smooth" enough? Axcess that much better?
WTF why did I not know about this amp!?! PRS MT15 can now kiss my ass
