I am a community minded mother, wife, gma. I love this whole idea of creating community and being in fellowship with others. We do have lots of "libraries" and getting the whole not owning stuff concepts. it is no easy task. We've had clothng swaps. What we have that works great is a moms helping moms group and FREE all the way. Also a fantastic group of support for single moms. we do everything from inviting in dieticians, testimonies of recovered souls, and financial. My gdaughter won her first bike with training wheels. We have a bike kitchen in our town that my son got by working some hours. So more of all the ways to create community.

I'm happy i already changed many things so far. From stopping buying unnecessary stuff to buy locally grown fruits/veggies most of the time. I still struggle with cosmetics (i have atopic skin and i already trieds tons of hand made shampoo bars/oils but can't find products that work for me), with growing my own food (i only compost i a public garden what i can't eat, and try to be as creative as possible in the kitchen to get the most of my produce), and my online time (too much time on youtube, but that's a way to educate myself)
Clothes are thrift shopped, food is 90% unpacked and vegetarian, i don't own a car, i switch off any appliance at night and during the day when i'm off to work, i don't want kids ... i feel aligned with my values this way.
Thank you for all those suggestions Rob !

When I was growing up we had a bucket under the sink which caught the drain water from washing hands. We used this to flush the toilet. Also, many people talk about shutting off the water while they brush their teeth, but most don’t consider shutting off the shower while they wash. It’s quite easy - to me both easier and intuitive - to turn it on to get wet, then turn it off to wash, and then rinse. Why would I have water rinsing off the soap while I’m trying to scrub? It’s counterproductive, IMHO, to leave the shower on while I clean myself.

On the topic of not wasting food and composting it instead - I have a compost pile, but when researching composting, it says not to add anything new to the pile once you have the pile established, otherwise it will restart the composting process. If I compost all of my kitchen scraps into the same pile, the pile will never finish composting, correct? What do you do if you don't have enough room to start multiple piles?

Another idea is digging a small hole in your yard or garden and just filling it up with your scraps and topping with removed soil. Really easy and helps nearby plants and earthworms. But I definitely understand bc I have a hard time deciding to stop adding and let it finish breaking down so I can use it. There's also sheet or lasagne composting. But not all of these things are not applicable to the majority of people. Think of it as an ala carte menu. Just pick and choose the things that you think you can do, and leave the rest to somebody else. You've chosen a very specific lifestyle, that frankly does not jive with the majority of people. I don't want to wear the same thing every day, and go around barefoot. If you want to do that, all the best to you.

So the same compostable materials you stand against have been here for millions of years. They haven’t transformed yet what is your response to this.

Hey man I love your frame of thought. But it’s way flawed. Beyond flawed.

So the cattle farmer restricts his cattle too 100 acres rather than 1000? A book to read is “apocolipse never”

If pollutants were here for millions of years then your argument is moot.

The pollution was there before you ever got there in your thinking. And will be there thousands of years beyond you as a person.

Then that means we shouldn't try to make the world a better place? You know if oil goes from oil to plastic, it becomes not compostable. And oil pollutes the seas and earth. The problem is the oil companies instead of focusing on green energy.

If something comes from the earth then it’s from the earth. It’s the earth. It’s your platform right? Oil , tar, boo gas’s , your decomposition. Think about it. I know you have a brain.

All compositions are from the earth. They can’t be a pollution. They are extracted from the earth. Dugh.

So your constructive doesn’t has been fruitless. Because it’s false. Think about it.

This is great! Would love a place for folks to share any additional ideas. People come up with some pretty creative stuff once the inspiration spark is lit. Thanks ❤
