  • A circular outing starting from The Old Dungeon Ghyll to rise from Blea Tarn Pass by Redacre Gill to the summit of Pike O' Blisco. The descent to Red Tarn leads to the Browney Gill footpath falling into Oxendale Beck. Return is made through Stool End Farm and along the valley bottom. Note there are 2 separate summit cairns.
This was a VERY testing walk indeed with the path down Browney Gill particularly difficult. THIS IS A TESTING WALK. The strong winds and clag with odd snow drifts added to the testing nature of the route.
    Fact Sheet
    8km, approx time 4 hours
    700m of ascent and descent.
Start and finish, National Trust car park at The Old Dungeon Ghyll (286061) £8.50 for the day only coins accepted.
    Maps OS L90 or OL6
Difficulty, This is a very strenuous ascent and descent, the path into Oxendale Beck has some difficult areas to negotiate. There are 2 short scrambles required to reach the summit. There would have been spectacular views from the summit but it was full of cloud with high winds when we summited.
    Route.

Really enjoyed this one, Mike. That does look a hell of a hike, though 😮 some superb scenery, which I guess made up for some of the more arduous stages of the walk.

Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed the content, I am getting better, I Think! Yes it's a great part of the lakes and it was tough. Just sad we were robbed of the brilliant views that would have been available if the top hadn't been clagged in so much, they would have been spectacular. I do need to go back in reality to check them out but would do the route the other way around as I said.

Thanks for watching, Tony. I MUST do it again really when weather good as looking at the 3d run through on OS maps there are some top views from the summit by the looks of it but I will do it the other way around. Question if you don't mind, Tony, would I benefit greatly by using a GoPro?

@@therossendalerambler-mikei7294 Sounds like a plan Mike. Personally, I'd say it's a must. I've got links on my video of what I use if you want a look. I's say get a gopro and a foam wind muffler and that will really improve the sound (the raw gopro mic is too sensitive to use outside without). I was thinking about doing a short video on my set up which I think works ok for me as a novice with no real filming knowledge.

@@trekkingwithtony thanks I’ll check the video out. I only you tube when I have time so wondered if it was worth it which is why I asked. I might invest in one.

@@therossendalerambler-mikei7294 Nice one Mike, I'd still say yes as they are very robust so it saves risking a phone which is usually much more expensive, moisture sensitive and fragile.👍
