    15:40 you definitely want your high bay light dimmable. I'm imagining an episode from the office ( I would imagine it was definitely in the UK version but I know it was in the US version ) where you might want to set the mood in your warehouse for that special naping corner on the top shelf behind some boxes.

    It’s quite surprising but Chauvin Arnoux is actually still based in France, albeit with a factory in China as well as in France, Italy and U.S. I’d assumed it was just one of those once famous brand names bought up by China! Good to see Linda especially for the shout outs!

    • @dsesuk
      @dsesuk  11 місяців тому +5

      I appreciate a company that holds on to its heritage - goodness knows big marques such as Philips, Osram and Sylvania have sold out their brands, but CA is still in the Arnoux family. One of the Anoux's themselves visited here the week after our filming. I hope he liked the lighting!

      As Dave says, Chauvin Arnoux is still very much a family owned French business, currently celebrating 130 years in business.

      Yes, it would be good to use their MFT in anger. Aside from it being on Chauvin's UK channel, it might appear in the hands of someone like Jamie Blatant who, as a commercial sparks, would be better placed to put it through its paces and won't mince his words if he doesn't like it!

    Is it usual practice David for high bays to plug in a socket like that

    • @dsesuk
      @dsesuk  11 місяців тому +2

      Not a socket like that no, this being a standard BS1363 arrangement. I don't know who installed that up there or why they didn't go for some kind of quick-release lighting connector, but I guess there's nothing inherently wrong with it. One tends to avoid BS1363 sockets on 6A lighting circuits just in case someone plugs in the toaster and plunges the place into darkness, but that's not going to happen here without some significant effort!

    • @petermichaelgreen
      @petermichaelgreen 10 місяців тому +1

      Plug-in lighting is quite common in the commercial world. It makes maintinance's job easier and safer. They can unplug the light to either make it safe to work on in situ or to remove it completely for repair or replacement. No need to hunt down the breaker, no need to isolate a whole lighting circuit.
      However using a regular 13A socket is not normal. Inaccessible fuses are generally considered undesirable (some might argue if the fuse is blown it means the equipment is faulty, but fuses do blow from time to time for no obvious reason) and so is allowing regular building users to plug stuff into lighting circuits.
      There are various brands of plug-in connector sold specifically for lighting and these seem to be the normal choice in indoor commercial environments. Probablly the best known being the hager klik which also comes in a four pole variant for emergency lighting.
