- Today's Saturday Showcase is a classic Matchbox model, the Routemaster Double Decker Bus. Too heavy to be a basic these days, but still a special model whenever it is released.
In the UK, every large town had it's own bus fleet, and these were usually done out in a particular colour scheme. My town, Ipswich, for many years ran green and cream buses - AEC Regents, a sister of the Routemaster, when I was a kid. London Transport used the Routemaster in the main parts of the city, because, for such a large vehicle, they were very manoeuvrable (look on youtube for them being thrown about on a skidpan, if you don't believe me). Green London buses, were used on routes on the outskirts of London, like places in Essex. This fleet were known as 'Green Line' buses. My paternal grandfather used to drive them.
Very Cool Collection! I’m looking to take one of these basic double decker buses and customize it with Arther Treacher Fish & Chips advertisements.

They made it the year the real bus was retired after almost 50 years of service
the rere stair case on routemasters is a comon feacture exsept for the door version ones i ave a number of odd ones including RTL RTW RML RM on my fleet
When the saw this car it was the best thing ever but as tike goes it old and the paint chipping off the decals stays on really well

Do you have any more info on the gold 60th anniversary toy fair bus? I got this in a group set and finding info about it is proving difficult, how many were made and is it a desired vehicle? Any help would be great 👍

The Routemaster is a London bus, not British.
Designed for London but still British. There were other customers for the Routemaster other than London.
