- Solving math word problems on the ASVAB isn't easy if you don't have a plan. In this video, Anderson goes over the ASVAB and AFQT secrets to solving word problems, and he goes over 2 examples so you can watch, practice, and master word problems!
It doesn't matter if it's the ASVAB, AFQT, SAT, GRE, anything...
Word Problems and life problems follow the same discipline:
1. Identify the problem. What are you ACTUALLY trying to find?
2. Get the keywords and only focus on those keywords. What's the plan?
3. Calculate. Notice how we're calculating at the end? That's because you shouldn't build a house without the blueprint.

Thank you so much. You are so articulate and attentive! You hit it right on the head because I tend to do exactly what you said we shouldn't do and I instantly get bogged down by the numbers. I know how to solve the problem somewhere in the back of my head but it seems too far away to process because I don't initially look for the question they're asking. When I followed along with you though, and went straight to the question, the problem began to make sense and the numbers flowed and so did my plan to solve it. I knew exactly what they were looking for. I get in now so thank you!!! I'll be practicing this technique as much as I can. I've been studying for a little over 6 months for the ASVAB so this just helped me a ton. Thank you so very much again.

I need at least 162 score which is a lot but i want to qualify for a linguist job. Thanks for your videos!
My biggest failures on the practice tests are word knowledge, getting tripped up by opposites on word problems, and I think biology and chemistry are a problem too if I remember correctly. But specifically reguarding math? Probably the ones where it's confusing as to what you're actually doing with the numbers and have to figure out for yourself if you multiply divide add or subtract
Without practice I was able to score a 98 and a 108-112 on all my line scores, I think that is what my recruiter called it (ex the scores for Mechanical knowledge and Electronics information)
I have decided to take the Intelligence Analyst (35F) MOS, I hope I end up enjoying it as much as I think it sounds fun.
The more I learn from you, the more it feels like I'm in high school. This is a good feeling to learn makes me feel happy I guess you can say ^_^

in the first one, you already know 10x8=80 so you can eliminate choices a-c without finishing the math and save yourself another 10 seconds to add solving harder question thanks to the elimination tequnique

If you see numbers are far off for answers, could you just use whole numbers and skip the decimals to speed up the process?

They really be writing unnecessary stuff in the beginning of these words problems I guess to mess us up or distract us. Tricky tricky.

Much easier and faster way if you find the percentage of the nearest 10, 100, 1000’s. Once you find that answer. Multiply by your. It’s just easier to show

So divide or remove a zero at the end and you end up with $750.
$750x5= $3,000
Probably made no sense. The math I’ve created since a kid. Helped shoot through test quick. Finding the shortcuts.
