Every announcer thinks their team's best player is winning MVP lmao. Not saying SOTO doesn't deserve consideration, but that term is overused. Just watched the Braves replay and their announcers were talking about Austin Riley winning the award. Let's be honest, half of these players won't finish within 100 votes of the actual winner.
Soto has a legit shot at it though, especially if this keeps up. He leads the NL in a lot of the rate stats for batting, is among the top for most of the rest of them, and plays serviceable defense. I think it was probably Bryce Harper until this week, and Harper is still putting up ridiculous numbers which are being beaten out by Soto who has a ludicrous .697 obp in the past 7 games.

They help you recover faster which helps limit bad at bats from just fatigue. Also his a big amount of his walks came from pitchers avoiding the strike zone because they were afraid of his illegally enhanced power.

So, he contributed a lot to the team's playoff chances. Soto is on one of the worst teams in baseball, but yea Soto had better stats while O'Neil contributed more to playoff chances for the Cards. It's tough.
