It is like Marilia is leading, and you are fallowing her and her style. I think leading without arm/handcontact works best, when both partner have equal style or desire to be totally 'free' in movement and expression. We all know that Marilia likes to express dance a lot with her body, that's why she looks very dominant in her style mostly, which is perfect for samba no pe for ex. BUT most students, dancers, like the fact to be close and leaded by hands or arms. I mean I got what u want to teach or show us, but you and Marilia are a good showcase to how it doesn't look natural to me. Cause u both have different styles. I don't like to be touched all over, especially the waist region can be uncomfortable some times when the dance partner is too harsh (which is most of the time like that, because they got too far while turning and than they grab the waist to pull us/themselve back) and the music fast. To be completely free, without any lead than the bond between each other need as well same level dancers and dancers who don't feel 'lost', when they 'have' to dance some seconds without any contact. I like that, but I can see as well on the dance floors, that some female fallowers can panic if the leading part goes on distance 'lead'. I do not agree with prof. Marilia, when she says that we need to do more movement's with the body. Forro is not Salsa. It is really disturbing sometimes to see dancers doing too much. When I was saw brazilians dancing forro in brazil, I wondered about how we dance or learned to dance forro here in Europe. In brazil they never danced too seperate and too expressive. I think this style is more adopted from european ballroom dance, or maybe from forro electronico or samba no pe. Out of comfort zone is always good, but it needs sensibility. Don't you agree?
I agree with you that this dance looks "overdone". And it is. 😅🤓 It is an exercise - a challenging one: Marilia was trying to use all the space she had and I was doing my best to suggest movements without restricting her movements. I agree that the result is a different kind of dance relationship, and as a lead I was also a follower. I would not dance like this in a party. I could - maybe - do it for a moment for the fun of it, but not dance a full song, or sequences of songs like this.
I also agree that in Brazil forró is (usually) all about dancing together. It is about the embrace, it is about grooving together, it is about feeling your partner movements with you body. Dances full of turns with a lot of space in between partners, full of extra flares, ornaments and more "individuality" is something seen more often outside Brazil. I remember going back to Brazil and hearing dancer friends joking about it, saying that it is like "remote dancing", "wifi forró", without real forró body connection. I personally like best dances where there is more partner movement and less individual flares. I like the deep body connection. ❤️ But I'm also open to try different approaches for fun! And Marilia is great at this. 🥳
Beautiful!
Thank you!!
Perfeitos, roots 👏👏👏👏😍

Hi Charlotta. I'm impressed with you long form comment full of thoughts! Many things to address here. 🤓
