I know that this is a very hot take, but sunny I think is one of the worst names for a “sandwing” I still think something like phoenix or if they were to continue with the whole sun thing maybe sunset but I think those names could have been better
My ultimate sandwich is white bread with chewy crusts, butter and ham. My local supermarket does a super awesome white bread, and it's got chewy crusts. It goes amazing with just butter itself, but with ham is the ultimate hamwich (Short for ham sandwich)
Wait I see nothing wrong with Pyrite. Gemstone/Mineral names are awesome (as long as they match colors like Ruby is red or Diamond is white or bluish). I mean who doesn't like pretty stones. Pyrite is light gold almost white. Pyrite may not be same color but it's close enough I can give it a pass. Plus as I said it is almost white which shows great transition from gold to white, Sky Wing to Ice Wing since Ice Wing can't be gold and Sky Wing can't be white (I believe). It works.

My favs are Whiteout and Clearsight. I have no idea why, but their names are just so… pleasing. And Clearsight is the PERFECT name for a dragon who can see hundreds of futures. I love it. And then Whiteout just SOUNDS nice, not to mention how pretty Whiteout actually looks. I love them both, but tbh, Clearsight is in first for me. Don’t ask me why.

Whiteouts are a snow blizzard with strong winds, reduced visibility, and snow everywhere! Not to mention the freezing temperature you must get hit with! Deadly! ..But our dear Whiteout is anything but that strong dangerous hazard. She's a scroll-worm with a hopeful outlook despite her family's circumstance. Her content with the life she has unlike Arctic. The opposite of what her father wanted her to be, his idealized Icewing child and last resort for his mother and tribe forgiveness.
There are lots of names with hidden meanings in the series, but I can only remember four. Bookworm boi pointed out that 'Pyrite' is another name for 'fools gold', like how she isn't who she says she is. Sequoia is also a very ancient kind of tree believed to be extinct, only to be found again, endangered but still alive. Orcas are known to be social but psychopathic, and will occasionally kill other orcas children for their own benefit. And finally, this one is probably one less hidden, but anemones live attached to coral!
I had no idea about the Sequoia, Orca, and Anemone ones are just SO creative! It just shows the work Tui put into writing the series--I love details like this.

One thing I might add is that a Wharf is a man-made, pier-like structure used to dock boats ashore Dragons don't use boats So, not only is wharf a bad name, it's also a word that should exist on Pyrrhia
Boats do exist (shown when Fathom and Indigo were running from Albatross and hid near or behind a boat), but it is still a very weird thing to name your dragonet after. It makes no sense for boats to exist except for long-distance traveling, but even then it's a little odd. Dragons can just rest somewhere and continue flying later. Maybe it's for royalty or the very rich, so it's sort of like a way to show how much money you have.
My personal favorite is Chameleon. Naming a Rainwing who can’t change their colors after an animal that is infamous for being able to do just that? That’s some next-level thinking
I feel like Queen Monarch is an underated name, it's based of the monarch butterfly and the definition of monarch means "a sovereighn head of state, especially a king, queen, or emperor."
My personal least favorite is Soar. You can definitely tell that chameleon had no idea what to name him so he just gave up and chose it lol Edit: I have just read legends darkstalker and my new least favourite is MORROWWATCHER LOL LIKE WHAT
If you think about Whiteout's name, its got some interesting implications just like Darkstalker's. Artic tried to erase her personality, and plant a new one of top of it. And whiteout the tool, is used to stamp over that which should be permanent to "fix" it. Yikes. And I have to stress this, becuase it is glorious. (I am not sorry for the pun.) The RainWings were in some ways, a little pathetic until a certain grumpy dragonet of destiny gave them a new shot at building a name for themselves. And what's another common word used to describe something with honor? Also there is the duality of the other DoD think Queen Glory is pretty, but the other RainWings consider her dull. Like how they aren't interested in glory as a concept until Glory makes the challenge.

Idk why but I think it's funny how most dragons in the bad name list are Hivewings. Though I do understand how they could have weird names, since they're mainly named after insects. I personally also think Darkstalker is a cool name, but it's that way with a lot of Nightwings, but there's an Icewing at JMA called Changbai wich I think is a pretty name (they aren't mentioned once I think though, but it's still pretty :) )
One of my favorites is Cinnabar. Cinnabar moths are black and red, and the book mentions how-- if Cinnabar had differently shaped wings and some black scales-- she could pass for a HiveWing. Just a neat detail, I think. Another one is Mistral. It's not a canon name, but I think it sounds like a powerful name for an IceWing. Sounds pretty, too.

The name Earwings sounds so strange, especially when thinking of that insect and that "it enters you ear". Weevil is an actual insect, but it sounds more like "Wee" and "evil" in a word. XD My personal favourite names are Clearsight, Starflight, Snowfall, Moonwatcher, Darkstalker, Lynx, Glacier, Willow, Blue, Luna, Sunny, Foeslayer, Snowfox, Thorn and Scarlet. :D
It's pronounced differently depending on your region, although in the US and Canada it's pronounced key-blee. Tui pronounced it the same way in a Scholastic video promoting the books.
@@Dogloverlikesdoge the official audiobooks say it like “ki-blee” like ki for kick and blee for bee but with an l. I learned how to pronounce his name sooner than I learned how to spell it lol
Arctic is a weird name for a dragon because the Arctic is on Earth, and dragons live on Pyrrhia/whatever planet it’s on, one of the best is Peril (another great name for a Firescales would’ve been Phoenix)
Pheonix is an obvious one. Arctic is also the name of a biome however, so I think it's alright. There were a couple other names that seemed like it should not exsist in the dragon world.
Using your logic, Phoenix as a name would not be better than Arctic because it’s a creature humans thought up in our would, therefore, dragons wouldn’t know about them. Edit: unless the dragons in WoF also have stories about them
Darkstalkers ment that "the dark was his prey" as she says in darkstalker legends. I do believe that means he would chase away the dark, and bring the light. Though that became the opposite, due to his actions, his name turned into he stalks in the dark waiting for his prey.
i love NightWing and SilkWing names, but my least favorite names are Bigtail and Argus. like, poor Bigtail man 😭 and Argus? idk, it’s not as bad as Bigtail, but it definitely wouldn’t be the first thing i’d think of when trying to name a character
"Top for worst names in the series" Scavenger names let us introduce ourselves! Seriously, scavengers aka humans have really goofy names, like imagine being called a Mushroom, you literally named a fungus. If I were Tui I would created for scavengers unique namecalling that is very different from dragon one.
I think somthing cool about Starflight and Fatespeaker is that the first letters in theur two word names are reveresed. SF and FS. It shows their opposingly different personalites and their destiny to be together. Like Starspeaker, what an etheral and prophetic ship name is that!
I love Tsunami’s name. I just like how it rolls off the tongue. That is, once I learnt how to read her name. I spent the entirety of TDP, not knowing how to pronounce her name. Instead I just didn’t try pronouncing it. Thankfully I worked it out in book 2
Morrowseer, Moonwatcher, Clearsight, Starflight, Darkstalker, basically all the main nightwing names Also Qibli is a really interesting word, I have no clue how Tui found out about that niche word but it’s really cool Also Tsunami and Turtle are perfect names for them
One of my favorite names and dragons in wings of fire has to be Qibli I love this name, and I also like Jambu both of these names are very creative in my opinion :D

When I first read moon rising, I liked the name moonwatcher so much that I made a bunch of characters named stuff like skywatcher, seawatcher, stormwatcher, and, of course, moonwatcher^^'
Theory on why animus magic courrupts the caster's soul: In adition to the whole "power courrupts" theame, I think the caster's soul is used as manna, which the spell consumes to power its effects. ... More powerfull effects probly need more energy to work, and therefore must consume the caster's soul faster to power itself. ... Perhalps this soul draining effect can be soffened, if you give the spell somthing else to power itself with, which it will then first destroy that thing as fuel instead of your soul, or consume less of your soul because it's getting some of the energy it needs from the other thing.

Snowfall is SUPER UNDERATED, so is oasis and fathom. Hail strom and icical are great to. Bad ones def splash, pike, and bigtail. Edit: sunset, eagal, mooray, and sundew are pretty good aswell
Personally I always thought that Blister had the worst name of any WoF character. Not only does it sound silly for a dragon to have that name, it also makes you think of her having a lot of injuries or something. When I first read book 1 and Blister appeared, the only thing I could picture was an actual blister XD
i like the sisters names because its like burn sounds just dangerous it sounds like something that could kill you blaze sounds more like something is blazing not your getting injured like it makes her sound bright and dazzling and blister is like it wont kill you immideatly but its uncomfortable to think about having a bunch of blisters on you
About Hazel, she was named that because at the beginning of the book, Tui wrote 'For Hazel.' Without further explanation, so she must have been important enough to Tui that she made a charachter based on her
Ok, I know this isn't one of my favorite or least favorite names, but I found a pattern. All of the Ex-Rainwing Queens(besides Fruitbat) have names that are related to looks or personality(not that Magnificent is Magnificent). For example, Spendor, Grandeur, Magnificent, Dazzling, and then Glory. It's as if Glory was MEANT to be queen because of the pattern in their names. but my favorite names are Clearpool, Fathom, Sora, Umber, Kestrel, Auklet, Ivory, and Cinnabar
When I first saw Qibli's name, I pronounced it with a q, as in "queeblee". Since I found out it's pronounced Keeblee, I nick-named the Sandwing Cinnamon Roll "Keebler", because he has cookie colors. (Now I'm hungry.) Darkstalker is an awesome name. Name is destiny after all. One thing I noticed about my fave Bad Dragon; his parents have straight horns, but his horns are twisted. In other words, what's coming out of his head is twisted. Quite an omen, eh?
Honestly, I feel bad for Chameleon and all of his names. Chameleons are the one lizard that can change scales and he just can't. His NightWing name of Shapeshifter isn't the worst of the worst but . . . i mean . . . Bog. I don't know what was going through his mind when he chose that. It is a good MudWing name but it sounds so goofy. Cirrus sounds like Serious and Soar sounds like Soar. On the other talon, best names! My favourites are Sundew, Sequoia, Cobra Lily, Jewel, Silverspot, Monarch, Onyx, Pyrite, Diamond, Greatness, Glory, Coral, Whiteout, Wren, and Peril. And funny enough, I like the name Scarab. Edit: I also love Battlewinner, Fatespeaker and Belladonna
My favourite name is winter . His name is soooo cool and he is so cool too and he is one of the best characters in arc 2 and my favourite character Like 👍🏻 if u like winter ❄️
None of these bad names stand as bad for me. They are what they are supposed to be, names that fit naming styles of their tribes. Earwig and Weevil are named after bugs and insects like all Hive Wings. Why are they getting the short end while there are stuff like Tse-Tse which is a fly that kills many in Africa. Idk if there is a Hive Wing named Mosquito but it's the same story and I honestly see more of those than Earwigs. Odollam is a tree and Leaf WIngs are named after trees and plants. It's bad because it sounds bad? Well maybe blame someone who made that name up not the dragon. I mean Hawthorn is liked by many but Hawthorn tree (one I know and saw) is weak small shrub with small spines, tiny leaves and red berries. Not very intimidating now. Festoon ha ha sounds funny... but what is Festoon? Well probably few things and since it's a Silk Wing bight be a moth or a butterfly but it is also well fairy lights of sorts. Decorative hanging colorful lights usually seen during Christmas. And as much as Christmas tends to be who doesn't like the look of small colorful lights on the tree or around your house? And pls. If it's spelling and again a name a certain thing has is a problem than don't blame it on the dragon. For Warf I don't have much to stand up for... except the pictures... If you look it up and ignore a weird alien you see a pier from which you look at a pretty lake. Think about it when you hear that name. It might help. Sorry for the rant. I just can't find any bad names in WoF. They are named after things and well not all the things have the prettiest names. I mean there are African Donkeys so a Sand Wing named Donkey can and might exist and that is just how it is. Of course you can say "what mother looks at her baby Sand Wing and thinks Ah yes Donkey" but that is just Tui being the mom and doing that so look at Tui for it. I can see bad names in Warriors and also for Night Wings since from 2 part names funny stuff always pop out but besides that I don't see the bad. Again sorry for the rant... I just hand to throw it out of me.
Ok, so I have a story. Me and my friends like to pretend we have dragons. And since I’m the major wings of fire fan in my friend group, we use wings of fire dragons. And my friend who I’m gonna call Horse because she loves horses I gave horse a nightwing that is 2 years old in dragon years. And guess what Horse named it? Yep DarkStalker. Chills man chills

Odallum’s name is the only name on the worst list I like. It sounds really cute! Also, I named a Warrior Cats oc after Moonwatcher(later Moonstar) and Sunstreak is my favourite on the best list

I personally also think Darkstalker is a cool name, but it's that way with a lot of Nightwings, but there's an Icewing at JMA called Changbai wich I think is a pretty name (they aren't mentioned once I think though, but it's still pretty :) )

Changbai is a mountain in Japan, I think. (sry if that's not correct)
One of my favorites is Cinnabar. Cinnabar moths are black and red, and the book mentions how-- if Cinnabar had differently shaped wings and some black scales-- she could pass for a HiveWing. Just a neat detail, I think.
Another one is Mistral. It's not a canon name, but I think it sounds like a powerful name for an IceWing. Sounds pretty, too.

The name Earwings sounds so strange, especially when thinking of that insect and that "it enters you ear". Weevil is an actual insect, but it sounds more like "Wee" and "evil" in a word. XD
My personal favourite names are Clearsight, Starflight, Snowfall, Moonwatcher, Darkstalker, Lynx, Glacier, Willow, Blue, Luna, Sunny, Foeslayer, Snowfox, Thorn and Scarlet. :D

It's pronounced differently depending on your region, although in the US and Canada it's pronounced key-blee. Tui pronounced it the same way in a Scholastic video promoting the books.

Arctic is a weird name for a dragon because the Arctic is on Earth, and dragons live on Pyrrhia/whatever planet it’s on, one of the best is Peril (another great name for a Firescales would’ve been Phoenix)

Pheonix is an obvious one. Arctic is also the name of a biome however, so I think it's alright. There were a couple other names that seemed like it should not exsist in the dragon world.
Using your logic, Phoenix as a name would not be better than Arctic because it’s a creature humans thought up in our would, therefore, dragons wouldn’t know about them.

Darkstalkers ment that "the dark was his prey" as she says in darkstalker legends.
I do believe that means he would chase away the dark, and bring the light.
Though that became the opposite, due to his actions, his name turned into he stalks in the dark waiting for his prey.
So that means his name is synonymous with Lightbringer? That honestly makes it even worse considering Lucifer is often referred to as Lightbringer.

"Top for worst names in the series"
Scavenger names let us introduce ourselves! Seriously, scavengers aka humans have really goofy names, like imagine being called a Mushroom, you literally named a fungus. If I were Tui I would created for scavengers unique namecalling that is very different from dragon one.
Personally my top 5 favorite names are:

2. Belladonna
3. Starflight
4. Oasis
5. Kestrel

I think somthing cool about Starflight and Fatespeaker is that the first letters in theur two word names are reveresed. SF and FS. It shows their opposingly different personalites and their destiny to be together. Like Starspeaker, what an etheral and prophetic ship name is that!
I love Tsunami’s name. I just like how it rolls off the tongue. That is, once I learnt how to read her name. I spent the entirety of TDP, not knowing how to pronounce her name. Instead I just didn’t try pronouncing it. Thankfully I worked it out in book 2

Also Qibli is a really interesting word, I have no clue how Tui found out about that niche word but it’s really cool

When I first read moon rising, I liked the name moonwatcher so much that I made a bunch of characters named stuff like skywatcher, seawatcher, stormwatcher, and, of course, moonwatcher^^'
Theory on why animus magic courrupts the caster's soul: In adition to the whole "power courrupts" theame, I think the caster's soul is used as manna, which the spell consumes to power its effects.

More powerfull effects probly need more energy to work, and therefore must consume the caster's soul faster to power itself.
...
Perhalps this soul draining effect can be soffened, if you give the spell somthing else to power itself with, which it will then first destroy that thing as fuel instead of your soul, or consume less of your soul because it's getting some of the energy it needs from the other thing.

Snowfall is SUPER UNDERATED, so is oasis and fathom. Hail strom and icical are great to. Bad ones def splash, pike, and bigtail. Edit: sunset, eagal, mooray, and sundew are pretty good aswell

Personally I always thought that Blister had the worst name of any WoF character. Not only does it sound silly for a dragon to have that name, it also makes you think of her having a lot of injuries or something. When I first read book 1 and Blister appeared, the only thing I could picture was an actual blister XD
i like the sisters names because its like burn sounds just dangerous it sounds like something that could kill you blaze sounds more like something is blazing not your getting injured like it makes her sound bright and dazzling and blister is like it wont kill you immideatly but its uncomfortable to think about having a bunch of blisters on you

Ok, I know this isn't one of my favorite or least favorite names, but I found a pattern.
All of the Ex-Rainwing Queens(besides Fruitbat) have names that are related to looks or personality(not that Magnificent is Magnificent). For example, Spendor, Grandeur, Magnificent, Dazzling, and then Glory. It's as if Glory was MEANT to be queen because of the pattern in their names.
but my favorite names are Clearpool, Fathom, Sora, Umber, Kestrel, Auklet, Ivory, and Cinnabar

When I first saw Qibli's name, I pronounced it with a q, as in "queeblee". Since I found out it's pronounced Keeblee, I nick-named the Sandwing Cinnamon Roll "Keebler", because he has cookie colors. (Now I'm hungry.)
Darkstalker is an awesome name. Name is destiny after all. One thing I noticed about my fave Bad Dragon; his parents have straight horns, but his horns are twisted. In other words, what's coming out of his head is twisted. Quite an omen, eh?

Honestly, I feel bad for Chameleon and all of his names. Chameleons are the one lizard that can change scales and he just can't. His NightWing name of Shapeshifter isn't the worst of the worst but . . . i mean . . . Bog. I don't know what was going through his mind when he chose that. It is a good MudWing name but it sounds so goofy. Cirrus sounds like Serious and Soar sounds like Soar.
On the other talon, best names! My favourites are Sundew, Sequoia, Cobra Lily, Jewel, Silverspot, Monarch, Onyx, Pyrite, Diamond, Greatness, Glory, Coral, Whiteout, Wren, and Peril. And funny enough, I like the name Scarab.

None of these bad names stand as bad for me. They are what they are supposed to be, names that fit naming styles of their tribes. Earwig and Weevil are named after bugs and insects like all Hive Wings. Why are they getting the short end while there are stuff like Tse-Tse which is a fly that kills many in Africa. Idk if there is a Hive Wing named Mosquito but it's the same story and I honestly see more of those than Earwigs. Odollam is a tree and Leaf WIngs are named after trees and plants. It's bad because it sounds bad? Well maybe blame someone who made that name up not the dragon. I mean Hawthorn is liked by many but Hawthorn tree (one I know and saw) is weak small shrub with small spines, tiny leaves and red berries. Not very intimidating now. Festoon ha ha sounds funny... but what is Festoon? Well probably few things and since it's a Silk Wing bight be a moth or a butterfly but it is also well fairy lights of sorts. Decorative hanging colorful lights usually seen during Christmas. And as much as Christmas tends to be who doesn't like the look of small colorful lights on the tree or around your house? And pls. If it's spelling and again a name a certain thing has is a problem than don't blame it on the dragon. For Warf I don't have much to stand up for... except the pictures... If you look it up and ignore a weird alien you see a pier from which you look at a pretty lake. Think about it when you hear that name. It might help.
Sorry for the rant. I just can't find any bad names in WoF. They are named after things and well not all the things have the prettiest names. I mean there are African Donkeys so a Sand Wing named Donkey can and might exist and that is just how it is. Of course you can say "what mother looks at her baby Sand Wing and thinks Ah yes Donkey" but that is just Tui being the mom and doing that so look at Tui for it. I can see bad names in Warriors and also for Night Wings since from 2 part names funny stuff always pop out but besides that I don't see the bad. Again sorry for the rant... I just hand to throw it out of me.
