Still love this song 25 years later. This song was playing when me and my hubby were on our first date. I engraved "you were meant for me" into his first wedding band. Then when we had our daughter 10 yrs ago we used Jewel as my daughter's middle name since it held a special meaning in our lives. 🥰
This was my moms favorite song. She sang it all the time. She passed away a few days ago, and I'd give anything to hear her sing it again.
Edit 1 year later: its been a year now since she's passed and this song still has me in tears because all I can think about when I hear it is my beautiful mom, and how much she sang her heart out to it. That's how powerful love is, even when the other person is gone. ♡ Please always cherish your mother's, you only get one.

This song take me back to 2004 when I was just a kid playing with my Scooby-Doo toys on the living floor glancing back and forth to the kitchen watching my mother so beautifully sing this song while washing dishes looking out the window. I never understood until I listen to the words. Those times are gone and only memories live on.
Maybe the most profound lyric in any song of all time, "I'm half alive, but I feel mostly dead".... Geshhhh if you have not felt that exact feeling she is describing I can't really explain it to you then. It captures everything...forever and always a classic 90s hit.

Roughly 25-ish years ago, when I was just a little kid, I lived in a small neighborhood of townhomes. There was a girl down the street that I became good friends with. Her name was Danika. One of the things we used to do was play SNES at her house, some Disney game where I was Mickey and she was Minnie. Whenever we'd do that, she would play this song on repeat, loud enough that it covered the game sound. I used to make her laugh a lot. One day I went to her house, but some random man answered the door. He told me he just moved in and she had moved away. I never saw her again. I also moved away not too long after - same city, new neighborhood. I think we were friends for less than a year, but we were definitely close.
Here I am today, still just a single guy. This song is honestly my strongest memory of her. It has come into my mind many times over the years, but I never knew its name until today. I decided to google the lyrics from the chorus to find it. I always wonder how things would be different now if we could have stayed friends...

CPS almost did same 20 years ago because me and my brother were playing golf in the house (stupid kids lol) and ball hit me in the eye, looked like a black eye. School didn't believe me. Sometimes it's nothing and kids just get hurt because they're being kids.

I honestly never realized how bittersweet this song is. Especially the last verse. And that guitar though. God we need more 90s alternative/acoustic music back. I’m so happy this was my generation of music. I think it came out when I was in Kindergarten in 1994 but I didn’t hear it until 1997.

I have a fiance that committed suicide just a little less than 5 years ago and when I hear this song, I still feel her kisses and hear her voice whisper in my ear. It’s a sad song, but I get more joy from it then I do sadness. In spite of its relatable ness. I have done the healing to where I can enjoy this as the kid version, instead of the adult.
It takes me back to a version of myself I truly love, and admire. Being 9 yrs old, 👂🏼 listening to kiss fm 📻 walking to school by myself. Taking grenades from a tree by my house, eating it on my way back. Allowing my creativity run rapid, and free. The scent of gardenias in my neighbors garden. The warmth of the sun on my skinny legs. The freedom of expression in all that I did. Wearing dark purple tights, pastel multicolored sweater with 3 bears on it. Black boots, white shorts with lime green polka dots, and a firefly shirt underneath my sweater. Hair all over the place...meh! Who am I kidding?! It’s still all over the place....nonetheless It takes me back to that free spirited, creative, fun kid. I’m glad my brain is associating this song to that time in my life. Not the later one that relates.
