World-famous operatic mezzo-soprano JOYCE DiDONATO is bringing her new show, EDEN, to the acoustically perfect Baker-Baum Concert Hall for one night only. It’s the debut of the North American and European tour of this show, a 2023 GRAMMY™ Nominee for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album.

Fusing music, movement, and theater, EDEN is a breathtaking tour de force, with a stunning set, dramatic lighting, and other effects. Accompanied by the chamber orchestra Il Pomo d’Oro under conductor Zefira Valova, DiDonato invites audiences to explore whether we are connecting to the pure essence of our being to create a new EDEN from within and plant seeds of hope for the future. The attached photos give you some idea of what it will look like.
By traveling through four centuries of music-including a new commission by Academy Award-winning composer Rachel Portman-EDEN is a searing and singular experience of hope and connection that celebrates the majesty, might, and mystery of nature. The program of selections ranges from Mahler, Gluck, and Handel to Charles Ives, Aaron Copland, and Portman.
Joining DiDonato on stage will be San Diego’s own Challenger Middle School Choir for a piece entitled “Seeds of Hope.”
    LEARNING AND ENGAGEMENT
Joyce DiDonato’s passionate belief, and the driving force behind EDEN, is that a collective return to our “best selves” is needed to not only address our current climate crisis, but the crisis of heart, as well.
The EDEN tour features an extensive learning and engagement program that connects with teachers and students in every city the tour visits. In San Diego, workshops for the Challenger Middle School students will be led by Elizabeth Tobias. These will be focused on the climate crisis and the environment at the personal level, the family/community level, and at the global level.
