her story was one of the great comeback-stories in music history. She's talked about being out of the industry and just doing general labor type stuff, before she explained to a buddy of hers that she in fact knew Redd Foxx, from their days, working together in different venues, back in the 50s and 60s...the guy worked at a club where Redd Foxx performed in the 70s. He didn't believe Ruth...until one day, Redd came back to the city she was living in, and the friend called Ruth down to the club. She got to the door, and told the guy, to deliver a note to Redd. She was standing at the back entrance, and could see down the hallway as the guy walked to Redd's room. She heard Redd, say "you said WHO wants to see me?"..the guy said 'Ruth Brown'...and Redd said, loudly "WHAT?!!..RUTH BROWN?!...GO GET HER AND BRING HER ASS, TO MY ROOM!".... he asked how she was getting by...she said, however I can..I got mouths to feed...and Redd told her he was leaving that night but would call her very soon to send for her. He was living in California, during the height of Sanford & Son. A week later, he called and told her to pack a bag. And the rest is history. She came out to the West Coast and toured with him for awhile...performing in a bunch of Vegas venues..she started making some money...and her comeback was solidified. RIP, to a true pioneer...she was awesome. And there are a LOT of r&b singers, who owe their careers to her and the path she cleared for them.
Her story is one of the greatest comebacks in music history. After leaving the industry and doing general labor jobs, she reconnected with Redd Foxx, whom she had worked with in the '50s and '60s. He helped her out when he returned to her city, and she eventually toured with him in Vegas, kickstarting her successful comeback. She paved the way for many R&B singers and will be remembered as a true pioneer. RIP.
To the Bad Commentators and Dislikers all y'all ougtha be ashamed of yourselves complaining about Bonnie's Sweet solo and Ruth beautiful dress. I mean if you don't any have nice words or sense of class keep your opinions to yourself.
It's disheartening what some people see, and then make public so their childish opinions can be heard. I see a consummate entertainer with a deep talent who's having the time of her life.
Yes I did she had to be tough but she has Thank me for it She is getting married my niece is going to have her 2 nd baby it's Nice to have Good things going on TY💋👀🖤😊
Arlene - Johnny Wallace and Herb Lance was credited on the original release and not Charles. Don't know why, but his name did appear on the sheet music. And yes, Mr. Singleton was a prolific song writer in the 1950's, many hits written with Rose Marie McCoy
ChrissySnow MusicBoxEntertainment Yes and all of those decorations, along with the color, was just too busy for my eyes. Some older women like tacky things , I guess.
Two genuine legends who love each other. Amazing!

Written by Charles Singleton, a fabulously prolific writer.

Bonnie is God!
Crazy...JESUS is the ONLY GOD! He is Lord. Bonnie is cool and gifted, but that's it.
I love Ruth Brown. She is a wonderful singer. Why is her dress ugly? Why is her wig hard looking? I hope I don't become tacky when I get old.
lol
ChrissySnow MusicBoxEntertainment :-)
I was thinking her dress was a little... pink... lol

Queen_Of_Domination
Queen a whole lot of young people look tacky, it has nothing to do with age! I totally did not come here to judge her outfit.
inappropriate guitar solo - needs sax
