As I sit here listening to this music, the rain falling outside my window, I'm transported to a world that's both familiar and strange. The melancholic melody weaves a tapestry of longing and despair that's both beautiful and haunting. It's as if the music itself is alive, a living, breathing thing that's taken on a life of its own. The synths and pads that drift in and out of the soundscape create an atmosphere that's at once futuristic and timeless, a sound that speaks to something deep within us all. It's the sound of a world that's lost its way, a place where the only constant is the ever-present danger that lurks around every corner. And yet, even as I'm enveloped by the darkness of this world, there's a glimmer of hope that shines through the shadows. For me, this music is a testament to the power of art to transport us to other worlds, to evoke deep emotions and connect us to something beyond ourselves. It's a reminder that even in the midst of the darkest of nights, there's still beauty to be found, still a glimmer of hope that shines through the shadows. So here's to Vangelis, for creating a work of art that captures the very essence of the Blade Runner universe. Your music has touched something deep inside me, and for that, I'm grateful.

INT. A DIMLY-LIT JAZZ BAR - NIGHT John leans against the bar, sipping his whiskey as he listens to the mournful melody of the trumpet. He notices a woman sitting alone at a small table near the stage, lost in the music. JOHN: (leaning towards the woman) I couldn't help but notice how lost you are in that trumpet's blues. Mind if I join you? The woman looks up at John, hesitates for a moment, then smiles and nods. John takes a seat across from her and orders a drink. JOHN: So, what brings you here tonight? Besides the music, I mean. WOMAN: (smiling) The music is enough of a reason, don't you think? JOHN: (smiling back) I suppose it is. But there's something else about this place, something that draws people in. Maybe it's the darkness, the secrecy. WOMAN: Maybe it's the promise of escape. A chance to forget about the troubles of the world, if only for a little while. JOHN: (nodding) That's one way of looking at it. But do we ever really escape? Or do we just delay the inevitable? WOMAN: (smiling again) You're quite the philosopher, aren't you? JOHN: (chuckling) I've been accused of worse. But seriously, don't you ever wonder about the bigger picture? About what's really going on in the world? WOMAN: Of course I do. But sometimes, it's easier to just let go and enjoy the moment. To lose ourselves in the music and forget about everything else. JOHN: (nodding in agreement) You're right. Sometimes, that's all we can do. They sit in comfortable silence for a few moments, lost in the haunting melody of the trumpet. John breaks the silence. JOHN: The feeling that we're living in a world that's slipping away from us, that everything we know is just an illusion. WOMAN: (nodding) It's like we're all searching for something that we can't quite grasp. A sense of purpose, maybe. JOHN: (sighing) I wish it were that simple. But sometimes, it feels like we're all just replicants, going through the motions of life without really understanding why. WOMAN: (leaning towards John) Maybe that's why we come to places like this. To find a connection, a sense of humanity that we're missing in our daily lives. JOHN: (smiling) You're a poet, you know that? WOMAN: (chuckling) They sit in silence once again, lost in their own thoughts as the song comes to a close and the crowd erupts into applause. JOHN: (standing up) Well, it was a pleasure talking to you. Maybe we'll run into each other again someday. WOMAN: (smiling) Maybe we will. John nods, raises his glass to the woman, and walks away into the darkness of the night, his mind filled with the haunting melody of the trumpet.
John steps out of the dimly-lit jazz bar and into the rain, feeling the droplets soak through his coat. But despite the wetness, there's a beautiful feeling in the air that lingers from the music he just heard. He pauses on the sidewalk, taking in the sound of the rain and the distant hum of the city. Suddenly, a voice breaks through his thoughts. VOICE: Beautiful night, isn't it? John turns to see a man standing under an awning, smoking a cigarette. JOHN: (smiling) It is. There's something about the rain that always feels refreshing. VOICE: (nodding) Yeah, it's like the world gets a fresh start. A chance to wash away the dirt and grime of the day. JOHN: (chuckling) I like the way you think. The man takes another drag of his cigarette and offers it to John. VOICE: Want one? JOHN: (shaking his head) No thanks. I quit a while back. VOICE: (respecting John's decision) Fair enough. So what brings you out on a night like this? JOHN: (thinking for a moment) Just needed to clear my head. That music in there... it really got to me. VOICE: (nodding knowingly) Yeah, that trumpet player is something else. He always manages to hit just the right notes. JOHN: (absent-mindedly) It's like he's playing my soul. VOICE: (smiling) I know what you mean. There's a moment of silence as they both listen to the rain. VOICE: Well, I better get going. JOHN: (nodding) Take care. The man nods and disappears into the night. John stands there for a few more moments, lost in his thoughts and the haunting melody of the trumpet that still echoes in his mind. Finally, he takes a deep breath and starts to walk, letting the rain wash away his worries and fears, at least for now.
As John walks through the rain, he passes by streetlights that cast an orange glow on the pavement. He hears the distant sound of cars honking and people talking, but it all feels muted, distant. His mind is still consumed by the music and the man's words. He takes a turn down a quieter street and walks towards a park. The trees provide some shelter from the rain, and he finds a bench to sit on. He stares out at the empty playground, listening to the raindrops patter against the leaves. In the stillness, he realizes how much he needed this moment of solitude. Life had been moving so fast lately, and he hadn't taken the time to slow down and just be. The rain seems to have washed away all his worries, leaving him feeling refreshed and renewed. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a crumpled piece of paper. It's the flyer for the jazz bar, with the name of the trumpet player and the date of his next show. He smiles to himself, knowing that he'll be back there soon. As he gets up from the bench and continues his walk, he realizes that the haunting melody of the trumpet is still echoing in his mind. But this time, it feels like a comfort rather than a haunting. It's a reminder of the beauty that can be found in life, even amidst the chaos and struggles. John walks on, feeling grateful for this moment of clarity and the music that led him to it.
As John walks, he takes in the sights and sounds of the city at night, feeling more alive and connected than he has in a long time. The rain has slowed to a drizzle, and the streetlights cast a warm glow over the wet pavement. Eventually, he reaches his apartment building and makes his way inside. As he rides the elevator up to his floor, he can feel the fatigue setting in from the long day and the emotional weight of his thoughts. Once inside his apartment, John takes off his wet coat and shoes, and heads straight to his bedroom. He climbs into bed, feeling grateful for the peace and quiet of his own space. As he drifts off to sleep, the haunting melody of the trumpet still lingers in his mind, but now it's accompanied by a sense of hope and inspiration. John knows that there will still be challenges ahead, but he feels ready to face them with a renewed sense of purpose and perspective.
Amazing music, intoxicating !!!.... :) Reminds me a lot of my childhood, because (but you probably know it of course !!) actually it is not the "original" version used in the film (the Vangelis original soundtrack, I mean, with synths and 80's vibes) but this superb jazz noir version was the one released as the "original soundtrack" that you could buy everywhere when the movie first came out (I can't exactly remember why the "more real" version took many years to be released, a weird question of rights I think or something like that), and I was soooooo fan of Blade Runner in 1982 (even if I was eight years old !!!) that I spent many saturday afternoons listening to the vinyl with my big bro (a little older than me) !!! When the director's cut was released in 1992, I loved the movie even more, and get used to the "synth more real soundtrack" that was available in CD... But I want to thank you because tonite, it was saturday, and I was alone, and listening with a dim light to this "old jazz version" (that has almost a "Miles Davis" vibe mixed with a Bill Conti cool soundtrack) made me think of memories that are really dear to my heart :)
I have listened to the original soundtrack countless times. When I had to buy the CD once again back in the 90's I realized to my surprise and great pleasure that a new version was released. It was said that the audience was not ready for the original versions when the movie came out. I still love this version and can listen to it countless times. It brings me back to times when all I had was music and it gave me comfort just listening to it. Hearing about Vangelis' death broke my heart. His music will live forever and I really hope he knew how much of a difference he made in our lives. Thank you for posting this
"The rain keeps falling, a steady drizzle that washes away the grime of the city streets, leaving them slick and shining. I find myself walking these streets alone, surrounded by the neon lights that flicker and dance in the darkness. The people around me seem distant and cold, like automatons going through the motions of their daily lives. In this world of artificiality, it's easy to feel disconnected, as if I'm the only real person left in this world. As I walk, I can't help but feel a sense of isolation that's almost overwhelming. The streets are empty, the buildings silent, and the rain seems to muffle even the sound of my own footsteps. It's like I'm in a dream, or maybe a nightmare, where the only reality is the sense of loneliness that permeates every corner of this city. But even in this isolation, I can still feel the pulse of life within me. I can still feel the beating of my own heart, a reminder that I'm still alive in this world of machines. And maybe, just maybe, there's still a chance for me to connect with someone, to find that human connection that's been lost. So I keep on walking, through the rain and the darkness, searching for something that I know may never be found. But even in this hopeless pursuit, there's a glimmer of hope, a faint spark that keeps me going. It's the hope that someday, somewhere, I'll find someone who understands what it means to be truly human, to feel and to love in a world that's lost its way. So I keep walking, my footsteps echoing through empty streets. The rain has stopped, but the air is still heavy with the scent of wet concrete and the sound of distant thunder. For a moment, I pause, gazing up at the sky, searching for some sign of hope. Lost in my own thoughts, the city continues to unfold before me. The lights overhead seem to blur together into a single, pulsing mass, casting strange on the buildings. I wonder if anyone else is out here, walking these empty streets, lost in their own thoughts and feelings of loneliness. The rain starts up again, a soft and gentle patter that seems to match the rhythm of my footsteps. I pull my coat tighter around me, trying to ward off the chill that's crept into my bones. And as I keep on walking, the rain intensifies, drenching me and the city in a downpour that seems to come from all directions. I consider taking shelter in one of the nearby buildings, but the thought of being trapped indoors with my own thoughts is too much to bear. Instead, I keep walking, my feet splashing through puddles as the rain pounds down on me. Then, I suddenly catch sight of a small restaurant tucked away in a corner of the street. The sign reads 'Sakura', and something about the warm glow emanating from the windows and the aroma of Japanese cuisine wafting towards me draws me in. I push open the door and step inside, welcomed by the sound of sizzling tempura, the smell of cooking food, which fills my nostrils, and a sense of comfort. I take a seat at the counter, watching as the chef prepares my food with care and attention to detail. For a moment, I forget the loneliness and isolation of the city outside, lost in the simple pleasure of a warm meal. As I eat, I let my thoughts drift, pondering the meaning of my lonely existence in this world of machines. But for a brief moment, in this small restaurant, surrounded by strangers and the comforting sound of rain, I feel a connection to something greater than myself. And as I finish my meal and step back out into the rain, I carry that feeling with me."
As I read your text, the images of every detail you described were forming in my mind. Combined perfectly in every detail with this melody, which by the way is fantastic! Your narrative looks like a movie and this melody and the soundtrack. I identified myself with everything you described! It seems that you described exactly how I feel on some occasions and especially listening and lulled by this wonderful song... thank you

The 1982 made an impact on my life when it came out. I was 18 years old. I saw it with two friends of mine, and both of them are still in my life.
I get it... having been through lots of confusing times myself. It gets better. Bladerunner classic was my favorite. This is a close second for sure.

INT. A DIMLY-LIT JAZZ BAR - NIGHT
John leans against the bar, sipping his whiskey as he listens to the mournful melody of the trumpet. He notices a woman sitting alone at a small table near the stage, lost in the music.
JOHN:
(leaning towards the woman)
I couldn't help but notice how lost you are in that trumpet's blues. Mind if I join you?
The woman looks up at John, hesitates for a moment, then smiles and nods. John takes a seat across from her and orders a drink.
JOHN:
So, what brings you here tonight? Besides the music, I mean.
WOMAN:
(smiling)
The music is enough of a reason, don't you think?
JOHN:
(smiling back)
I suppose it is. But there's something else about this place, something that draws people in. Maybe it's the darkness, the secrecy.
WOMAN:
Maybe it's the promise of escape. A chance to forget about the troubles of the world, if only for a little while.
JOHN:
(nodding)
That's one way of looking at it. But do we ever really escape? Or do we just delay the inevitable?
WOMAN:
(smiling again)
You're quite the philosopher, aren't you?
JOHN:
(chuckling)
I've been accused of worse. But seriously, don't you ever wonder about the bigger picture? About what's really going on in the world?
WOMAN:
Of course I do. But sometimes, it's easier to just let go and enjoy the moment. To lose ourselves in the music and forget about everything else.
JOHN:
(nodding in agreement)
You're right. Sometimes, that's all we can do.
They sit in comfortable silence for a few moments, lost in the haunting melody of the trumpet. John breaks the silence.
JOHN:
The feeling that we're living in a world that's slipping away from us, that everything we know is just an illusion.
WOMAN:
(nodding)
It's like we're all searching for something that we can't quite grasp. A sense of purpose, maybe.
JOHN:
(sighing)
I wish it were that simple. But sometimes, it feels like we're all just replicants, going through the motions of life without really understanding why.
WOMAN:
(leaning towards John)
Maybe that's why we come to places like this. To find a connection, a sense of humanity that we're missing in our daily lives.
JOHN:
(smiling)
You're a poet, you know that?
WOMAN:
(chuckling)
They sit in silence once again, lost in their own thoughts as the song comes to a close and the crowd erupts into applause.
JOHN:
(standing up)
Well, it was a pleasure talking to you. Maybe we'll run into each other again someday.
WOMAN:
(smiling)
Maybe we will.
VOICE:
Beautiful night, isn't it?
John turns to see a man standing under an awning, smoking a cigarette.
JOHN:
(smiling)
It is. There's something about the rain that always feels refreshing.
VOICE:
(nodding)
Yeah, it's like the world gets a fresh start. A chance to wash away the dirt and grime of the day.
JOHN:
(chuckling)
I like the way you think.
The man takes another drag of his cigarette and offers it to John.
VOICE:
Want one?
JOHN:
(shaking his head)
No thanks. I quit a while back.
VOICE:
(respecting John's decision)
Fair enough. So what brings you out on a night like this?
JOHN:
(thinking for a moment)
Just needed to clear my head. That music in there... it really got to me.
VOICE:
(nodding knowingly)
Yeah, that trumpet player is something else. He always manages to hit just the right notes.
JOHN:
(absent-mindedly)
It's like he's playing my soul.
VOICE:
(smiling)
I know what you mean.
There's a moment of silence as they both listen to the rain.
VOICE:
Well, I better get going.
JOHN:
(nodding)
Take care.
One of my top 5 ⚄ movies. I have the ten yr anniversary edition on VHS 📼 I watch it now and then.
Especially on those rainy nights.
Poetic, thoughtful, expressive ! Enjoyed your commentary ! Yes, Miles Davis comes to mind immediately
@@jjiacobucci Thanks !!! :)
Thank you for posting this
@@thomaskoslowski167 You're more than welcome, amigo, and thank you for your comment :)
Woah that hit real hard at 0:15. Was expecting just a chill ambience. A good surprise though.
Looking out my window late at night at a sparkling Stockholm cityscape, grateful that I exist.
I, like millions, loved this movie, but I always wonder, what is it about this film that grabs people so deeply?
Best soundtrack piece in the whole movie history. Just perfect.
very under-appreciated piece by Vangelis.... if I was forced to pick one song for a lifetime it would be this one

It seems that you described exactly how I feel on some occasions and especially listening and lulled by this wonderful song... thank you
