    I was hoping there'd be a post-show episode like this. This has been a great series! I can guarantee Starlords wouldn't really be my cup of tea as a game, but watching it get designed and built has been very enjoyable.

    Another game idea for that setup is a micromachines style of racing game. Top down view, one button to gas and the other to break. Could be really cool.

    - OLED display
    - tempered etched top glass
    - weighted metal alum real arcade spinners instead of pots
    - dimmed led panels during gameplay
    - eliminate paddle ghosting trail effect
    - undercab lighting
    ....and you’ve got a very sellable winner of a game that should be in arcades and personal collections everywhere. Fantastic job. Love it. What’s the name and logo for your new arcade game company / brand? ;)
    You could join the greats: Bally, Midway, Atari, Nintendo, Williams, Stern, Gottlieb. Savage? Adams?

      an oled display would be great but probably not the cheapest, i think that ips would be right there in the middle between price and looks, some lcd screens invert the colors depending on the viewing angle

      @alpha_ray_burst 5 років тому

      I mean seriously. No reason not to build a few of these. Calculate how much it costs you (parts AND labour), then just charge people 3x that amount.
      They will pay.

    • @zer0b0t
      @zer0b0t 5 років тому

      @@alpha_ray_burst And with coins the machine will pay itself eventually

      The biggest Issue with OLED screens is that they badly burn-in and also the colours shift as it ages. Arcades machines are left on for hours on end so you will likely find the screen will be failing within a few months and be unusable after a year. I have seen OLEDs used in equipment that is left on 24/7 and all the screens had to be replaced with LCDs after the first year. If the machine is for personal use it may be fine but in a commercial environment, the technology isn't quite there yet.

      Adam Kendall you’re right, these things would not be expensive to mass produce or build at all. There’d be some good margin in them and they could still be reasonably priced which would be attractive to business and personal buyers alike.
      I think what would make it more attractive and useable for the huge real estate footprint it takes up is if it had more buttons and controls on it per player so it could run multiple new unique multiplayer games in that same 6 person cab. They’re going to have to develop some more games for it....

    Great work here, not just the arcade game but the series itself. Didn't think it was possible to beat the King Arthur armour build but I enjoyed this series even more. Feel a little guilty that I can't stretch to a subscription at the moment but honestly, I would watch TV more if there were shows of this quality.

    I'd check for light reflections (also with fingerprints) before putting a glass pane above the LEDs or you can put the glass in the bottom almost touching the screen, I think that having that "hole" adds to the epicness of this arcade machine.

    That cabinet/ set up would also support a demo derby or a racing game. You already have a steering wheel and a 'go' button.

    I have a suggestion for another type of game for that cabinet! A top-down demolition derby game, where the paddle controls the direction your car goes, and the button is like a turbo button, otherwise everybody's moving ALL the time and the object is to just bash your opponents until their cars won't run anymore!

    You could add a "king of the hill" playtype to accommodate queue wait time. As soon as one player is eliminated... they leave and a new player can insert quarter to join. The remaining players can get buffs or point boosts.

    Hey if you guys made up a bunch of little bluetooth touchscreen interfaces with wireless chargers, you could have this thing deal poker too! Digital poker perks like a computer counting your chips and dealing the cards cleanly while being able to pokerface at your friends and drink beers would be amazing.
