My friend John had Higshchool classes with Johnny Thunders. He said Johnny was quiet sat in the back of the class. He got me interested in listening to The Dolls and stuff. He told me about how awesome the music scene was in the 70s in New York. It's awesome to be able to see footage like this. Thanks for sharing nanchanger.

In my opinion, there were times when it was almost painful to watch him. There were other times when you couldn't believe a performer THAT capable wasn't much more widely noticed. Either way, the music world improved a bit due to Johnny Thunders and its a poorer place without him.

I have to feel the same way. Turn up some nights and you'd wish he'd just spontaneously combust, other nights like those of Wardour Street and it was a different world. Look at all the imitators that followed. A true original guitar voice.

I listen to a lot of different music, and one thing I appreciate is a genuine artist, someone who is always themselves and aren't trying to mimic anyone and aren't caught up in the accepted style or idioms. There are very few artists who fit this definition, among them I would rank people like Hendrix, Django, Louis Armstrong, and some of the great actors like Jack Nicholson or Bogart. Great artists create genre. Johnny Thunders definitely ranks among one of the coolest and most original artists of all time in my book. I have lost friends to addictions and it is a shame, I am one of the lucky ones who never tried heroin. But I can't place blame on people for how they lived their lives. All you can do is try to help them. Don't desert a friend because they are fucking up! That is worse than ratting someone out! Love and miss Johnny Thunders!
