As a Frenchwoman, I find the excerpts from "Mona et moi" both hilarious and touching. Johnny Thunders is unique. Love and respect for the man and the music. LAMF
My friend John had Higshchool classes with Johnny Thunders. He said Johnny was quiet sat in the back of the class. He got me interested in listening to The Dolls and stuff. He told me about how awesome the music scene was in the 70s in New York. It's awesome to be able to see footage like this. Thanks for sharing nanchanger.
In my opinion, there were times when it was almost painful to watch him. There were other times when you couldn't believe a performer THAT capable wasn't much more widely noticed. Either way, the music world improved a bit due to Johnny Thunders and its a poorer place without him.
I have to feel the same way. Turn up some nights and you'd wish he'd just spontaneously combust, other nights like those of Wardour Street and it was a different world. Look at all the imitators that followed. A true original guitar voice.
Johnny was a true pioneer and one of a kind. All the haters just dont get it and prefer there hero's all sanitized and clean with no mistakes. Life is full of mistakes , I think they made him that much more real!
Let's not forget that guns n roses brought thunders to a wider audience by coverin you can put your arms around a memory, needless to say I no longer listen to guns n roses but I am here listening to Johnny.
Been listening to Johnny thunder since I was 14/15 years old way back in the new York dolls days, and am happy to say that guns and roses had absolutely nothing to do with me nor a lot of us... but I guess you gotta start somewhere. By the way am 65 years old now so been a fan for a while now.
Positively delicious ! I especially enjoyed the *Mona* *et* *Moi* clip ; priceless ! Wish that I was old enough to have been at one -or more- of *The* *Heartbreakers* shows , but since I'm only 46 ... Long live *Thunders* and *Nolan* !
The One & Only Mister Jhonny thunders, when I was a teenager I dreamt we were friends and so, I just love the way he plays guitar, his songs, his voice ... For me , THE GREATEST.
how can you insult genius? All of the greats throughout history were maligned and misunderstood...Johnny was one of them. Only a fool will dismiss greatness...Thanks for fighting his corner
I listen to a lot of different music, and one thing I appreciate is a genuine artist, someone who is always themselves and aren't trying to mimic anyone and aren't caught up in the accepted style or idioms. There are very few artists who fit this definition, among them I would rank people like Hendrix, Django, Louis Armstrong, and some of the great actors like Jack Nicholson or Bogart. Great artists create genre. Johnny Thunders definitely ranks among one of the coolest and most original artists of all time in my book. I have lost friends to addictions and it is a shame, I am one of the lucky ones who never tried heroin. But I can't place blame on people for how they lived their lives. All you can do is try to help them. Don't desert a friend because they are fucking up! That is worse than ratting someone out! Love and miss Johnny Thunders!
vegetasrevenge So well said. Not too many musicians can take a mass produced product (instrument) and get such a distinctive sound, such as Johnny did. As soon as you hear that sound there is no doubt who is playing the guitar.
I love Johnny! My mom found a Johnny Thunders record in my vinyl stash and flipped, she loved Johnny and grew up with the guy, I would have never guessed.
Going to documentary screening tonight at Euclid Record Store here in New Orleans in the 25th year after his death. 'Looking for Johnny' will be bittersweet for a lot of us.
Thank you for posting these videos; JT is by far my favorite musician and it's always good to find others out there who appreciate his genius. (Thanks for giving my husband and I a laugh by using "doucholas" in the info. as well!) Rest in peace, Johnny...
this dude could play the guitar deaf dumb and blind let alone stoned out on smack or methadone. chinese rocks & he tore the shit out of "the ventures" surf music classic "pipeline" is proof of that...a great voice, too. he sounds a bit like neil young. he needs more respect.
Johnny Thunders 34 CD discography torrents exist though of course I would never suggest anyone download and not forget to seed. Not mine, but totally worth downloading which of course I didn't.
Lots of tension on stage, no? They know he's fucked and might screw up any minute. But he's good enough to hold it together in spite of. He was the real star of the New York punk scene.
erm, no, and no he isn't, and no they weren't, he always was WAY more than "good enough" and held it all together, "in spite of" what? And no, he was NEVER a "punk."
Believe it or not he wasn't on 💉 for this show. He was a drunk on vodka for this because the dealer didn't show up. What's not known much about Thunders is not only was a a junkie he was a really bad alcoholic as well. He was a major pothead too.
@@bloppysloppy2283 thanks for reminding everyone that more than half the people on Y/T that click on Mister Johnny Thunders videos do it for many different reasons, none of which are music...

did I spell it wrong I am confused by your comment Nanchanger?
Adam Rayfield Just not sure on what the "mistakes" were referenced by you...

he gave, I guess.

She's pretentious...

Yes All, The Original LAMF Lineup...
Jerry Nolan is dead since 1992
We know that...
@@PeterVonRock OP is referring to the reunion in the mid eighties
Was that Jerry Nolan sitting with the girl in the beginning? Like at 1.08 or close to that?
YES
Thank you. he was sure a cutie. hope he is RIPing away!!!
Anyone know the make of acoustic guitar he's playing?
Ovation?
Rabbit In Red # 7 Yeah, and even this he seems to attack in his own inimitable style.
What is that song at 26:55 ?
Doesn't sound like anything he ever recorded, but it goes into Diary Of A Lover...
Yea, I know but i thought that this is a cover of a song that someone knows
I wanted so badly to be a hero. But I have no idea...
I suspect he may have just been freestyling off the top of his head...
