How To Change LED Color of a Mouse
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 лют 2017
- In this video I'm trying to change LED in a computer mouse for different color. The cheap mouse doesn't work well on shiny surfaces with the original red LED, but it works much better with white and especially blue and green. On the other hand, infrared (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) LEDs are apparently not a good idea.

Man, you are the king! (your tip about changing the LED from RED to Green/other)
I had the hardest of times with that mouse.
Thanks and keep it up.
You should take into account for the type of light sensor used. It would be ideal to match to color or light wavelength of the LED with the color or light wavelength that the light sensor was designed for. When your goal is to make dirt cheap products, however, the parts used are not always the ideal parts that should be used. The Chinese are good at engineering products to be as inexpensive as possible. I probably would not be able to afford anything if they did not do that. At bottom of Chinese quality, they often cut too many corners making a product completely useless, but that is not an across the board standard for Chinese products. Most likely, the greatest innovation done today is in Chinese products. There is an explosion in Chinese product development. It's not all good, but when it is good it is absolutely amazing.
What about color changing LEDs?
Bartosz Olszewski it might work.
OMG YES! Pls someone try this
HaLuNkE ST0NER Just put the infrared LED Instead of red, and put RGB in some another place of mouse.
Not quite sure if the quality may change while colors are changet
@@protoyes995imagine dpi changes with every color.
Super cool dude i didn't know you could change the color of those leds
my cheap LED mouse's lights hurt my eyes so bad, this video helped me remove it! thanks
A shorter wavelength LED will work better than the longer wavelength. The UV one would have issues because the photo unit that has to use the light source for detecting surface movement is probably not very sensitive to UV. The manufactures are using the red LED because red LEDs are low in cost to manufacture and purchase compared to the other colours. If they can save a number of cents for every mouse they make, it adds up to a lot of money when manufacturing many thousands of mouse units.
The photo unit in the mouse works something like a very simple type of camera. It sees the focused pattern on the surface in fine detail. Change of the image position on the surface of the CCD chip unit in the photo unit generates the X and Y pulse stream to detect direction of movement and velocity of the moment.
Thanks! This is just what I needed!
Very nice idea. Thanks for that. I know some people that would love to have a blue or green optical mouse.
I was always curious, what the shorter wavelength LED affects precision of the mouse, what about 405nm laser diode from BD drive? :D
Rafał Rdzanek lol me too
They look good with green/blue, very plesent :-D
I had a hilka soldering gun like yours, heavy transformer, solid as a rock.
The only problem is new tips, i found them hard to get locally, no internet in those days.
Radio shack/tandy used to sell a smaller version of gun, but they had a habit of melting LOL :-D
Any piece of a wire can be used as a tip for this soldering gun. That's the easiest thing to get :).
+zx8401ztv Try to see how they make tips and electroplate them.
I ain't sure but it was 2 or 3 layers , copper & tin
copper eplating ain't a thing, just get a solution of copper acetate or copper sulfate. See UA-cam on copper electroplating.
You can do your own copper acetate. I think one of the methods is to clean(with acetone[plain nail polish remover] or alcohol) a copper piece(sheet...etc.) and then drop it in a jar with white vinegar then make something bubble on it like the air bubbler for a fish tank. Cause copper needs oxigen to react with acetic acid(vinegar) otherwise it does nothing, the solution then turns blue. then you use alligator clamps or clothes pins to hold the tip[clean it well] to - pole and some clean copper piece maybe a pipe or something to + tip, apply 3~5v 1amp DC voltage from a battery or power supply.
[check polarity of source/target in eplating, I forgot ;D]
I am not sure about tin e-plating though, research it.
Watch electroplating vids and read instructables, you will get it.
Good luck
Thanks i have changed it with a blue led it works fine.
Yay! My favourite color won! :D
tried to do this, broke the mouse, fixed the mouse again, now it works and it has a white led. thanks!
Noice
my white LED won't turn on. When I purchase the white LED, it was tested using LED light test tool and lights up. I tried to put original red LED and it light up and works normally (so it's definitely not the PCB). I test the white LED using another LED place (on the same PCB) and it lights up. In short, my mouse won't work if it's not using the original red LED at the LED for optical sensor. Any help/suggestion?
@@noobricerdid you make sure you got the polarity of the led? Or is your led infread?
@@VOLTRONDEFENDER4440 i found out that this video is not accurate. Infrared LED and regular led is different. My white is regular LED, while the original red LED is infrared :(
@@noobricer oh but did you make sure your polarity with the led is correct?
Could it be that the blue led has the highest voltage drop, so it draws less current and doesn't oversaturate the sensor with light?
What kind of led is the blue one? I'm interested in trying this
Nice video ,thank you so much
Ooooh! Your tin of LEDs..... Niiice!
And if you put RGB led which slowly changes color ?
I make one with green led and it work perfectly fine :D
helo, is it still working good until now? its already 3 years now btw.. and what type do u have ? im still double think to change mine..
Does colour matter or different luminous intensity, wavelength and angle of used LED?
And what about a fact that the blue light isn't good for eyes.
A lot of things matters. Different luminous intensity, different sensitivity of the chip to various wavelengths, LED angle, and also dispersion (the lens has different refractive index for various colors, so the color shifts the focal point).
And what are parameters of your blue and green LEDs - 50 mcd or 2000 mcd?
Wikipedia mentions Blue Hazard for Lamp and Lamp Systems while this is just an optical mouse meaning the light goes beneath not into your eyes.

will the LED still work if i swap LEDs by not using any tools ? like by just hand
I was waiting for the RGB led.
Já hned podle té výslovnosti poznal Čecha :D
Oh cool I have the same mouse
Did u get this from a security camera set?
Bruh
He got his on eBay. But I used to have a Samsung security system that came with one.
Thats a wicked Iron
Cool videos!!!!
I tried it. but after, mouse is not working well. Low sensitivity, led not working when move the mouse, pc says, USB drive not recognised or something
I wonder that will this work if i switch red with multi color
I've got a defective set of LEDs with long wire as negative... had to cut about 300 leads of the lot
Well.. In my tests here, depending on what sensor it has, it may play well with some solours. I had a generic "gamer" mouse, that had a blue led, and a bad sensitivity and didnt work in many surfaces. Its led got bad, i replaced it with a bright red led and it god way better. I think its sensors would use the red and blue channels of colours?
Well.. anyway, some non standard colours may have worse results, and the best colours for your sensor may vary.
Pppp yesa
kde se dá koupit UV dioda?
kolik stojí?
My Asus mouse have blue one originally
It works really nice
I also have a wireless mouse which have ir led because it have one battery and not enough for other ones but it dosent work as well
This was really interesting!
"syooper" well done
Docela mňamózní výslovnost 😂👌
thanks, i'm gonna solder a ir laser, ir led won't really work, but the doppler shift from the laser will definetly make it better, i certainly know why mouse manufacturers don't use lasers due to 50x the cost of a led, but since we got optical drives in the garbage it isn't difficult do diy one.
How your mouse goes with IR laser?
Been thinking if I can find blue laser that will be cool to have blue LED all surface ability with laser precision
Did you buy the infrared LED from TME i.e. Transfer Multisort Elektronik (which is an electronic component distributor) ?
I have the same soldering iron
Neat idea. I might try one of them color changing LED's.
I wonder if it would work with color changing RGB LEDs, or if the PWM from the control chip will render it unusable. I'm talking about the self-contained, self-color changing LEDs usually found in garden lights.
I'm almost sure that such LED would render it almos unusable or working very poorly and randomly.
Tested this, didn't work. The auto-RGB LED only manages to change colors when you move the mouse continuously because the chip applies full power to the LED when it senses motion. When it's not moving, the chip dims the LED to save energy(?) therefore, auto-RGB LEDs don't play well in this case because the PWM from the chip will cause the auto-RGB LED to reset 50,000 times a second (assuming the freq. is 50kHz) and only display red.
@@gabracal Yeah that's what I was thinking.

awesome
Question, why do the LEDs flash?
to save the lifespan of the led
Well, you could replace the red with IR if you only want to make it invisible
Great.
You can buy this mouse in Poland.
I bough one for only 4 zt.
That's 1euro!

You know that mouse is really common here in our country. (Somewhere in South Asia)

Will it work with thecolour changing led's
I changed the LED on my mouse with a blue one, and it worked fine on my white desk, but it didn't work on my black desk, so I had to change it back to a red one.
different colors work differently with different surfaces. I have a pale desk and the blue works the best on it.
Are you from Czech Republic or Slovakia?
Czech republic
If other colours are better, then I wonder why they always use red.
green ray and blue ray optical mouse😮😮
Thx
Yellow?
When I change LEDs, wherever possible I use either KF2510-2P 2.54mm PCB header socket or 2 Pin PCB Screw Terminal Block Connector Pitch 2.54mm / 3.5mm. Means you can change LEDs as often as you want

For me as a Pole (and some other Slav i guess) that statment in this context is kinda funny :D
PS. Chech, in general can be funny to Poles. Some Times u can find Chech memes on Polish memes sides.
ty jsi z česka ? :D
Yellow LED ?? :c
What about orange or yellow leds?
Those will work
Why do you have Polish description on the package? :l
Because he bought them in tme.eu, it's a polish components distributor.
Sir May i ask. Will my mouse still working if i remove the sensor led?
The buttons and scroll will still work but you won’t be able to move the pointer
Great video! What is the size of the led please? 3mm or 5mm?
It's should be 5mm. But my mouse does a weird thing. At the LED for sensor, my mouse won't work if it's not using the original red LED. I don't know why either
@@noobricer hey, can u tell us whats the brand and type of ur mouse ? i have logitech b100 the cheap one but still legit even after 3 years.. but the click feels not good anymore it feels hard and the cable have broken, i've change the cable with another same type from my bros mouse..

You can use that led that automatically changes colors, but the mouse will periodically change its performance :). It's better to have a standard led in the sensor and use the multicolor led just as a backlight.
@@DiodeGoneWild I happen to have an RGB Zeus M-110 and changed the optical light from red to infrared. And it works! And also you're right, I can't use my mouse for shiny surfaces. It mostly works on my mousepad tho.

Лучше использовать с ик-диодом, не отвлекает совсем. Купил такую уже готовую на алиекспресс. Добавил индикатор разряда элемента питания, его невозможно спутать как если бы подсветка была красного цвета.
DiodeGoneWild can you try RGB led into a mouse
can you send me a link where i can buy the leds?
I've bought those LEDs about 5 years ago in a local shop. You can buy tons of LED types anywhere and maybe even better ones nowadays :).
Elenco LED kit is really nice, it got
LEDs: 10 red, standard; 5 amber, standard; 5 green, standard; 5 yellow,
standard; 3 blue, standard; 5 white, ultra-bright; 5 red, small, 5
green, small; 5 yellow, small; 3 red, large; 3 green, large; 3 yellow,
large; 5 red, rectangle; 5 green, rectangle; 5 yellow, rectangle; 2 red,
blinking; 3 red/green, bi-color; 3 yellow/green, blinking
Also if you can afford it, get the rest of their kits, a breadboard and jumper wires like dupont, then you can do projects and stuff.
Try color changimg ones
This would probably compromise the operation of the mouse...
DiodeGoneWild i dont think it
Yes, because color changing LEDs work by rapidly varying the time each LED is on, thus mixing the colors inside the lens. Sensors do not like that and will glitch out.
Wat Lel -The Ceiling Destroyer Cmon, try it yourself not hard thing to do.
@@88werwolfhun88 i guess he does not want to destroy his mouse or he doesn't have color changing leds

Just put the infrared LED Instead of red, and put RGB in some another place of mouse.
Swap the LED for IR LED and you can have a stealth mouse! :)
Good idea, but does it work?

As long as it uses Avago and IR compatible sensors, it does work.

My Logitech wireless mouse is infrared only. Caution written around the LED, invisible optic.

put a small ir laser diode instead of the led, damn it works better.
Copy the board or recreate the circuit on some perfboard and use rgb leds and an arduino
