    This is a game I am quite interested in, and was very happy to see JonGetsGames as one of the previewers (the first one listed on the kickstarter page, in fact), as I know Jon does a great job explaining a game. I know a lot of people like to see who likes what games, and I'm glad Jon does those videos too, but a thorough tutorial and explanation of the game without being muddied by opinions is really refreshing. It shows you what a game is and what it isn't, and you can make your own opinions based on that alone. Fantastic job as always Jon!

      I 100% agree. I immediately went down to the videos on the KS page and clicked his video to see as he does explain very very well!

      This is also a great way to learn the game! Everything just makes sense in context.
      Heard about this recently from a friend and I’m excited to try it with my daughter.

    Thanks to your how-to-play video Roll Player Adventures has become our most beloved game of all time.
    The story is so captivating, the decisions are significant, and the dice manipulating puzzles are incredibly satisfactory.

    Just found out about this game after playing the OG Roll Player with M&M expansion. Went all in with the pre-order.
    Great video, helped alot while playing on TTS!

    Let's sneak past the tripwire. 20 minutes later: I've swapped my cubes for dice, rolled, played cards, bonus cards, used my class ability... what was I doing again?

    Thank you very much for this good explanation of the rules. I have one question regarding Hand cards: ist there a limit?

      I was surprised by the ruleset when I first sat down and read it. I can see how it will be polarizing and I'm glad the video helped you make that decision :)

    I was about to back this game, but I really don't like not having a "win/lose" condition. Still thinking about it, but that's a big mark against for me

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  4 роки тому +7

      It is certainly unusual. I emailed the designer to confirm this after I'd read the rules and he said he did this because he disliked having to replay a lost scenario in a narrative style game because that broke the thematic framework by essentially going back in time.

    So, another DnD game without the need of a GM. As I don't have a group to play with anymore I should be glad that these games are being published, however I can't help but feel sad that the role of the GM is becoming undesirable. I have been a GM in the past and I really loved it. Now, we can bypass the GM and instead have the players read the narrative and present them with specific choices. I will always cherish those moments when my party decided something completely crazy or out of the ordinary and I had to improvise, think out of the box, to continue the story. Great times. Pity that those that will play these new games won't experience them. Thanks for the great video Jon, cheers!

      Games with GMs still exist and are more popular than ever. Games are also being made for players like yourself who don't have the time or capacity to get together with other players for an interactive experience. I really don't understand what point you're trying to make because your own statements are so contradictory. It's like saying that kids don't go outside anymore because they play video games. They do both. At some point you have to realize that you're shaking your fist at clouds for no reason.

    So it’s a real D&D board game? Intriguing

    My biggest concern right now is relating to group play. Game looks amazing solo but seems like in group, it sounds like you almost need to play open hand and let everyone sort of figure out the puzzle for skill checks of fights and who plays which cards in what order. basically, does not seem to work very well for separate players playing separate hands but instead almost encourage one player or both players putting all skill cards in the middle, working out the puzzle and then playing in appropriate order. Am I missing something?

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  4 роки тому +2

      I only played solo with this prototype, but I do think like you said that multi-player games would involve group puzzling through card combinations.

    I have roll player and the expansions and was looking forward to this game but at $160 + dollars I'll pass and just play regular DND.

    Ugh, the writing. "Here's a choice with no details to make the choice anything but a guess!" Then, "Here's an elixir". Of course you drink it immediately, who wouldn't? I can only hope it gets better, but really, if you can't be compelling at the start, why should people devote their time and money in hopes it gets better?

      The first adventure is basically the tutorial so I am sure they wanted to keep it as simple as possible. I am sure they will get more in depth as you go through them.

    Na, great game, but very bad campaign deal. You'll don't get any kickstarter exlusives, not even promo material inclusive, but usually the games from them are at least a third below the kickstarter price. So everything you get out for giving them an in front loan is getting the game a bit earlier. Will revoke my pledge.

      My group really liked Legacy of Dragonholt and this looks like a v2.0 where you get a D&D Light experience but it has a little more board game to it then Dragonholt.
