OK, OK....I got your memo....So I'll keep my pristine late U.S. production '94 in .30-30 the way it is and focus on saving my nickels and dimes up for a Miroku produced '94 in .38-55.....Especially after I did a deep dive into how much it would cost to have the conversion to my current '94 to .38-55 done right by a real gunsmith. Great video! Keep 'em comin'!

FD Mackey 38/55 conversions $250 and excellent work by Jesse Ocumpagh at .35caliber.com Had a 336 A Marlin converted from 30/30 to 38/55. $250 including return shipping, turnaround at the time was about a month. That was about 10 years ago. Prices are still the same last time I looked. They offer 3, 4 and 5 groove options. I got the 3 groove and it shoots great with cast and jacketed bullets. Barrel caliber re stamp was well done on top of barrel like the old Winchester’s, lettering was old style letters and numbers.

This is the first I heard of the 40 rods practice. Nice to know. I hunt with a model 94 and yes I have a scope. The scope is because deer are rarely out in the open. Where we hunt in California there is lots of brush or trees. Beautiful gun.

    The Japanese are NO Joke.
Look at their Samurai Swords and Toyota's.
Ask Any American, about their Products and Quality control.
If it wasn't for them,we would be paying triple cost, to get an original Winchester.
Japan is carrying on a Tradition that Winchester stopped doing.
Call it out sourcing...at least Winchester picked some of the top people, as far as quality goes.
I study and forge Japanese tradition, as much as possible. My grandmother is Japanese.
    The Miroku 94...she's a beauty!
I pick up the Miroku 45 Colt lever gun in a couple of days. Case hardened action, round barrel short rifle.
Wait time here in California is 10 to 20 days, thanks to DOJ.
We are buying guns like crazy, here on the West Coast.
    Buy more Guns!
    Support the Cause!
    Support GOA and NRA.
Hit the Thumbs Up, Ring the bell!
    Christ bless!

I watched show on NHK and for my observation those Japanese Craftsman are fanatical about achieving excellence.
So those Executives at those gun manufacturers knew what they are doing to contract out to those shops in Japan as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't hesitate for a second buying a miroku.

The 38-55 and 32-40 came out in 1884 for the Ballard No. 8 and No. 9 Union Hill single shot rifles. I have 3 Ballards, and a ‘94 Winchester made in 1923 all in 38-55. Winchester dropped the Ballard name and called them Winchester.

What an excellent rifle. I love the level of power and the takedown feature. I have recently found I found one of the 1894 commerative "Legendary Frontiersman" rifles in like new condition in 38-55. Its an amazingly well made rifle for a post 64 version. Its actually a beautiful rifle but I need to get me one of the Trails End version. Even though my rifle is stellar I still prefer the carbine length with its shotgun style but and I like the takedown feature. To me this is the rifle I'd want if I were dumped off in really wild country.

That’s hilarious, and partially true, The first time I shot a really close deer with it was right when it was just getting daylight enough you could see your sights, and of course at the shot the deer dropped, and after the sun come up I was still up in the tree because we can get two a day, no I was looking down there and it look like it snowed around I Deer and I couldn’t figure out what it was but when I got down it was hair and when I rolled a Deer over off of the entrance wound it move all the hair off for 4 inches around the bullet hole, The skin was perfectly white it just didn’t have any hair on it, of course the entrance wound was big enough you could reach your hand in there.

Iwas thinking a fold down tang site from MVA or someone might be a great combo, use the buckhorns close, then fold up the tang for distance. Just dont know if it will fit with the newer tang safety. I agree, beautiful rifle!

Hi. Just received my Model 94 Trails End Takedown in 30-30 win. Very well made gun. A little nose heavy, but still ok. The only thing is the I installed weaver mounts set for the 94AE and they fit perfectly. But when I go to take down the rifle, the front base wont clear during the turning process. Any clues? Thanks

    • @Leverguns50

    • @Leverguns50
      @Leverguns50  4 роки тому

OK I just took my front mount stuck it on with the barrel off marked it, where I could see exactly where it meets the gun, Took it off started at that mark and made me a little notch, then I filed it down enough that I can get the barrel back on without it touching, so what I did is I marked it then I took it off the gun filed on it stuck it back on and basically you have to file it more on the left side as it tends to stick up a little bit higher there when you’re putting the gun back together

Nice! I like that rear sight. Not fond of the tang safety though. The Savage 99 takedown offered a 410 shotgun barrel you could buy. It's too bad they don't offer that with this one. 38-55 lifers should handle a 410. If not, you could still single shot them like you had to with most of the Savage 99's. Ya know, 38-55 doesn't get the press or credit it deserves. It's a dandy round.

I find your dislike of post 64 1894 Winchesters a bit amusing, I can't say I have ever heard anything functionally bad reported about them. For me these new rifles are not Winchester 1894s, those aren't made any more and never will be. Same as the Model 70. They do make nice replicas though and the Japanese make a beautiful rifle!

I would go even so far as to say they hadn’t made a real Winchester since 64, because my 1950 model is much better than any of my newer 94s, up until I got this one, I really wish they would’ve kept up the good reputations

@@Leverguns50 as a caretaker of the family Model 70 made in 1949 in .30-06 and the previous caretaker of the matching Model 12 (my one sister now has it) I am inclined to agree. Although I would have liked Winchester to go with a floated barrel instead of the screw on the Model 70 I really can't complain!

I have serval 94s that if you take the bullet out of the chamber then try to close the action it damages the cartridge below trying to push it back into the magazine and it will overtime ruin your cartridges, and also you can’t top off the chamber in those because they want you can’t push that cartridge back into the tube because the damaged rims, I haven’t fully checked it out but according to Winchester these new ones don’t do that

Got this bullet mold back in the early 90s, by mistake I was supposed to be getting one for my 35 Remington, but they sent me the wrong one, even back then I figured one day I would get a 38-55, and I did so I guess it all worked out, back then I didn’t even know what a gas check was, it is an old Lyman bullet mold.

Wilma McDermott that was 50-50 solder Lin-o-type and wheel weights not sure what the hardness is, I mixed it up years ago always seem to work good on bullets flexible enough to expand, next Time I may use wheel weights that should be harder.

I notice the Miroku has the half cock safety, like the old guns too, and no stupid button safety, like some of the newer Marlins.
Come to think of it, I think it is very un safe to trust a loaded chamber, with a safety switch or a button.
The best safety is gun or rifle always pointed in a safe direction.
The next best safety is not loading a chamber, until you are ready to fire.
I never use the safety feature on a gun. I am the Safety, and take full personal responsibility, on where that bullet ends up, when fired.
Many guys will put a safety on, after firing a gun, and assuming the chamber is empty.
You will perform as you practice, under stressful conditions.
As a hunter, practice jacking another round into that chamber, so you are ready for a follow up shot, on an animal.
Not doing so is a hard habit to break.
    I preach to my self.
    Christ bless!
