  • My personal thoughts about the show and 38 Special in general. Kinda critical, sorry. Also, UA-cam made me cut out the live songs. Had some good stuff but now it is only on my computer...It was a great show though!

No, that is cool! I would probably be a little bit nervous. And I am a huge Don Barnes fan.

They also sing Wild Eyed Southern boys and Rough Housin which had shared vocals between Donnie VanZant and Don Barnes. Don always mentions Donnie VZ when being interviewed.

Not a valid argument. I am talking about songs that defined 38 before Caught up In You. They used to open every show with Turn It Up, an awesome song. What about First Time Around? Think they should not play those? Ridiculous. They should not call themselves 38 Special. Clearly, it is the Don Barnes Band, whom I do love!

I'm glad that they are still playing and I would consider them Southern Rock, if for nothing else with the Van Zant connection. I do agree, it's necessary to pay homage to those either departed or retired from the band, and those that contributed to it (such as Mr. Peterik) as they made the band what it is. They still sound good. I would have walked away angry if I didn't hear "Chain Lightning". LOL.
Joe is looking for the spare ballast resistor for the 1966 Charger. LOL.

That is funny! And they did play chain, lightning, fantasy girl, back where you belong. I was sad that they did not play fade to blue. I like that song. I really miss songs like turn it on!

@@gtrfletch I went to a U2 concert in 2008 (blind date, free ticket) and they didn't play the songs I wished they would (I Will Follow for one), but otherwise they were great.

Don't know how much wildness is left in them eyes, but I'll go with, "Good Ol' Southern Boys" who are by no means embarrassing themselves, like some other Rock bands still out there. I like some Sherwood Forrest with my .38!

I agree totally. The Don Barnes band was awesome and I would go see them again and again. I was thinking more about it. We saw Styx with Tommy Shaw last year and they still played a bunch of Denis DeYoung songs. Fleetwood Mac still played Lindsey Buckingham songs without him. I mean these are songs that defined the band. And even if you are just a tribute band, you should make tribute to everyone!

There’s a lot of bands without the original members…
Does Journey go on stage and bring up Steve Perry ?? Does Foreign go on stage and mention Lou Graham ???
I mean some bands are still playing with NO original members…
So what’s the beef with Don Barns not mentioning Donny ?
Yes, Donny brought a ton of energy to the stage but Don is the lead singer of there hits. ..
    seen them many times …

You are missing the point. Does Journey still play songs that were sung by Steve Perry? Do the Eagles still play songs that were sung by Glenn Frey? I love the Donnie Van Zant songs. In many ways, someone else could sing the song and it would might be fine, I mean Bobby sang the Max Carl song and it was fine.
