    Faraday’s law of induction states that a metal rod moving in a magnetic field induces electrical voltage. This dynamo principle also governs the way electromagnetic flowmeters work. Endress+Hauer's electromagnetic flowmeters are suited to measure all electrically conductive liquids in every industry.

    Transcript of the video:
    Basic physics of this principle can be traced back to the English physicist Michael Faraday. Two field coil is located in each electro magnetic flow meter. These coils generate a constant magnetic field over the entire cross section of the measuring tube. Two electrode which can pick up electrical voltages are installed at a right angle in the wall of the tube. If there is no gas/liquid flow, no induce electrical voltages measured at first between the two electrodes. The electrically charged particles of the conductive liquids/gas are evenly distributed. Shown here in red and blue particles. However, as soon as the liquid starts to flow in the measuring tube magnetic field applied a force to the charged particles as a results the positively and negatively charged particles in the liquid are separated and collect on the opposite side of the tube wall. Now an electrical voltage forms which is detected and measured by the two electrodes. This voltage is directly proportional to the flow velocity on the pipe line together with the known tube cross section the flow volume can then be calculated. The greater the flow velocity, thus the separations of the charge particles greater the electrical voltage between the electrodes. The electrodes also detects what is called interference voltage. Which has to be separated from the actual measuring signal. One method that has been successfully used for this purposes to create the magnetic field with a pulse direct current, to do so the polarity of the magnetic field is alternately reversed, illustrated here in slow motion. Voltage pick up on the measuring electrode now constantly changes in polarity. As a result all constant interference voltages can be eliminated. For example: electrochemical effect on the liquid or external electromagnetic field. Thus, the size of such interference has no impact whatsoever on the actual measuring signals. The advantages of this are a stable measurements and a stable system zero point.

    @David: Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction is the basic principle of any EMF. A voltage is induced if an electric conductor is moved through a magnetic field.
    Instead of a wire moved within a magnetic field formed by a permanent magnet, a conductive liquid passes through an alternating magnetic field generated by coils. If there is no movement, no voltage is induced (this are not particles, this is the induced voltage). The EMF’s is capable to measure the flowrate in both directions. Based on the polarity of the induced voltage one can detect the flow direction.

      No, the principle at work here is the Hall effect, not the Faraday effect. There is no electromagnetic induction since the fields are static (except for the reversals).

    Would you say that the hall effect principle is applied here since a magnetic field is placed perpendicular to flow and charges are displaced sideways

    • @endresshauser
      @endresshauser  5 років тому +1

      The hall effect is created though a permanent magnet where the measured voltage is proportional to the field strength.
      With the magnetic-inductive measurement principle, a constant field strength is created and through the flow velocity (of an conductive liquid) a voltage is induced.
      The voltage induced is proportional to the flow velocity and is supplied to the amplifier by means of two measuring electrodes.
      Difference is therefore that the inductive measurement principle needs moving charge carriers in the magnetic field.

      @Rui Ilhavo - To keep the instrument performance and reliability is recommended to install the flowmeter >5DN inlet and >2DN outlet runs. There is one option for Promag 400 that it's possible to have 0 inlet and outlet runs but only for 90ºangle turns, nevertheless, with this option you have to consider pressure lost in the meter.
      Regarding safety depends how you support the instrument mechanically, please be aware of vibrations on the pipe.

    • @rjaganmohanrao
      @rjaganmohanrao 6 років тому

      The flow meter is mounted 5 pipe diameter from the pump or any bends, 10 pipe diameters downstream of pipe should not have any bends. This to avoid turbulance in the flowing fluid.

    So the flow rate depends on what substance (liquid) is flowing through the pipe right?

    • @endresshauser
      @endresshauser  4 роки тому +2

      As long as the medium (liquid) is above a minimum conductivity level, the flow rate measured is directly proportional to the velocity of the medium flowing through the meter. There are of course some aspects to be considered when selecting and sizing an electromagnetic flowmeter for a specific measuring purpose including the properties of the medium.

    can i use this to get measurement from partially filled (pressurized air and liquid) pipe?

    • @endresshauser
      @endresshauser  6 років тому +1

      @eren ay: as shown on the video, the flowmeter measures the voltage on the electrodes which is linear to the flow velocity. So by knowing the flow velocity and the cross section of the flowmeter, the electronics calculates the flow rate. This measurement is correct as long as the pipe is full. The moment the pipe is not full, the flow rate cannot be calculated accurately anymore, as the meter does not know how much liquid and how much air is in the pipe. As long as the measuring electrodes are in contact with the liquid, the meter will measure the velocity and calculate the volume on full pipe conditions. For this reason, we have implemented in the unit a non-full-pipe detection, i.e. the moment there is air on top of the meter and the so called EPD electrode is no longer in touch with the fluid, the meter will display an alarm so that the user is aware that his measurement will not be correct anymore. The moment the fluid is below the electrodes, there will be no measurement at all anymore.

      @erenay5088 6 років тому

      First of all, thank you for your reply. So, do you have any product to measure partially filled pipe? I saw some ultrasound tech. but they are running at normal pressure such as sanitary systems.

    • @endresshauser
      @endresshauser  6 років тому +2

      None of the classical flowmeters can be used for partially filled pipes unless they're designed for this typical application and described accordingly. Usually it makes more sense to find a solution in installation to keep the pipe always full rather than to use a flow meter for partially filled pipes. The reason is with the measuring uncertainty. A flow meter for partially filled pipes does always offer an increased uncertainty compared to flow meters for full pipes. That's why only few flow meters for partially filled pipes can be found. Suggestions for modifying installation in order to keep the pipe full can be given if you contact our office/representative in your country.

    Magnetic force is applied to particles to a single electrode, how are the oppositely charged ions goes to opposite side electrode as blue and red opposite charged ions separated ?

    • @endresshauser
      @endresshauser  2 роки тому

      A conductive liquid contains positive and negative ions. As soon as the liquid starts to flow, the movement of the ions through the magnetic field results in a force on the ions, this is Faraday's law of induction. The force is proportional to the charge and causes the positive and negative ions to separate, depending on their charge. For illustration purposes, this process is shown strongly exaggerated in the animation.

    • @endresshauser
      @endresshauser  7 місяців тому

      Thank you for your question. An electromagnetic flowmeter operates based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. According to this law, a voltage is induced in a conductor moving through a magnetic field. In the case of an electromagnetic flowmeter, the conductor is the conductive fluid flowing through the pipe, and the magnetic field is generated by coils surrounding the pipe.
      When there is no flow, there is no movement of the conductive fluid through the magnetic field. As a result, no voltage is induced in the fluid. In other words, the absence of flow means there is no change in magnetic flux, which is essential for inducing a voltage.
