Omg what a fitting tribute to a Australian national treasure 🤠✌️had the honour to meet joy and anne about 9years ago beautiful ladies of country sad and happy day i just bought my beloved Toyota then driving home i heard our beloved show man had left us 🙏 rip old mate 🤠 i named my beautiful red kelpie dusty cheers Stephen 🤠✌️🦘🦘🐨🐨🌹🌹
Just shows the older cars a much tougher. And when you look after them they'll give you life without end it's the same for me my LandCruiser 1988. Love this song singing about a wonderful car. And a true man of Australia
It goes to show that IF HE WANTED TO David could have followed in his father's footsteps, but he chose a different path in life and you have to respect the guts & integrity it took to go in a direction in which he could not trade on the 'Slim Dusty' brand!
My wife and I made the trip to Australia in 2010. Would love to see that old Ford on display. We drove up to Nulla creek and stopped at Slim's boyhood home. It was an honour for me to stand in the paddock in front of that house. On the way out I pulled a small stone out of the water in Nulla creek and have it here on my desk in Arizona
If you're on Facebook, check out this album from my recent visit to The Slim Dusty Centre where Old Purple has pride of place in a display: facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1904233176290993&type=1&l=bd615675ff
I Meet Slim After Work In Mackay ln 1975 At His Mates Place On Bridge Rd He Stayed Over They Where Busy Cathcing Up And Listen To Some Demo Tapes Etc l Went To The Boomerang Hotel And My Girlfriend Picked Me Up I Never Saw Slim Again But I Think Of Both Of Them Now Still Love That Day Thanks Slim Thanks Tricia Love You Still Gary😎🇦🇺By By Baby
Just found out, that David is a "Doctor" is that true? pays to have brains as well as sing. He teams up well with his talented sister Ann on this great favourite of mine. Good 'Old Purple'. Keep Slim alive...
I saw the Slim Dusty Family concert when it came to Toowoomba in July ... absolutely brilliant!!! So awesome to see and hear them all together again. The saddest song was "Family Reunion" as the only one not there to sing was Slim. Still, it was an incredible night. Will be thinking of you, Slim, on Friday (19 Sept) as it clicks over 5 years since you passed away. Rest well, mate. Peace, rose anne.
My grandmother used to cook for slim joy and the kids at the cry hotel in sale our family were good friends with slim and his family rip mate you are the true king of the bush
My Grandfather used to teach with Joys brother, simeon. He used to often have dinner with Slim, Joy and Simo and was great friend with Slim and Joy.. A few years ago he got a kidney infection and was hospitalised at Gosford. His doctor was david who he hadn't seen since he was a young fella. Funny how that sort of thing works out.
Great Old car sadly its days on the Road are over, Now in the Slim dusty Centre for all to check her out and the great display thay have there about Slims life on show
Robert Muller the slim dusty centre at kempsey south is a must see for all slim dusty fans entry price was $15 i think per adult at the time i went. great display on show
Bit slow off the mark I know but saw this on NITV this morning and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT, Love it, don't know how you sang it without crying, I had tears in my eyes. Slim was a legend, and David you have a beautiful voice, just love this, well done.
@fontheking5 There IS no Slim Dusty version - this was written by David after Slim's death, for the Family Reunion album, recorded by the family a couple of years after Slim died.
@Waimate43 Yes it is true that David's a doctor - I remember an interview back in the 90's with David and Slim that David had spotted something irregular with Slim and ordered him to get it checked out. Dr David Kirkpatrick MBBS FACEM is an Emergency Physician
It is a shame your dad did not much time for you. He favoured Anne but thems the breaks, shit happens. You have dealt with the treatment and have moved on. Well done old son. I really admire you as a person.
@blinkstabill I'm guessing Joy still has it in Sydney, but I'm also guessing it'll go up to the Slim Dusty Centre when it opens - at least I hope it will!
Was registered as... 1971 Purple Ford Fairlane Sedan But you gotta love those 1960s and 1970s Ford and Holden paint scheme names, and so much variety, they were far more imaginative than now.
Any old Car The same, ,and in very good condition d b worth at least $15.000 these days and easily too🙂ESPECIALLY AS IS and not restored but!! If Slims family ever auctioned it, being or having been Slims car, The sky d b the limit!! NOT that the family ever would Auction.it!! But on line or not!! I know Dick Smith would make the first offer of at least $50.000 The reason I say that is THERE IS ONLY 1!! IT WAS NOT ONLY SLIMS CAR, IT WAS HIS PRIDE AND JOY!!( NO PUN INTENDED!!) It'll obviously never be sold but IFFF it was I'd say the proceeds d go to the Salvation army. As I know Slim and joy did and donated a great deal to them. I'm a dyed in the wool Holden Man!! AND slim had a few of them too!! BUT,he took that old car where a bloody Dozer wouldn't go!! I'd say she's been around the clock quite a few times!! AND!! I REALLY DO LIKE ANNE and David Singing, BUT!! I think they'd best leave it to our treasured recordings of Slim!! Dad bought Mum a Kriesler RadioGram before us 4 kids were born, it honestly had BETTER REPRODUCTION than Any new modern engineered up C.D ude hear today!! Dad always said U could smell the gum leaves burning whenever he put a Slim record on!! The tone, base and clarity was beyond belief...FF To about 1971 and Mum wanted a new radiogram!! so, dad bought a HMV From the western stores/ pre Myers in Dubbo!! it wasn't even In the same class as Our Kriesler!!😕And Dad gave the Krieler to an old bush mate which is STILL running and playing perfectly today!! Dad wasn't famous BUT!!! That old Kriesler would HAVE To fetch at least $2000.or more today folks!! Because it's still in pristine condition and akin to Slims old purple car, THEY JUST DONT MAKE EM THAT WELL ANYMORE SADLY!!
Nice song, nice car, pity whoever owned it allowed the rego to lapse in late 2015. One of the best cars Ford ever made.

SLIM WAS A DOCKER HE LOVED PURPLE
I had one, a proper rustbucket, BUT it got me there. Tom
Ian surprised he didn't buy a purple Valiant instead of a ford
@bigbadnewman , yeh mate thats miles well over a million K's in the new term all this new junk would have fallen apart well before 900,000 miles was even close
Wouldn’t make half of it
what ever happened to the old Ford is it still around ?
Is 'old purple' their 2nd car? As in the clip for "Looking For, Looking Back" it shows what appears to a Holden?
It's a Ford Customline. He used to own that before Old Purple:)
When Ford made old purple l doni what they did wrigh or wronge that day
