Because people figured out why the games were not working and how to fix the issues. It has all been a very collaborative effort by many people. Testers, bug reports, shared save games, patchers, coders and VGE making videos and coordinating a lot of all this. This effort show Robert how to fix the games that he didn't know how to get working.
Everyone who helped contribute to the development of the core, from the actual programming/patching to play testing, should pat yourselves on the back for this! THIS is teamwork!

I remember people sharing modded rom files that played well with azum's final build but I don't know/understand the new technical developments of the core. Edit: thanks for the great vids btw! I understand these questions are partially answered in the vid but it'd be nice to get a run down of core dev since azum closed his patreon in a single vid.

@@weinerschnitzel7 Exactly, the purpose of an FPGA implementation is to get as close to 1:1 compatibility at a hardware / timing level. It doesn't really feel that is the case if you need to apply hacks and patches by hand to get it to run with the core that's supposed to be behaving like the original system. It's kind of the reason FPGA enthusiasts are willing to shell out all the cash for that experience rather than using the myriad of emulators available.
