I am hobbyist photographer and own the Nikon z50 with both kit lenses and the Vitrox 23mm 1.4 lens. Most of my photography is while I am traveling, family events and holidays. I live in South Florida (east coast) lots of light pollution so not good for Astro photography. Thanks for the tips on Astro photography. BTW Leigh how is your back, from this video it looks like your doing much better…great to see.

Was out shooting Astro recently trying to capture the Perceid meteor shower. It’s been a wet summer and the dew is heavy at night. So, I had a USB power bank with 3 usb-A outlets. I used 2 of the outlets to power lens heaters and the other outlet to power the older camera with the smaller, weaker batteries. Using more than one current draw means there is/was little chance of the power bank shutting off as one of the 3 was going to be calling for power all night. In addition, I had a 2 usb timers set to turn off the power to the lens heaters when my time lapse was done (I didn’t want the battery to drain completely.

Very informative and entertaining! I thoroughly enjoyed this video. BTW...I used your code with KEH for the first time (RF100-400) & RF50 1.8. Thank You. I'm a very happy camper!

How does it compare to the GM 14mm 1.8? Buy them both and test yourself!
Because no one on UA-cam had the decency to make the comparison in their “review” of the damn Sigma!

Another really interesting video, thanks for sharing your abundant skills. As a D3500 owner with my best lens for astro being an FX 50mm F1.8, astro can be challenging, but with this info I feel much more confident about getting better shots, though a lottery win would clearly help too ;-) ... Also very pleased to see Leigh looking well.

Thanks both for sharing, those are some nice images and time lapses. As we're manually focusing for Astro, another tip would be to spend time dialling in focus as It's pretty much the only thing you can't fix in post (although there is a Luminar NEO plug in using AI that seems to help). A Bahtinov focus mask can help with nailing focus, or zoom in and use focus peaking. An external intervalometer can also be handy for taking a number of exposures without creating camera shake, although a lot of cameras will have this feature built in now days. Thanks for the great video and I hope your back is holding up ok.

Thanks for a great informative video. How do you define noise, Luminance or chroma, perhaps both? Luminance noise don’t bother me but colour noise does, the latter difficult to remove. Also do you have a fave sensor size? Cannot tell the difference between sensors of my A7s(v1) and my A7R2, both show noise despite I never use ISO above 12,000. Thanks.

Great video... A question, help if possible... I am buying Sony A7 IV, what lens would you recommend for astrophotography, Milky way... Sigma 14mm f1.4 DG DN Art, or Sony 14mm f1.8 GM? Or some other lens perhaps? Thank you very much, would appreciate your reply... 🙂

I prefer to have an f/1.4 lens for astrophotography. I own the Sigma 14mm f/1.4 DG DN Art as well as the Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM. They are both fantastic!
