Named simply for the reason that an airline office was located down the road when it first opened its doors as Bengaluru’s first drive-in restaurant in 1968, Airlines Hotel harks back to a time when life was uncomplicated. As evident in its non-pretentious South Canara fare headlined by the wafer-crisp butter masala dose, that has won it legions of fans over the years, served under the magnificent verdant canopy of ancient banyan trees. Some may say the restaurant is a relic of the past, but then life has a way of coming full circle, the restaurant’s garden eating providing a much-needed social-distanced setting with the bonus of Bengaluru’s glorious outdoorsy weather. Mangalore Buns
A puffed deep-fried pastry made of maida dough that’s fortified with ripe banana, yoghurt, cumin seeds, and left to ferment. The bun is a tad chewy, the banana making its presence felt on the palate and also aiding in its subtle sweetness.

Butter Masala Dosa
Loaded with butter and the resulting calories, the dose is crackling crisp and ironically a hit with Bangaloreans for whom savouring this is a ritual after an early morning walk or jog in nearby Cubbon Park! But then, to be fair this certainly a dose that can make anyone weak. Lined with a red chutney and bearing a potato stuffing that also employs the crunch of carrots and beans, this is a dose you will love if you like it crisp.

I wish you could try the Hotel Dwaraka near NR colony for its khali dose and set dose. It's a very popular eatery for people in Basavanagudi area. And the taste is of very good quality. Though the food options are less, they are good with whatever small menu they've got. Please keep up your good neutral review.
U can try bharjari oota jayanagar, its really good and worth the price, always a crowded place for lunch , its Veg.

WE had our wedding reception at the Airlines Hotel On October 8th 1973. I just came across your review and was keen to see the hotel now a days. Brings back a lot of good memories. Thank you.
I love how this restaurant had adapted to modern changes like allowing pets, drive by etc despite being 50 years old. This is why they are always packed. I would love to visit this place when I go to Bangalore next time!
Go on weekdays, not on weekends... I have been there on week end.. It was fine to wait for our turn and within 15 mins got our sleeves a table.. only problem I found was the attitude of the staff.. there was this uncle who took orders, I had to get up from my seat and reach to him THREE times for giving order.. Still took his own sweet time and fun thing- he was just gazing here and there doing nothing.. Food was great.. the attitude may be because of the rush as however they treat their customers they are going to turnback
Omg! This is a place where dad used to drive us to have masala dosaduring early 90s.. Later on studied at Cottons, so this was pretty much a hang out spot during that time and continued to be for a very long time in my life. I still go back when I get the opportunity to visit Bangalore. Thank you for bringing back memories of such a wonderful place and it's food!🥰

Almost everyone from bangalore loves this place and it’s great location. It’s a nostalgic moment to remember us cycling here from school as young boys to riding bikes here to driving our first cars here to one of the most super prime locations of bangalore.
Waiting to get back to India again and airlines drive in with the wooden table in the car seat again and eat in the car if they still allow that.
My friend in Bangalore is an ardent regular at this place even on weekday evenings sometimes. I accompany him whenever I am in Bangalore.

I have extremely fond memories associated with Airlines. I went to school at St Joseph’s Boys, right around the corner and worked at UB City, later in life; obviously Airlines has been a part of my life. The coffee is to die for! Thanks for this video, miss Airlines a lot here in the US!

Easily the BEST place for a Butter Masala Dosa, Pullav and Karabath. In fact the very first thing I eat every time I come to India is the Karabath at this iconic hotel. It's hard to think of Bangalore without "The Airlines Hotel".

Way back early 70s on Sunday afternoon / evening we used to savour on delicious Shaviga bath or Semiya bath and fresh hot assorted bajjis right from kadai. Gone are those golden period
Visited Bangalore for business trip first time in 1967 and stayed at Hotel Airline on Mahatma Gandhi Road ! Room rent was Rs 45 approximately ad room was huge ! Hotel had a drive in vegetarian restaurant serving quality South Indian dishes !

Visited Bangalore first time in 1965 ! Stayed in Airlines Hotel ! Was surprised to find no air conditioner and even fan in room in month of June ! Had to use wooden blankets during night !

Back in 1970's the restaurant had a much bigger area and they would serve directly at the car window!
The restaurant also had a children's park with a slide, swing and a rabbit cage!
It's was called Airlines because the booking office for Indian Airlines was next door, and everyone had to come there to buy a ticket.
The second drive-in restaurant in Bangalore was Sarovar in Lavelle road. Konark in Richmond road had a drive-in section for a short while in early 80's!
Back in 70's and 80's Airlines used to serve coffee in white cup and saucers with sugar on the side. Waiters wore a uniform and service was really top notch and it was not a crowded place like it's today.

Airlines hotel has something about it's ambience.. especially the outside dining area... some sort of nostalgic effect it has.. even for someone who hasn't visited it before & is visiting it for the first time, the outside sitting vicinity gives a "déjà vu" effect😁
Price is a subjective factor isn't it...my actual concern about this hotel was the occasional (the occasion was quite frequent though😜) "messages" that our tables received from the pigeons n other birds above that giant banyan during our outside dining here😂
We were like samurai's shielding our food served on the table😂😜 from those zap attacks😂
