I don't see much value in heartstone in PvP. Since its a 1 star gems, means its for lower res accounts. Those low res will lose the shield much earlier than the full duration of shield, hence the duration extend in most cases does not apply. Lucent watcher is good for low res accounts. but once you reach 2k+, i feel can replace it with much better options.
I use frozen and ashes, and I aux spiteful. Of the 3, auxing spiteful made the largest noticeable difference in my survivability. I'd like to replace the ashes with a full spiteful but I'm not currently spending and the ash is 5/5 rank 7 so replacing without losing a bunch of res would be difficult right now. Barb is my primary class. I'd be interested in doing a f2p barb account using every defensive gem and focusing on armor/resistance over armor pen, could be fun!
Fun beeing a punch bag? :p you have undying rage it's enough for survivability. Fun is killing people. Go for vengeance bonus + all ovensive gems. You will see how Fun it's to play even with barb
@arkadio638 the meta has shifted since I did my spending. I'd be happy to redo all my gems and setup but I'm certainly not going to pay for it all over again. Either way, odd comment on a video specifically talking about defensive gems.
being a punch bag as you say helps your team to do the kills and push the idol in PvP. Barb will never be a Dps class so assume your role. Going for kills only satisfies your ego not help you Win as a team.
@@Ytpjoss not anymore since other barb can delete you in one second with spartakus helmet. You can also make lot of kills as a barb. I am usually on the top of leaderboard with kills.
Wow, have you actually run a defense build? Echo is trash. Like you said can't block crits. Unrefined passage is arguably the best defensive 1 star, especially when comboing Battle Guard. Mossthorn is a great 2 star sub or addition for frozen or spiteful. I could go on but I don't get paid. Should really look at synergy of def gems with your off gems. reactive or counterattack gems...yeah that's defense.
BoTW, mossthorn & defiant soul are all counter attack gems. kinda defensive gems but not totally. Can use BotW but like phoenix ashes the gem is a bit outdated.

Heartstone is good for a 1 star, BUT you have to shield stack. It's secondary effect is nice too.

Almost all 5 stars are trash gems. Why can't they make more interesting gems.
