In 1970, Deep Purple borrowed the riff on "Black Night" from The Blues Magoos 1966 song "We Ain't Got Nothing Yet". Have a listen and you will find out.
@@hanierfamily But of course that version isn't as good as either the Stockholm '72 TV broadcast or the Long Beach '71 official-bootleg (...the more jamming the better)
It's amazing watching folk listen to something for the first time....... something that has been part of my musical life for around 50 years......us Old Gits got all the best music in the late 60's and early 70's. What a great time to have been around 👍🤟🤟🤟💚
Your future selves sent me here to see your emotional response. Check out Blues Magoos, We Ain't Got Nothin' Yet from 1966 to here this riff in it's past form. Too much time travel, I know. WOO!
This was actually a chart hit in the UK in 1971 ( TOTP's appearance and all ,) ! This and paranoid by Black Sabbath ! It just shows you how much chart music has changed ! Can you imagine a rocker like this making the mainstream charts today ?? 😀
Great reaction, loved your enthusiasm. Deep Purple is an awesome band, such an abundance of talented musicians. I saw them live around1972/73, and a friend just saw them a few weeks ago in Germany. Keep on rockin boys!
Deep Purple's biggest hit in the UK after the band's management, or record company, told them they needed to write a single. The live version from the Made in Japan recordings is even better.
The only mainstream TV coverage of chart music in the UK in the sixties was Top Of The Pops and it was usually dire, consisting of bland pop, parent's favourites and dire novelty hits. Except for one memorable and entirely untypical episode which featured both Paranoid by Black Sabbath and Black Night by Deep Purple. My school playground the next day was filled with boys demonstating spectacular air guitar solos to each other, me included!
Thanks for you reaction! 😊👍🏻I saw these guys in Ålesund, Norway, exactly one month ago. They rock on as never before. I love them and their music to bits!🥰
Richi Blackmore - having done his homework - meaning - he's trying out everything you can with his tool...only the heavy-metal dudes are cranking out of an instrument. That thing that John Lord and the drummer are doing their thing also - is hammering out the works. Ian Gillan always on pitch is simply unbelievable.
Also, considering how you reacted, you should try Light in the back by Rainbow which is the sister song if Stargazer which is also magical. I haven't seen any reactors do Light in the black yet!
Love the crazy Blackmore vibrato, whammy bar screaming solos. Fun fact: he was so brutal with the whammy bars that his guitar tech used to get custom ones made up that were much thicker and stronger….
The signature riff is often said to be copied from RIcky Nelson's version of Summertime, but - compare them - it's actually copied from We Ain't Got Nothin' by The Blues Magoos. What no-one seems to notice is that, beyond that, the song is a bit of a rewrite of John D Loudermilk's Tobacco Road.
Another great track from them around this time is 'Hush', this is one of my favourites by them. Another great Halloween type track is, 'Redbone - The Witch Queen of New Orleans', if you could do this one please.
Ian Paice, THE rock swing drummer. Try My Woman From Tokyo from their Deep Purple In Concert. A double album from two BBC concerts, one from 1970 the other 72. Great live but recorded under good conditions. Edit: my mistake, gettin' my women mixed up! I meant Strange Kind Of Woman. ua-cam.com/video/mCWeTdT2tnI/v-deo.html
Great reaction. Anyway, can i request your reaction to superb band from japan? The band is call "Lovebites" They all The Beautiful Queens heavy metal band right now in the earth. They are really really World class musicians. Phenomenal. And they have a lot diehard fans like me😁. The fans called Wolfpack. The song is "Set the world on fire" Hope you check out, and can enjoy it too. Big thanks🙏
Love me some Purple. You want something spooky, you should do Disturbing the Priest by Black Sabbath when Gillian was with them off Born Again. Yeah. Peace
@@ronbestford7699 Because some suited and booted young record executive thinks it sounds too raw and needs to be updated for the 21st century. But this is definitely remastered..
Really confused...how is it that you have never heard so much music? Every single song you guys have played is really mainstream popular music with the exception of Nick Cave. I don't understand. What were you listening to all these years?
We are from Canada. And I guess we were pop fans. The music I (Chris) knew best was charting in Eastern Canada while I was a DJ from 15 to 35 years old. Outside that I occasionally strayed. We're learning now what we missed then.

Wow! Indeed! 5 musicians at the top of their games. And Ian, Ian and Roger still rocking and still writing great tunes
They wrote great Halloween tunes..lol
"Child In Time" live, 1970, the British TV version is worth a listen/watch to fully appreciate the skill of this band.
We love that song

@@Grithron2 I think we know the British TV one, and of course, the album cut.

Deep purple, in rock, one of my favourite albums of all time!

Great singing by Ian Gillan, steady support to the guitar, organ and the drums. Love the drumming in this song. Cheers.
Killer song, Ritchie Blackmore doing what he does best.
He's up there with the very best
hard rock at its best.
Perhaps "Emmaretta" or "Demon's Eye" by Deep Purple as well. So glad you enjoyed Black Knight.
Probably Deep Purples finest album
Made in Japan is Purple's finest album🤟🤟🤟
Closely followed by Machine Head🤟🤟🤟

Check out Flight Of The Rat off this same album. Thumbs up on this reaction.
Listen to that double drumming..

Yay ! can't go wrong with some Purple

Good honest reaction. Good to see. Thankyou.
If you like this check out the live version from Stockholm 1970

Brilliant blues rock
A hit single
Cynthia, you're clearly a rocker at heart!
Joss Stone, I put a spell on you , would be brilliant
On the Deep Purple side, Speed King really rocks!!!!
Damn first song side one and remember this is early 1970
Just listen to this whole album
If you wanted to choose a Deep Purple song for Halloween, you should have chosen Vincent Price. Deep Purple is the most positive band in the world.
That certainly made you get down with the groove!
Did it ever! Thank you again for this. One more listen and I might have to bump off my favorite song for this one.

But Woman From Tokyo is also good, although it will be impossible to find a live performance from the 70s.
@@ninoorjon Weeeeellllll... there is the instrumental version on 'Last Concert in Japan' but that's really just Jon Lord goofing about.
How about Speed King, by Deep Purple?
😁😊
Try to find the studio version of this song. This is only the short version. By the 1st hearing, I was completely sweaty.
Cant wait for my request
Is this still a Chris favourite?
It is.

I couldn't hear the bass.
Is it just me or is what's being heard here a remastered version?
Why remaster Richie Blackmore, that's blasphemy, sacrilegious at the very least 🤔

Yes absolutel clsssi
Yes, the last solo is much longer than on the original single.
We're certainly not complaining.
Not very spooky as you said, in that direction Black Sabbath is the way to go.
