I went back to a couple of my earliest videos (episodes 7 & 8) to see what the color underneath was. Unfortunately I wasn't able to tell if it was the original Iris Blue or the red color on Lawton. When I removed the gas tank it did look like the boot floor was something bother than body color, but still hard to tell for sure.
My 69 Midget (MKIII GAN4) had that salmon colored bottom when it was new. That seemed to be the primer color I found elsewhere on the car. I suppose the dealer could have applied an undercoating if they were in a rust belt area. But the original salmon primer held up well on my car. I'll send you a photo that I have when I was doing a rotisserie restoration a few years back.
I had a frog eye that was red primer underneath. I asked the guys at Meacam Sprites about this. They said all the car bodies started on the line in red primer and it was simply a matter of wether the foreman on the line that day happened to be paying any attention to what was going on, if a car got properly painted in top coat colour. If the boss wasn't looking, then they would skip doing the underside. It's as simple as that. Top coat colour or primer. There's no wrong answer. Just sloppy quality control.

On Wheeler Dealers a fix to the oil leak was made. Does Bugeyeguys offer a similar fix? M.
