While there's been nothing to top the Thrawn trilogy, this one by Kevin J Anderson does a credible job. Qwi Xux and Admiral Daala were good additions to the EU, and it's great that it ties into the Dark Empire comics. What *never* made sense in this series and most of the novels from the Bantam era that were set after the Thrawn trilogy, was the complete absence of Noghri with their life debt to "Lady Vader" and her honour family - they don't reappear until "Planet of Twilight", which is damned perculiar. If members of the New Republic senate had "issues" with the Chief of State and her children being surrounded with Noghri bodyguards, I'm sure Leia Organa-Solo's response would have been something along the lines of: "Deal with it, rodders!" 😏

I love this series because we finally see Luke training Jedi. So much of the EU starts here.
