When I grow up, I want to be like Kim Kashkashian. In 1986, I studied with Kim. I have never heard what was a "real" viola sound like. My life has changed ever since.
I already commented on this piece, but I can't get over how awesome she is. Her sound and her phrasing are just spectacular. I'm a violist and I feel she really is the best of the best. She's my gold standard.
I almost cried at the end. One of the most beautiful works ever written for viola, and with the wonderful performance of Kim Kashkashian
Kim, the best violist in our time!!
Me too
This is such a brilliant, challenging piece, for performers and audience alike. I am so impressed by the way Kim Kashkashian uses her bow--movement that is almost like that of a painter.
Have just found out she is a martial arts afficionado
Kind of like Jackson Pollock, huh?
She;s maybe the greatest living violist-- at least in my opinion. She has spectacular technique and she can be really fiery when the music calls for it, yet she's also extremely thoughtful-- really approaches the music with great care and scholarship.
remarkable. Britten's music and this expressive performance had me pinned to the screen. I just wish it went on longer. Beautiful warm and clear recorded sound too. A new favorite.
The soundless sound,Zen viola playing.Namaste Kim.
A journey that begins in despair and ends in hope. Beautiful.
I love the sound of her viola ^^
I love the sound that she give to her viola ;)
@@GeorgesGondard Yep, she's an incredible player!
Beautiful playing. Congrats on the Grammy!
The best performance I have heard of an emotionally difficult piece of music composed by a dark soul.
Benjamin Britten, the british genius!! Very touching performance!
what a fantastic performance !
❤️❤️❤️
Classical music is like God. It works in mysterious ways. Its power is limitless. And you can never hope to fully understand it.
Chris Bystroff Why not? If we have good reason to suspect that hard AI is possible, why not try to unravel the mysteries of music?
Magnus Meier Err, strong AI rather.
OK. Then write a AI program that composes a sonata!
coming to this from perhaps too-frequent hearings of Shostakovich trios/quartets/quintets. And now I'm trapped in a loop of Britten re-listen sessions. Nice trap to be stuck in, IMHO.
awesome performance !! I like so much the way she's playing !!
Extraordinary!!
Great violist and musician !!
Yes indeed!
It's amazing! I wish I could completely understand and fully appreciate the beauty of the classical music.
I am a Britten fan but I find this work difficult nut to crack. That said, this performance is an eloquent advocate for the piece. Congratulations to all involved in this performance.
Thank you for listening. This is a great piece with a few very tricky moments. Kim Kashkashian did an amazing job delivering the color and character.
Kim, you knocked me out years&years ago with you complete was it HINDEMITH?
As a violist, I was never a fan of this piece but loving Britten all the way.....and you made
it EXTRAORDINAIRE!!!!!!!! Thanks and regards for your life and viola! Douglas violist.....
Magnifique ! Je suis en larmes! Merci
Stunning. And All the more appreciated as I am in day 8 of isolation due to respiratory illness so a piece this good that I haven't heard really captures 100% of my attention. Time flies while you are having g fun . I even forgot to cough😄
Her playing is so special and genuine. Thank you for listening!
Beautiful, thank you for sharing!
Bravo Kim!
Superbe!!!😍
Reflections on a song of John Dowland (1563 - 1626) for solo viola and string orchestra
For William Primrose
Better than Kim Kardashian
Exactly what I was going to write ! !
Кашкашьян, а не Кардашьян!

u trippin shorty
Bravo!
Очень красиво!!!
That's the viola for you!
#ViolaPride
Totally.
wow
2 things:
1. Great performance
2. Is nobody going to mention how similar he name is to Kim Kardashian?
Who is Kim Kardashian?
So many colors, control is amazing, and every note means something to her. No nuance is overlooked.
★★★★★★★★★★
UAL!!!!!!!!
I read Kim Kardashian -.-
Felix Mendelssohn Getting so tired of hearing people make lame juvenile jokes about KK's name; it detracts from the experience of her marvelous playing.
she tunes while she plays jjje XD
5:29 Wow🤯
My g/f thought it was Kim Kardashian, lol.

Great player - imagination, phrasing and tone are wonderful. But, where are the piano, and pianissimo effects? Even at the end, with the equally voiced consort passage in p, and pp, she plays in a relentless solo fashion. Too bad, as it loses the connection to the affect of the Dowland song which inspired this composition.
Great sound and amazing technique doesn’t mean necessarily good performance . Most of the Tempi and dynamics are wrong or at least not faithful to the composer’s wishes. A very “physical “ interpretation, but I doubt that it’s what this piece needs
Why does such a great viola player waste her time playing such anti-musical incontinence?
. . .
An ellipsis is an apt response to a claim that this Britten work contains zero "musical" value whatsoever. @@josuekoenig1723
