This week, Newslaundry’s Manisha Pande, Raman Kirpal, Jayashree Arunachalam, and Anand Vardhan are joined by financial crimes and corporate governance lawyer Sherbir Panag.
On the tensions brewing between India and Canada and the latter’s allegations of the Indian government’s involvement in the killing of pro-Khalistan activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Sherbir says, “Canada’s track record in dealing with Khalistani terrorism has been poor.” He adds that their “rhetoric and high-handed approach” is driven by their politics, as Canadian President Justin Trudeau’s government needs the support of Sikh MP Jagmeet Singh.
Jayashree, however, points out that Canada’s allegations can’t be brushed aside because of the parallel case of the assassination of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in the US. “The US has categorically stated and produced evidence that India used a gangster to assassinate a person on US soil.”

The images are vivid in people’s mind who went through it. They don’t talk about it, not because they have moved on but because they suppress it and try to get on with their lives. And you coming here telling them oh it’s long gone, it doesn’t matter anymore, trivialising it is not helping people heal much. It makes them angry. It was unfair. It was disproportionate. Innocent civilians were killed and tortured based on their look. It is affecting people to this day. The cases are still pending. Victims still stand uncompensated. And on top of that you’re all like shut up, let’s not talk about it because people have magically moved on. You seem as much deluded to me as those pro-Khalistan idiots. Hey News Laundry, why don't you ask the government of India to hold a referendum in Punjab on Khalistan and put this issue to rest for once and all since according to this, "Still wet behind the ears financial crimes lawyer" there is no support for Khalistan in India. (I believe he might have been thinking of support for Khalistan in Punjab but used the word India instead).
And for you lady, to diminish the state sponsored murders of tens of thousands of Sikhs in India in 1984 as a trivial matter shows the callous disregard you have for human life. Shame on you!
What is mind boggling is the fact that NO HINDU ANCHOR of a TV show or a Podcast ever considers it important to discuss the underlying causes of dissatisfaction of the Sikh Community, It always starts with the criticism and calling Sikhs Terrorists.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PROOF THAT NIJJAR WAS A TERRORRIST OR HE COMMITTED ANY ACT OF TERRORISM? Then please expose that for all to see and if not then kindly do some introspection on how you deal with this topic. Pointing fingers and name calling will not solve anything, a thoughtful and fair approach may be the solution.

Why Should India be Multiple Nation-States
India (Republic of India) didn't exist before 1947. Italy didn't exist before 1861. Turkey didn't exist before 1922, Germany didn't exist before 1871, Saudi Arabia didn't exist before 1932 and so on. Concept of Countries was invented in Europe in the 18th century. Before the invention of the concept of countries, there were only empires and kingdoms everywhere around world. Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Denmark, Poland, Switzerland, Slovenia, Netherlands, lechesiten etc were created after fall of 1000 yrs old Holy Roman empire in 1806. Italy and Germany were created in 1861 and 1871 by merging various small kingdoms of Italian and German nationality. Similarly all European countries were created based on their respective nationalities after the fall of empires and kingdoms across Europe.
After the fall of the 600 yrs long Ottomans empire in 1922, many countries were created based on their nationalities.Saudi Arabia didn't exist When Prophet Muhammad was born in Mecca.Turkey was created in 1923 and Saudi Arabia was created in 1932 after the fall of Ottomans Empire in 1922. Europe and Middle East was united under various empires and kingdoms for most of the history just like India. India was the name for the region east to river Indus. It was never a country before 1947 but a region or subcontinent where various empires and kingdoms existed just like in Europe, Middle East or other parts and continents of world.
Now the question is what is nation and nationality? A nation is a society that shares a common language, culture, and history and has shared interests. For example English, German, Italian, Turkish, French, Russian, Dutch, Spanish, Arabs, Persian, Kurds, Japanese, Korean, Punjabi, kashmiri, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Malyalam, Thai etc are nations and a country based on single nation or nationality or where a single nationality dominates culturally, politically, in economy and military is called a nation state. Most countries in Europe or 'civilised world' are based on single nationalities and are nation states or simply called nations.
There are dozens of nations within India and Pakistan. And hence India and Pakistan are union of nations or multinational countries. Nations are Punjab, Kashmir, sindh, Baluchistan, Gujarat, Bengal, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu etc. And in modern civilised world countries are created on basis of nationality like the countries in Europe (England, France, Germany, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Croatia etc) or in Asia (Korea, Japan, China,Thailand, Philippines etc) and Bangladesh etc are countries based on nationalities.
Among the 650 major nations in the world, the nations in the union of India are one of the largest nations in the world. After Han Chinese Mandrain, Spanish, Anglo Saxons English, and Arabic
      Bengali - world's 5th largest nationality
Punjabi- 10th largest nationality in world
Marathi- 13th largest nationality in world
      Hindustani- 14th largest
      Telugu- 15th largest nationality
Tamil- 17th largest nationality in world
Gujarati- 24th largest nationality in world
      Bhojpuri- 25th largest
      Kannada- 29thth largest
      Malyalam- 30th largest
      Oriya- 32nd largest
      Maithili- 40th largest
      Awadhi- 46th largest
      Assamese- 65th largest
Haryanvi, Marwari, Magahi, Deccan, etc in top 100 nationalities of world.
(Hindi, Urdu are not nationalities but artificial languages developed from Hindustani language and imposed on some nations in some regions, with only few native speakers. These regions have their own nationalities and languages. Hindustani is a nationality in western Uttar pradesh with Hindustani as native language).
Republic of India was created in 1947 out of the British Indian empire on the basis of two nations bogus theory. Two nations were assumed as Islam and hindusim. But in reality, Islam and Hinduism are not nations. India and Pakistan were not created based on nationalities (unlike in rest of civilised world) but on two nation (Islam Hinduism) bogus theory. Hence, these countries are based on religions.
On the other hand, Bangladesh is a nation state which was created on the basis of Bangla nationality in 1971 (5th biggest nationality in world). No other nation in the British empire (except Bangla nation) got sovereignty and independence. The sovereignty of all nations changed hands from British empire to two newly created empires based on religions. British empire just transferred ownership rights in 1947.
Three predominant civilisations in Republic of India, Indo Aryans, Dravidian and Sino Tibetic ( North East nations in the Republic of India) don't share anything although the first two civilisations share religion hence religion is the biggest binding force of the Indian Union followed by Military Power which is used to occupy non Hindu nations (Punjab, Kashmir, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya) with the Indian union. Most of Hindus in Indian subcontinent prefer religion over their nationalities unlike muslims (Kashmiri, Bangla, Baluch, Sindhi, Pashto) who identify themselves with their nationalities and even support nation states like Bangladesh.
According to research, Higher ethnic or national diversity within a country negatively affects economic growth through conflict between interests of various nations or ethnicities (Don't confuse the ethnic or national diversity with the multiculturalism in west due to migration, the migrants mix with diverse society and become part of nationality of the host country and work for the interests of the dominant nationality).
High 'nationality or ethnic' Diversity correlates with low GDP per capita.
Strong democracy correlates with ethnic or national homogeneity.
Punjab and Kashmir should be a free countries based on Punjabi and Kashmiri nationalities like Bangladesh. But Hindu Punjabis, Hindu Kashmiris and Muslim Punjabi don't want to leave unions of india and Pakistan, so Punjabi Sikhs, or Kashmiri muslims can't force them to follow to support the idea of Nation-States. Hindu Punjabis, who had deserted Punjabi language in 1951 and 1961 census by declaring Hindi as their mother tongue would never support a Punjabi nation state. They support a Indian state based on the Hindu religion. Similarly, Punjabi Muslims of Pakistan dont support Punjabi nation state either. They support Pakistan state that is based on Islam religion.
Similarly, Bengali Hindus and Kashmiri Hindus don't support Bangla nation state Bangladesh and Azad Kashmir and want to live in Union of India which is based on Hinduism. So Punjabi muslims, Punjabi Hindus, Kashmiri Hindus and Bengali Hindus are free to stay in their respective countries based on religions. But similar to Bangla Muslims of East Pakistan, who created Bangla nation state Bangladesh without Indian Bengali Hindus, Sikhs have the right to create Azad Punjab (a Punjabi nation state) without Punjabi Hindus and Punjabi Muslims (and Azad Kashmir without Kashmiri Hindus). As simple as that

Khalistan- The Struggle for survival of Punjabi Identity and nationality: A Legacy of Marginalization and Misrepresentation
Indians regardless of their political ideology label Sikhs as terr*orists and rad*icals when Sikhs stand up for their national rights i.e for the protection of Punjabi language and culture. The leftist liberal media been doing that since the formation of union of India in 1947. In 1947 there were around 15 provinces in Union of India (now it's around 30). Nehru tried to impose the Hindi language and culture on whole of union of India, in order to create a nation state India based on single language and culture like the countries in Europe. He got successful in BIMARU states but failed in rest of the Union of India including Punjab.
But the case of Punjab was unique. Whereas Marathi,Gujarati, and all south states were united in their struggle against Hindi imperialism, for the protection of their national identity (language and culture) the Punjab population was divided on this subject. Punjabi Hindus wanted to support Hindi and make Punjab a Hindi state whereas Sikhs wanted it a Punjabi state..
In 1951 and 1961 census Hindus declared Hindi as their mother tongue. At that time, Haryana and Himchal were part of Punjab. All Punjabi speaking Hindus of current Punjab and Punjabi speaking districts of Haryana and Himachal declared Hindi as their mother tongue. So now Punjabi supporters were in minority. That means official language of Punjab, including the medium of education in schools and Universities, and language of communication and employment would have been Hindi language. Now existence of Punjabi was under threat just like languages of BIMARU states are under threat of being extinct today.
Sikhs started protests for a Punjabi majority state just like South states, North East states, Marathi, Gujarati etc who were protesting for the establishment of their respective linguistic provinces. Whereas Hindus in rest of India were struggling for their respective mother tongues and nationalities, Hindus in Punjab deserted their own mother tongue Punjabi and supported Hindi in order to make Punjab a Hindi state like rest of BIMARU states.
So Sikhs were alone in their struggle for the protection of Punjabi nationality.
But leftist secular liberal media labelled Sikhs as radicals and anti national for demanding a Punjabi province based on Punjabi language. None labelled Punjabi Hi*ndus radicals who deserted their own mother tongue for their radical ideology. None labelled Marathi, Gujarati, South nations as radicals for demanding the linguistic provinces based on their respective languages.
It was easy and fashionable to target Sikhs because the Punjabi nationality struggle was being lead by Sikhs, not by Punjabi Hindus. It was fashionable to target Sikhs because the so called Intellectual, scholar class of Punjab (who were and still are predominantly Leftist Communists) were also against the formation of Punjabi speaking province and were supporting a united Punjab with Hindi as its dominant official language.
Indian state incited hatred among Punjabi hindus against Sikhs and Punjabi language that a Punjabi province is a conspiracy to disintegrate India and base for the establishment of a Sikh state called Khalistan. So after the Union of India defamed the Punjabi national struggle as hateful, anti democratic, anti social communal struggle against Secular peaceful democratic Union of India, it was easy for them to crush the Punjabi national struggle brutally violating the basic human rights and constitutional rights of Punjabi nationalists (in this case Punjabi nationalts were Sikhs).
India declared it illegal to chant slogans like "Punjabi sooba Zindabaad (long live Punjabi province). A 10 yrs old kid Shaheed Kaka Inderjit Singh was k*illed br*utally by Indian forces for saying Punjabi sooba Zindabaad in 1960. His arms and leg bones were bro*ken and his eyes were gouged out and he was th*rown into a dry well by Indian security forces. This was followed by arrest of thousands of innocent Sikhs and kil*ling of hundreds.
This created rift between Punjabi Hindus and Sikhs. Leftist secular media tried its best to demo*nise the Sikhs who were fighting for the protection of Punjabi identity. They discriminated against Sikhs when the Punjabi sooba was formed in 1966, In*dia robbed waters and natural resources of Punjab violating its own constitution, robbed tax money of Punjab during devolution of taxes to provinces, used Punjab as a colony while continued trying to make Punjabi minoritiy language in Punjab by various conspiracies

Why are Sikh separatists sounding like early believers of the Zionist project? Is the ultimate goal to create an ethno-religious state like Israel? And the hope is.. Canada will sponsor it? Like Israel' creation was handled by the UN and British, and now the US? With ethnically cleansing modern day Punjabs, just like Zionists cleared homes and villages of Muslims, Jews and Christians who didn't believe in the Zionist project?
Of course India is currently controlled by people who think they can do classic fascism and be smart about it (but they are clearly incompetent). And the alternatives are even more incompetent due to lack of genuine governing principles. But damn, your accusations seem so extreme. Your panelist has NO IDEA of what they are talking about... if You want to understand the views and mindset of the Sikh Diaspora, please bring someone who is living there currently... as someone who has lived most of their life in North America, i assure You, the views being expressed do NOT reflect those held by so many, and by that i am NOT blowing a dogwhistle of any kind, just to be clear.

2] Will Sikhs ever be able to come to there sacred shrines in India after creation of khalistan because I don't think for a long time there will be relations between both nations ?
3] Will the entire sikh community present in India will migrate to khalistan or not ?
4] The dream khalistan map wishes to have entire stated of Punjab, haryana , Himachal and some districts of Delhi and Rajasthan. Do you at all think that states like himachal and haryana which are above 90 percent hindu majority will ever join khalistan ?

Manisha, first time I don’t agree with you. You said Diaspora and particularly the person you saw on Sky New is stuck in 1984. Let me ask you a question if someone’s family members are burnt alive in front of them, saw fake encounters of their people and girls were rap3d in front of their fathers and brothers, What do you expect from those people? Do you want them to move on and forget everything?? The Khalistan issue should be resolved with dialogue and peace. With your logic Hindus should stop burning effigies of Ravana. Why don’t Hindus just move away from what Ravana did? Hindus still burn his effigy even after thousands of years. Indian government should admit it’s wrong doing (if they have done) and participate in the ongoing investigation. Again, as I said earlier the issue can only be resolved with proper dialogue instead of just vilification.

This whole debate was about water rights, preservation of the panjabi language and some other on the ground *important issues* that was converted into a *scapegoat* called "Khalistan" BY the Indian Goberment which then they used to suppress the just and normal state issues and demands into this Secessionism so that they don't have to deal with actual on the ground issues. Just label anyone and everyone an "anti-national" and "desh-virodhi" and character assassinate them and then BOOM problem is solved.
