Take McDonald for example, McDonald delibrately sold its shares to CITIC Group for 2 major reasons: (1) they want to hit the target of opening 600 stores per year over a period of 5 year without using too much of their cash while receiving a steady royalty from China like the YUM group does years ago (KFC, Pizza Hut chain), (2) They wanted to avoid a food quality crisis or other unexpected interruption which might hit their share prices in the US, becoz YUM was 100% owned by locals now, when there was a chicken issue, their stock was not affected much becoz they get their money from royalty which was pretty much guaranteed, while McDonald at the time they were still majority held by the American mother company (which proves what you said is not entirely accurate), and their share prices got hit directly becoz a lot of profit margin came from here in China and thus their bottom line was affected. They then devised a plan to cushion this by selling off their shares to local company (this is a 5 years deal, McDonald will get the company back on a reverse deal later). So they are currently on track to (1) meeting the additional 3000 stores new openings (2) their stock prices in USA is pretty much guarantee. To you as ordinary people who may not know how these deals works, and you went and listen to people like Rubio, Ted Cruz or Talyor Greene, of course you don't know what is really behind the scene. Look at Elon Musk, have you seen the piece of land he got in Pudong? Just 1 hour drive from where I live. We are both businessmen, why could he get that treatment and I cannot. We both are not Chinese citizen. Becoz he is way more clever than I am and a much better negotiator than me! He does not need to find local partners and share his tech. However, the Telco business sector is another story, but this is the same for ALL countries, it's a strategic sector so that is not openned up freely. Japan, UK, France, even United States. Even u dont need to go as far, Paris Baugette, I think they now have 3000 stores in China..... Chinese people buy bread from them everyday, guess what, they are not from Paris. They are 100% Korean! No one knows unless you are in this business. So next time, if u want to do business in China, and u want 100% owned by whoever on earth that might be in the world, let me know. I will guarantee u there is always a path and solution. (Unless you want to do business in military - that I cannot help u)
