ABOUT THIS CHANNEL
My name is Abby, but I hope to soon become Nurse Abby! At 40 years old, I decided it was time for a career change. I'm going back to nursing school! I feel like many things lined up perfectly in life and our family, so I'm taking this opportunity to try something new.
My youngest daughter, Raelynn, has several medical complications. Among other things, she has epilepsy and quadriplegic cerebral palsy. As a result of being her mom, I've learned that I actually kind of enjoy the medical field. I've learned to use all sorts of medical equipment such as suction machines, shaker vests, nebulizers, etc. I've also taken care of PICC lines, given shots, dressed many wounds, and a host of other things. I've learned a lot of medical lingo along the way, so much that I've sometimes been confused for already being a nurse when I've been in hospitals with my daughter!
It's going to be a challenge to go back to school, but I'm determined to make it happen!
Subscribe to come along with me on the journey!

Been a private duty nurse for five years as Lvn and I absolutely love it. I don’t think I could do anything else. Home care is just the best IMO!
This was an excellent idea to make this video to help others out. It's information that can't necessarily be provided in a classroom.
Thanks! Yes, I hope this gives a good look at what it's like.
@@NurseAbby We had home health care for my dad first and then my mom. This information is useful and vital for families. I went into it not knowing anything..... I just learned along the way.
This really shows what parents who have a special needs child like this go through, it really is a full time job, I hope you have time to be just a parent without constantly have to think about all her special needs too.
Yes, we do ❤️
I think the problem with this
Wrong 😑 this isn’t even funny 😆 it’s a good 😌 lol 😂 lol 🤣 eee
It's too much of a job
Itchy eyes 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm a Nurse who works in LTC...and I just applied for a home health job taking care of kids and adults. Thank you for sharing your video.
Excellent job Abby you are a great mother .Raelynn couldnt ask for a better mother and nurse. Chris your the best dad ever also. Raelynn is blessed. Not many people coukd give her the care she needs.i and anyone can see Raelynn is happy and well cared for.
Thanks! She's a blessing!
@@NurseAbby yes she definitely is a blessing.
You are one terrific mom that shows a lot of love 💕 to your daughters Rian and Emily the hospital 🏥 will love you because you're very sweet You're patient loving and caring
You'll do a great job working at a hospital 🏥 you will succeed
You'll be great 👍 with the elderly too
It's true you are the best roses 🌹 are red violets are blue 💙 sugar is sweet 🧁 and so are You
I’m also a pediatric private duty home health nurse and your video was like looking at a video of myself during a shift. I use almost the same equipment as well. I love what I do and the clients can feel and sense the vibes you bring when working with them which is why I related so much to how you would speak to your daughter and let her know what was coming next so she feels included in the plan of care, that is extremely important.
Your doing a good job I love the fact that your spending special time together
Hi Abby I love the way and Chris talk to raelynn every time you do something so she knows what's going on. I wish my caregivers would do that to see
Excellent job both mommy nurse and patient!❤❤
You are so kind!
Thank you for this video! Im going to be working peds private duty soon. So this was very helpful to see. Watching her mood shift was all worth it ❤
When I took care of my grandma we found it so much easier to use a pill grinder rather than a pill crusher. You can determine the thickness of the powder and it is easier on hands to turn a grinder sometimes than to turn some of the pill crushers. We got ours off Amazon and I worked wonders on the meds that are especially hard to dissolve.
Excellent job Abby! As an mother you taking more responsibility and take care of her in the day life, so great to see that. I love Raelynn smile so much that's so cool ♥️In the meantime, I wish sunshine baby Raelynn♥️ to be a normal girl. Oh Gosh! God bless her, you Abby, Chris and everyone right there, the entire family😊I watched the full video as well👍
We always share the responsibility, but Chris usually just records himself 🤣
You are an amazing nurse mommy 😘😘. My younger sister Selena is gradually now a registered nurse this year. September 1st, she starts her nursing job 🎓🌡💉
Thank you!
@@NurseAbbyawe. Anything for you fam ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing not only a day in a life as a nurse but also a personal side considering it’s your daughter 🎉🫶🏽this was so helpful !! I’m starting this month peds home health and this was definitely a great way to introduce expectations on what it’s like.. Ofcourse every patient is different but this was awesome !! You are an awesome mom and Nurse ! Those techniques 🤌🏽 you are a gem Abby and Raelyn is Blessed to have you ❤
Thanks so much! Glad it was helpful.
That’s a really good tip abby!! The amount of syringes I go through it’s unreal 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ thank you!!
Yeah, we would not have nearly enough unless we did this!
RN Abby, I am an epilepsy patient who is well managed on a trifecta of ant consultants and have been stable for quite a few years now. How many children do you have Abby? I really admirer you for not only being a Nurse but also a nurse with a severely epileptic child, I myself was diagnosed as an epileptic after I sized at an all night MDA fundraiser at my high schools gymnasium.
We have 4 kids. Hope you're doing well 🙏
Thank you so much for giving us this unique perspective into home health with your family, not many situations where this can be shown to this degree. 🙏
Also this may seem like a random question but I’m curious if y’all have backup power to use for the medical devices if the power goes out?
We were blessed to have a whole house generator installed this year at no cost to us. When the power goes out, it automatically kicks on within a minute. It's been great, and has already helped us a couple times!

Inspired by your hard work and dedication. You are one of the best!! 💕💕💕🙌🙌🙌
Wow, thank you!
I also use Kate Farms Peptide 1.5. But the huge improvement is in the pump. I have the same one as yours, but the alarm always went off and it said clog in line etc….so they just sent me a kangaroo pump? And it’s awesome. Many more options in programming.
It is heavier which affects how heavy the backpack is, but all in all I love it and think it’s well worth it.
Have been wondering how all have been doing love you all😊
It’s nice 👍 see you nurse Abby love 💕 you sister Abby and baby gril Raelynn 😊
You can also be a school nurse even work at school for special needs
You'll be a terrific nurse
Would the day looked any different if she wasn’t your daughter and was a client?
Every client has needs specific to them, so it's hard to say. But this video shows a lot of what a home health nurse would need to do with Raelynn on a given day.
Did you say you put tape over the syringes to keep the numbers on?
Yes, clear packing tape. Really helps us use them a lot longer!
why do you use chux pads and not rubberized flannel pads that can be reused. do you put toothpaste on the toothbrush
We just water on her toothbrush because she may gag on toothpaste. We use disposable chux pads because they're easy.
Hi Abby what was the supplement for Raelynn’s bladder. Does it help with UTI and or kidney infections? I was just watching this video. Thanks so much for the help.
D-mannose. It helps some people with UTIs according to her urologist.
Great info on small barrel syringe
Does anyone know what her medical conditions are and how old she is?
She's 11 now, and she has epilepsy and cerebral palsy, among other things
What kind of suction machine do you have
We have a stationary one and a portable one.
I’m curious about something. Do you have to chart your daughter’s seizures?
When working as her nurse, yes. As a parent, no
Jordyn jakes sister has a pms . Wish she new that ❤
Can I ask you if you have suggestions on how to get home nursing if you can’t find a nurse and don’t have the ability to put a parent through PN/LVN school
We did best through Facebook ads and asking people we knew if they knew a nurse who might be interested.
I was just wondering can you get alaxa to sort of say say in a morning don't forget charging or maybe there's a specialist one for hospitals that you could buy imglad to see you're going on okay all of you ❤❤❤❤
Thanks
How coke the ice packs you didn't say?
We use them to keep her food cold since her food contains cream.
Love you ❤
How are you I'm from the UK. Briten how is she
Do you have a fan address where you can send her stuff😊
Chris has it somewhere on the other channel.
@@NurseAbby ok 👌 cause I was wanting to write ✍️ you all a letter and make her something . Are color her a picsure
Do you get burned out taking care of her? I have a disability and it might be Healthy to work other places so you use your skills nurses can earn a good amount and I know maybe it sounds weird but to be a nurse t of just for your daughter you were already a her caregiver? Drs usually don't treat their family members but for a mental health aspect I find it odd being that I require care myself I know the shortage issues of home health but being her mom /nurse their is no separation between the two even working a shift at a hospital prn would be good for you I'm not a nurse but you spent time getting this degree why not use it to your potential
I'm planning on it. Since I just recently graduated, I'm taking a little time to just work at home, and then I will probably find another patient to work with after I've rested some.
What time do you go to bed
That's irrelevant to this channel, sorry
You can do hard things. ❤❤❤❤
What time did you wake up
Before 7 am
Where did you get her Suction machine from
I don't know. Her hospital and insurance always provide these things to us
I LOVE RAELYNN
What does your daughter have?
Cerebral palsy and epilepsy, among other things
How many times does raylan have to go for botox in her legs
About every 6 months she can get Botox, and she gets it wherever it seems she needs it at the time (not always her legs)
Love 💕
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I use my phone to record
What time did your husband wake up

Stop calling yourself a nurse you maybe to others but you her mum thatsc what mums do
Of course. But this channel is about my role as a nurse.
Such a sad case, pain all the way around, with no realistic expectation of relief in this country, in this culture.
My husband, who has practiced palliative medicine, treating terminally ill and suffering patients here in the US, has observed that, in this country (unlike, for example, Luxembourg, Scandinavia, Belgium and other advanced European countries that practice euthanasia), we treat our animals with greater care and concern than we do our suffering citizens.
Advances in prenatal technology, together with widespread support for maternal choice, have prevented much of this unnecessary, barbaric suffering.
Most of Europe is now pretty secular. But there remain religionist practices here in the US that often prevent the termination of such tragic cases as this one.
One day, perhaps in another generation or so, we will look back on such cruel suffering in amazement.
Meanwhile, parental choice must be honored and the suffering child has no voice.
She's not in constant pain, and she's not terminally ill.
Lynnparish I don't think those comments are nice or called for ratelin is obviously very happy cheerful good quality of life, yes I do agree that more countries need to relax a bit on the euthanasia you may think this is wrong I've got very severe mental health issues, bpd which if you had experienced that and the tortorous mental pain with that, and the amount of people with that condition that end it, it's not just a thing that should be there for terminally I'll but others as well you can see that rayelin is so happy loved and well cared for I'm gobsmacked you have even put it on here🤬🤬🤬😄😄😄😄 smily faces are for rayelin and actually lynnparish you've not explained full story it's illegal in Holland except in specialist cases in Sweden only passive euthanasia is legal not active and in Switzerland at the well known clinic if you're mentally ill there's no guarantee they will accept you you have to provide medical records and info from your psychiatrist plus a big problem for people with severe mental health issues and I guess it can happen with physical illness, I don't suppose rayelin mum and dad have encountered it because in USA it's possible to holiday within USA or drive over border with Mexico but in mental health cases they can refuse to accept you on the flight if there's concern for other passengers safety if you had a mental collapse while flying I thought I'd correct fact that you haven't explained issue fully lynnparish
I never see you giving her a hug or kiss her you treat her like a patient. Talk to her she's your child I don't like you
I don't film all my interactions with her. I try to show and explain what a nurse would be doing with her so they can know if this is a job for them. I promise she gets smiles and kisses and attention from me but my channel is more about her medical care.
I have a suction machine
