What is amazing to me is how relaxed Jarzombek is here. At least LOOK like you're playing super hard and fast. The sheer effortlessness of his speed and the incredible amount of confidence he has in such complex music is almost unreal. No one else in music plays like this, and if they do, it's not nearly as difficult music.
Been keeping an eye on Ron Jarzombek since the first Watchtower recording. That was quite a while ago. He has evolved in to a master of tempo on his guitar. It's all written down on music sheets. What is going on in his head, is beyond any comprehension. Then add Alex and Charlie and you have something that is very hard to follow. I'm a long time drummer and I can play many different styles. If there happens to be something I can not play, I can at least figure out what is being done. Then it would take a vey long time to play it. This is something I can't figure out with out sheet music because, of the tempo changes. These guy's blow my mind! They play it like it was nothing. How, what?........I have no more words. This is just simply amazing.
The most unbelievable fact about this constellation of great musicians is that it sounds just as superb on the record as it does live. I shat bricks, my jaw dropped to the floor and my lust for a second album grew bigger when I watched this rehearsal video.
Is there a genre of "Mathematical Metal" ? Ron and his bandmates sure has excelled in this genre. While it may not always be a relaxing listening you cannot dispose of their excellece.
this is one of the greatest collaboration musical artist in the technical/progressive/extreme metal world! ron, alex and charlie did an excellent job in this album.. expressing there technical skill and superb composition.. keep it up guys! hope u will do another album.;)Godspeed!
Very true. I like Thordendal's work even more than Meshuggah. Problem is, it is very difficult to find for a decent price--hopefully there are downloads for all who are interested.
@tatt4music I wouldn't say totally different. A bass guitar is simply a lower tuned guitar with thicker strings, but they do play different roles in songs.
@EquinoxOfTheGods That's like saying no instrument is different since all instruments play essentially the same notes at different octaves. If a different role is played, then the instrument is different. Like a violin to a cello.
Almost live... Minus Charlie's headphone magic tricks throughout the song. Still pretty impressive. Their albums are a trip. Though, thoroughly quantized. Still a fan!
if you guys dont know, this is first time when they play this songs. run write all stuff, and send them to alex and Charlie. they learne it and meat together to play.thats is first time when they play together this song that is sick :DD
@sprawlmessiah i think the best bass fight in the world woudl be between Alex webster, and Steve DiGiorgio. i would give the edge to Steve just cause i play fretless too, and he makes fretless WORK for him. Alex got the BAM in his fingertips that sounds amazing here
@Musicman1ify I like JM a lot too, he's one of my favorites. I'm into Pain of Salvation, DT, Freak Kitchen, Zappa, Spastic Ink, but prog is about 20% of what I listen to. I find it harder and harder to find bands in that genre that are truly "progressive". The definition changes with everybody, but the closest example I can think of is what The Beatles did in '66 and forward. Truly innovative, and nothing that existed before. Hopefully while keeping the point of the song alive (lyrics/melody)
@UncleCthulhu How can you suggest picking is extremely useful for a bass and plucking on a violin is not? Violinists use it rather often to get the appropriate tone. Am I against using a pick on a bass, no. I think a pick is great when used in the right situation, just like finger picking. I get what you're saying though. :)
Drummer's tempo is slightly off at times. Still way better than I am though. Sounds like he's trying to follow their speed instead of setting it. When he gets warmed up though, he's pretty beast.
I am SO excited about Hannes Grossmann joining as the new drummer. Nothing against Mr. Zeleny, of course. I have just always been a huge fan Hannes' style and approach.
BLOTTED SCIENCE ROCKS!!!! Zeleny is a master of the drums Alex is one of most virtuos bassist in the world And Ron... Its a FUCKIN MASTER OF GUITAR, thats riffs and solos are fucking amazing!!! I dont have the pleasure of buy the original Cd Machinations of Dementia because in my country, argentina, it very dificult see the cd in a store, very very dificult. but i download it, SORRY!!, its GREAT!!! The best of Progresive Metal! Blotted Science! |m/ DEATH!!!!
@domonly Boy are you wrong. It takes much more endurance to be a bass player than a guitar player. There is no distortion to hide behind on bass. Most guitar players cannot play bass. They play guitar licks on bass and you can hear the difference. They are two totally different instruments. Therefore you should not even compare the two.
@tombrustler Yeah I agree- while for most mainstream rock or pop bands with simple-as-fuck basslines, the guitarist can pick up bass duties (wasn't that the case for U2? or some band, there were 2 guitarists and one was forced to go on bass), they certainly have their differences.
its criminal we dont have more videos like this in high def
Yes
I love webster. Such a precise and so humble bass player :)
Such a shame these songs were never played live...
Some songs have way too many guitar lines. 4 Ron could play them decently live :D

Only he and guthrie govan play complex and hard shit without effort
@@ThisCreepingLife Check Christophe Godin - Les 70s
someone's gotta mention Yoshida Tatsuya here, might as well be me.
Jeff Waters
I think it would be so awesome to see Ron Jarzombek, Jeff Loomis and Tosin Abasi get together and just destroy our ears
Dude that would be so fucking amazing
Waayyyy KOOL!!
Fiddlekrazy Steve
Hey Maybe with Mike Patton on Vox?? hehe!
Abasi just play more strings... after Cafo Abasi died
There would be too much greatness. simply too much. Matt Gartska on drums would just kill the universe
Ron and Bobby Jarzombek are the greatest musicians ever :)
"We don't need rehearsals. We're that good" HAHAHAHA Love blotted science man.
Drumming is mindblowing.
Then what is Ron's guitar work?

sounded like ~200bpm the whole time, to me...
lysyrg25 The time signatures are very inconsistent, and there are usually like 3 going at a given moment. But the tempo does seem fairly consistent
The tempo actually changes from 1-7 bpm frequently in the songs he matches up with images
I'm so glad I found out about these guys. Not enough people know they exist!
Unbelievable band. Jarzombek-Alex-Charlie Zeleny's drumming. All amazing!
I love how Ron's looking at the camera, smiling, and sweep picking perfectly all at the same time at 1:10.
all these guys are the incredible genius in the art of best metal on earth .
The most unbelievable fact about this constellation of great musicians is that it sounds just as superb on the record as it does live.
I shat bricks, my jaw dropped to the floor and my lust for a second album grew bigger when I watched this rehearsal video.
Can't wait for the new album Rob! Progressive metal has no sense without you
This is COOL. Wish this was in HiDef & waaaay over my head!

Unreal. that was INSANE!! Love these guys

Jesus the Chops in that room!🤘
Is there a genre of "Mathematical Metal" ?
Ron and his bandmates sure has excelled in this genre.
While it may not always be a relaxing listening you cannot dispose of their excellece.
Yeah, math rock / metal are an actual thing!
this is one of the greatest collaboration musical artist in the technical/progressive/extreme metal world! ron, alex and charlie did an excellent job in this album.. expressing there technical skill and superb composition.. keep it up guys! hope u will do another album.;)Godspeed!
That drummer is a beast.
Microphone can't handle all that bass coming from Alex and him at the same time.

i love the first album
you guys are so incredibly balls-out badass. fuckin mad props for finally gettin the band together again.
@Slashe50 Not sweeping actually, but three note per string string-skipping with position shifting... which is even more incredible

Very true. I like Thordendal's work even more than Meshuggah. Problem is, it is very difficult to find for a decent price--hopefully there are downloads for all who are interested.

YES, YES IT IS, lol. Sometimes I'll listen to it like 20 times in a row, and somehow each time it gets more unbelievable.

Kinda hard to hear Alex's bass at parts. And yeah, he makes his own guitars with usually fairly similar designs, more info on his website.

2:16 !!! Killer riffage!
Bobby's real busy with many different things as far as I know, which is why he was less involved on Ink Compatible
Damn that drummer is a fucking beast.
