Thank you for posting this! I do have a question though, i am a wedding dj and was wondering if the lights can be set to just one solid color and not move with music especially during the first dance and other moments during the wedding that i dont want lights moving all over the place. For example. I have par lights and moving heads set to a certain color for dirst dance, and dinner hour but music will be playing through rekordbox Can i set them to stay in a pause position with one color? I have ddj 1000 btw
This was very helpful. I just got the RB-DMX1 yesterday and tested it with my Gigbar 2. It works great. It isn't perfect but does quite well and requires no programming. DMX lighting has come a very long way in 20 years.
1. Can the tilt/pan on moving heads be controlled manually to point at a feature like a wedding cake? 2. For the early part of an event, is there now an option to have a static scene that over rides the phrase scenes linked to a track?
Awesome video thank you for the in-depth demo! I have a question about the standalone Pioneer XDJ-RX2. If you have it connected to your laptop in MIDI mode and using Rekordbox, can you use the RB-DMX1 side-by-side and use the hot cues and performance pads on the XDJ-RX2 to control the lighting in the same fashion as the other DJ Controllers?
I play music at a lot of festivals that has a huge line up so can i connect my DMX in the middle of a show and disconnect after my set without interrupting the entire lighting setup for the festival ?
You two trolls (Funk and Maher) need to relax. Kairav he answer is YES!!! YES YOU CAN!!! It would require you to coordinate with the lighting guy, and some may not be willing. But if they are, all they have to do is give you a DMX In to their control surface and then release the control to your board. It's rather easy to do in fact, just takes a few hours of pre-planning and prep work on both sides to be done right.
If you are using the Xdj Xz with the additional CDJ’s connected, are you able to use the pads to control the lighting when the cdj decks are live? Following onto the section you talked about with setting the touch pads from beat jump to lighting functions. I don’t know if the touch pads are locked to the deck channels inbuilt on the controller. Thanks
Am using a ddj 800 and I purchased the rb-dmx1 but whenever I plug it on on my MacBook pro it won't work i got two tomshine moving head i already find my fixtures but nothing happening can someone help me resolve this issue
Looking to purchase one of these... I have 2 questions that I can’t find anywhere! Using Rekordbox software with my XDJ700’s, what happened when transitioning from one track to the next? Or while drop swapping or on the fly mashups? Question 2, I also use a DDJ200 for the use of Tidal, so what is goi to happen to my lighting when I’m using my AUX input on the DJM450 to play a track from Tidal? Thanks in advance for the help?
I was curious about how the lighting function in Rekordbox actually worked, this video answered every question I had plus many more! Great job on this video both of you. To be clear, you only need a single DMX and can daisy chain the rest of the lights? What's the max amount of lights you can have on 1 DMX?
Thanks, glad it was helpful to you! To answer your questions, yes you can daisy chain all your lights together with a single DMX. You can have as many lights as you can fit within the 512 channels. If you have 51 lights that occupy 10 channels each, for example, they would all work off of one DMX unit as their total is 510 channels, not more than 512. Hope that helps :)
@@GetintheMix Technically you are correct but just a couple points. 1) You need to use DMX cables not XLR if you're going over say roughly 8-10 lights, or you'll start getting glitches. Also you need a DMX terminator. Also referring to your calculations you are mathematically right, but DMX daisy chain lines over 30 fixtures tend to induce more previously mentioned glitches so I would limit them to that many at a time, if you need more and you still have channel space buy a cheap DMX splitter ($100) and run a few separate lines that way it reduces glitches and isolates them to a certain group of fixtures. I own a medium sized lighting rig and have controlled lighting for several main stages at festivals, just trying to save you all some more of the hassle that is DMX. Love that this is bring quality lighting to smaller shows.
I'm still confused by the limitations of this. I'm a moderately advanced user when it comes to lighting software (Showcad 3, not a real desk). Can you create your own scenes and cues? Such as creating custom movements and effects? Or does Rekordbox give you a pre-made selection for the supported lights? Edit: In laymen's terms... can I make it so they all do a custom movement with a touch of a button.
You can create your own movements and effects. However, it's important to note that lighting sequences are tied to a track and are not independent of that track, meaning that if you wish to play a certain scene/sequence then you need to be playing the song tied to that scene/sequence.
The software is always being updated by Pioneer and it comes packaged with the Rekordbox updates which include bug fixes, new fixture support etc. In regards to moving heads with gobos, they are currently working on this! It's quite a bit more complicated than changing colour and moving the light around which is pretty much the same across all lights. From light to light gobos are different and can behave differently, it will take some developing for them to implement it in a way that is effective but it is being worked on currently.
@@GetintheMix Rubbish!! The lighting software has NEVER been updated after more than 18 months.... show us, for example, how it can control gobo's or zoom......oh wait a minute - IT CAN'T...!!!!!! and further to your uneducated comment re gobos being more complicated - no more complicated than colour or movement - it's just another dmx channel....
I've been intrigued with this application over the last year seeing it in my settings on Rekordbox Live. I'm glad you made this comment before I buy the dongle. I would be bummed out if I weren't able to select the gobos, multi facets/prisms, etc... on the lights I paid good money for. I've been using MyDMX Go for small to mid set up DMX light shows and I love it. Thank you for the comment Darrell.
I feel.like it is lock and I can't do no lighting edits like I was doing a week ago. I don't know what happened. Everything I try to change the color it goes back to the same color, I click on a section it takes me back to the beginning of the song. If I remove a color the color just goes right back on. Do you know what seems to be the problem?
um sorry to be the party boomer here in the chat but i am pretty new to this lighting things and i dont understand so much of what you guys are saying because it is going too fast and i am having a bad time understanding so i am sorry to deliever this annoying message. pls if you do have any way of making this alot easier for me to understand feel free to write me a message on this comment and i will shortly respond... thank you for your time :)
Lights use a protocol called DMX to be addressable. A 'universe' has up to 512 'things' in it. Each one of those lights hanging there, might have multiple "things" (motors, LEDs, etc.) You connect up all your lights, and have them separately addressable by specifying a start number. Your first light might start at '1'. The next light might start at '9', and so on. In this rekordbox example, in the software you set up a 'venue' and give it the information on your lights (what make/model, what number its set to, etc.) Then, rekordbox will control the lightshow by sending out a signal that all the lights listen to. You can mess around with presets, but rekordbox should simplify the initial use of the lights by providing presets that does nice things with them.

So much detail in such a short time. Excellent.
It took 15:00 minutes for me to figure out what I came here for. Thank you :)
12:35 love how he's listing it off synced to the music
Beat jump is AMAZING for setting hot cues. Set the first hot cue, beat jump 16 bars and set the second hot cue, repeat
Or on the fly looping...I'd say it's the feature I use the most, both in prep and live.
Great Video!
I got a rx2 and I was wondering on the compatibility. Thank u so much
XLR cables will cause glitches if you try to run bigger rigs, for small gigs it's fine, but for bigger gigs you need DMX cables and a DMX terminator.

I was wondering the same thing
Didnt know you can control light on the controler, nice!

When i mix in my 2nd song ( deck 2 ) Rekord boxx does not know to play the lights for that track. Its stuck on track 1 ( deck a ) any fix for this?
How do I get it to give me the auto button? All I have on my screen is Manuel button.
How do you add more par-light, only 4 available by default i list where you add Them to channels

Thanks!
how can you change the light scenes with the pads? by hot cues? is there any other way of just light scenes not afffecting to de music? thankss
