  • Overland Mongolia. Tiny home 4x4 overland truck crosses the Gobi desert off road. It has been a dream of mine to cross the Gobi Desert since my late teens. 20 years later my dream has come true. I am in Mongolia in a self built overland truck, ready to cross the desert off road in my 10 ton off road truck Matilda.
    The stunning landscapes could easily be mistaken for Mars. This is just the beginning. Its going to get cold. Really cold. Later the temperatures drop below -30˚c. Then the troubles start.
    After Mongolia we head to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia before heading to Georgia and Europe. Road trip off a life time.

      I have lived in Mongolia for the last 2.5 years and still amazed at the beauty. I ride a motorcycle most places but also have a F250 truck. Love your setup, great adventure trucks. We are coming into winter and makes you realise how resilient and tough the Nomadic people are!

    The Gobi desert is one of the most fascinating places on earth! They have lived there for over 10 thousand years without any influence from the rest of the world.
    Seeing what there is to see there must have been incredible. Thanks to adventurous people like you guys we can watch it comfortably at home.

      I watched the whole video to see what part you’re referring to! I think you’re one of the producers or something like that 😂 a quick question, the bike of the shepherd you meant, is that correct? Cuz I found the earlier scene when they struggled to move the truck up the hill was really an apocalyptic one!

    8:22 I stopped and just drooled at that.... I watch a lot of videos here and I have to tell you, I never sat on the edge of my seat and leaned into the monitor as I have with your video. This is a dream trip for me, seemingly never coming to fruition but a dream non the less. I never thought I would be living in Thailand either so hey........ The video was stunning, the videography was stunning and for the detractors that have never been in the open desert no matter the microphone used when the wind is blowing 50 mph you have wind noise. It is life and it just is the way it is. The video was prefect as the audio made you feel the -18 with the -60 windchill. I am in awe of this adventure mate!!!! Thanks for the upload and the time it takes to do these! Live on sir live on!!!!!

    You have taken great trouble to present this journey to us. 🙏 from India.
    Frankly the journey looks scary and bleak. Even the sturdy trucks wobbles dangerously on the rough terrain. So lonely. The drone shots emphasis the vastness of the desert and isolation of the travellers. After seeing this video I think that the earth is not crowded at all! Your photography is outstanding to say the least. Thanks again.👌👏🏻💐

    Amaizing! Did you know there is a very small number of grizzly bears in the Gobi desert?

      Ricardo Lamartine it is not grizzly but much smaller bear. This bear is unique to this area and on the brink of extiction. Only less than 50 remained.

      @@matthewpayneadventurerfilm8902 thanks I added it to my play list. I thought these were unimogs at first. I did see your other video just now where you gave an overview of the DAF. Here in the U.S. we can import vehicles that weren't sold here if they are at least 25 years old. Unimogs and land rover defenders are going for crazy prices. The DAF seems like an amazing vehicle especially with that Cumins engine.

    Just subscribed to your channel, Love your videos, I really appreciate the effort put in making them, although I would like to suggest you naming the titles a little better so they are in order, reason being I’m lost in finding the next episode and unclear if that was your follow up episode.

    Glad to see you are making videos of your trip. I thought you had given up on the film making as you were back home and not added them. Guess far more sensible to enjoy your time, snap the videos and then edit during winter in the UK! If you started over, would you still choose the same DAF 4x4 for your trip? Are there any other options you would consider about the same size?

    • @matthewpayneadventurerfilm8902
      @matthewpayneadventurerfilm8902  4 роки тому +2

      Good question. The Daf T244 is super tough and very well built. There are some common issues mostly related to age. I will make a video soon to deal with these. The Daf was a truck i wanted from the beginning. But i considered all options, from Land rovers, Hilux's and various vans. The Daf T244 was what brought the biggest smile to my face and gave me a nice homely space. But don't under estimate the amount of work involved in doing proper job. Would i build a T244 again? Yes. I would. In fact i would happily build one for a customer. Having now got a bug for trucking around the world I would be very tempted to build myself another, possibly based on a MAN KAT 1. I love those.

    Mongolia has too many tourists now, it was better in the 90's when , I got married in UB. At that time, you could go to a town and be the only foreigner. Most foreign people see Mongolia looking from the outside in, a bit like going to your local zoo. Mongolia has changed alot since Rio Tinto started ripping off the country. People have moved to the city on mass looking for mining jobs, and losing contact with countryside life. You must be rich to have such a truck?

    • @matthewpayneadventurerfilm8902
      @matthewpayneadventurerfilm8902  3 роки тому

      As I was there in the winter I did not see any tourist. And very few people outside of the towns. I am certainly not rich by Western standards. I sold everything I have to live my dreams.

    • @Travelingman-1980

      @@matthewpayneadventurerfilm8902 winter is the season for foreign workers who live there, so I can understand the tourists would have been limited. Still Mongolia is more equipped for tourism now then in the 90's. In the 90's the country was financially bust and people were selling themselves. I have been married to a Mongolian lady for 20 years so, I have an inside view and connection with the Mongol people. I see many tourists believe they are in National Geographic when they go to Mongolia. For some strange reason Mongolia has that affect on Western visitors, not all but many on UA-cam.Traveling overland in Mongolia has become common today, and due to mining there are more tarred roads. I traveled all over Mongolia via shitty little Russian buses and work trips. If I need to travel, I just travel with my Mongol family, no big deal really. Anyway, cheers from Australia.
