The movie was great.. I almost cried when they said Napoleon destroyed his music. I hope someone can find his lost music .
Left out that his violin instructor in Guadeloupe was a black estate manager and his period as head (colonel) of Europe's first all black regiment The Legion of Americans aka Black Legion aka Legion de St Georges, where his next in command was another black, Thomas Alexandre Dumas from Saint Domingue (Haiti), who would go on to become a General in charge of 50,000 of Napoleon's troops and who was the father of Alexandre Dumas, French author of The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo
I'm surprised they didn't mention how George's music composition and life inspired Mozart to dedicate a piece in homage to him.
Which piece, i like to hear it.
@@tainorosario8902 Leck mich im Arsch. It's a beautiful piece, so fit as a homage for a thid rate musician
They collaborated on a piece that made Mozart famous.
@MalikaTika
No they didn’t. Mozart was famous before Bologne had started composing, and they never collaborated.
@@luckybag6814Where are these fools getting this misinformation? I know there were to novels written that embroidered the truth. Its so ludicrous because Mozart’s music demolishes any of Bologne's compositions.
Needs to be a movie about this
there is now
@@Syoma whats it called ?
@@JiggaMan1297 the trailer just released just now! its called "CHEVALIER"
@@sinkingship4454 thats amazing, thank you
@@JiggaMan1297 ur welcome hehe it seems u predate the movie 😅
Movie is going to be epic!!!!
Never liked the 18th century. But I like this man.
I honestly just heard about this after the trailer for Chevalier in the theaters. Can't wait to see it.
There's now a new movie called Chevalier, opening Apr 21 in North America. It stars Kelvin Harrison Jr, Samara Weaving, Lucy Boyton
Great Job . I really appreciate your work. Thank you. 🇺🇲👍
Excelente!
Kinda like a rap battle, only with fancier instruments...
yet rap surpassed classical music in every measurable category lol.
@@9primeofficial ok
@@trevorhurlock3291 yuh
This stuck out to me too. Don't most rap battles include audio equipment far more advanced than anything invented in that time?
@@EagleLeader1 Right. What's decent Rap battle without a boombox...? 😁
Wow!!! Educational and informative!
Napoleon also had an issue with Alexandre Dumas' grandfather, who was also Black (Dumas is a famous writer who ppl don't realize is of Black lineage). I believe he imprisoned him on an island, but he got away.
Love
I enjoyed this video very much; it was short, narrated and illustrated very well. I now know why he died.
Amazing could you make one by Gustav badin aswell
Why does the Wikipedia spell it Bologne and not Boulogne?
Don't you think "The most famous musician and composer you've never heard" is a little insulting?
I've known his music for years, and I'm not that erudite.
There was another wealthy man by the last name Boulogne at the time so it gets mixed up a lot. Even in France. From what I've seen, It's Bologne.
It is Bologne. There is a famous brand of rhum from Guadeloupe bearing the same name. It is from the same family
@@TheJosephBologne wasn't it about status as well! Such as "Christopher Columbus" versus his birth name "Christforo Colombo"
Being ordained by a Queen gave Columbus status!
@feraudyn
Too many ignorant people out there who don’t read books, or look under “B” in the sheet music shop.
Then because they’ve never heard of someone they think he’s been “erased”.
You’re right, it’s insulting and tiresome. But maybe he’s less known in America; being in with the aristocracy offends their republican sentiments? But this is the BBC, which should know better.
18th century karens
Karens and Daphnes what are we going to do with them? 😎
What's the paintings name at 01:43?
Why would France would want to keep this a secret 🤔.
Probably because of the revolution.
Everybody around the royal familly, aristocrats and priests was suspect to be an ennemy or had a death penalty. His music was known by the Court. And he was closed to the queen Marie Antoinette. It was probably dangerous for him). He was in jail for a few months). He died in 1799 and I think he was forgotten in the revolution tourments and the napoleonian wars. If he had live more I think he would have continued to compose.
Because while reinstating slavery in 1802 Napoleon decided to dehumanize all black people for political reasons. Erasing the black chevaliers history was part of that.
started bogie woogie
Napoleon....... little man complex!
I bet you wouldn't have said that to Napoleon's face, though.
@@classicalmusic1175et the shoves, boys! We're going digging!
Also what a weird thing to say.
Joseph Boulogne IS BLACK 🖤 Blessings and Hugs 💖💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕!
Mixed race actually. His father was white.
@@classicalmusic1175 Yes a wealthy white slave owner, , Joseph would not of been playing music of this style to the Royal Family had he been BLACK.
Decent enough composer for the time. but because he's black that somehow makes him a genius.
WTF?
He was rewarded, by being thrown in jail... well, there are a few new and interesting things going since then...😊
He was too chummy with the nobles who were publicly enemy number one to the revolutionaries
