As a base runner... Once the fielder has become a pitcher, and the rubber has been engaged...my eyes are laser focused on the pitcher’s cleats until he makes a motion towards the batter. Watching a dude’s cleats is super boring, but super helpful. I do like Antonelli’s pro tips here. Can give the runner a sharper edge.
I've never thought about it being an easy bag to steal but I guess since the pitcher is looking away that's helpful. I worry more about the catcher having the short throw and being able to throw powerfully across his body without much adjustment. This was a helpful video. Thank you for the tips.
Very informative and well thought through techniques. I only played baseball up until pony league and dont follow it anymore because watching it bores me to tears, loved playing when I was younger though. I recently stumbled upon one of your videos a couple weeks ago and have binge watched many of your videos. It's awesome to hear how much you achieved in your baseball career and I wish you well in your future endeavors. Good luck man thanks for the awesome videos.
@@AntonelliBaseball BACKSTORY: I went out for baseball today. I have 2 years of experience (2 summer, one really bad covid fall ball.) Im also a freshmen. ANYWAY I fielded a groundball that had to have been hit 85mph with scaredness, but it was also easy. Without your videos i wouldn't have. I also have watched a shitton of your hitting videos. When i went in the cage i was hitting bombs. We then went to live bp and i smacked one so hard in between third and shortstop (Both juniors) that they both froze and only got one or two steps in before it went in between them. it seemed like i got under some other freshmen skins. Ive put in the hours and put in the practice everyday. So for me to play for one of the worst baseball 8th grade teams then turn around and be better than almost all the other freshmen (at hitting definitely, but maybe not fielding) seemed to bug them. I also have 3 d1 coaches which should get me some good opportunities if i perform well. Bottom line is i put in the work and effort and im going to start getting recognised. Putting in the work is half of it, but having great teachers like you is the other half. Last thing. One of the ''best'' baseball freshmen players was bullying me at school for wanting to play at a high level. At practice our best player (senior) said, ''His swings better than yours. He's coming after your spot.'' So right now im just celebrating the fact that all my hard work has payed off, probably a little high on the ego right now. Thank you for posting videos that gav e me that chance. -Ps If you every hear, ''Pearly white.'' Or, ''Buns of steal.'' In a couple of years you'll know i made it.
Great thoughts ... since I was timed with a sun dial I wasn't asked to steal that much. I think I could've used this with hit and run. Because a was speed challenged this would have helped a lot in my success with the hit and run. Thanks again.
Matt, Can you do a video on conditioning. My son is 15 and were thinking about doing something this offseason. $200 a month... Do your guys do conditioning work.. Do u suggest year round training or offseason for high school players.. What training do you do at AB baseball.. Whatever you recommend, I'm all ears.. Love the channel, keep growing my friend..
Robert Tirschman I play college ball and you don’t need to pay $200 a month for conditioning. Have your son lift and he will stand out from the rest of the players in high school, have him run up hills and do box jumps to strengthen his legs and make him fast. It can all be done for free if you get creative!
@@codeine4346 Thanks, I just dont know all the proper lifts for position players and pitchers and I didnt want to get him injured. Yeah I don't really want to pay $200 a month..and that was the best price around.
I'm a high school player and I train daily. Like the other guy said it can be done for free but there are a couple things that might be worth the investment. I personally bought some resistance bands, a medicine ball, and a dumbbell kit even though most gyms will have all of those things because it is super convenient to have them whenever and wherever I want. Probably cost me like 50 bucks. I'll copy and paste my stuff Every day routine: - good, long stretch - resistance bands - rotator cuff lifts - 20x heavy ball throws (weighted softball) - Swing mechanics/tee work (whatever is necessary) - core stuff Every other day: - 10x 10 yard sprints - 5x 60 yard sprints OR - 8x long hill sprints - 3x 60 yard sprints OR - Half mile to a mile run - 3x 60 yard sprints OR - Lifting for legs AND - Dumbbell lifting arms AND - Long Toss into the Shed AND - Medicine ball exercises I divide the every other day stuff over the two days and sometimes take days off when I feel a little burnt out or sore. It's a pretty flexible workload and I don't usually go too far past an hour/hour and a half of work each day.
It's really important to lift as a baseball player. In case he doesn't have a weightsclass in school or he wants to lift on his own I would do a lot of research and try to figure out a plan that could work. He could talk to his strength and baseball coaches about a workout plan for him. It is always good to try to coach yourself but also get some advice from someone doing it for a long time. Compound lifts like squats and deadlifts, explosive exercises like Cleans and Bench press variations should be the main lifts. When he is coming closer to pre-season he should switch it up to more game realistic movement like medball throws etc. He should throw a lot of longtoss over the course of the offseason and work on his shoulder and rotator cuff strength in the weightroom. When we are talking about conditioning I would avoid 3 mile runs and rather do more sprints because that is what you need. Plyometrics for becoming more explosive and for speed sled drags and pushes as well as hill sprints are great. He should follow @simone_baseball_performance and @drheenan on Instagram. They both make really good posts on baseball specific stuff. Personally I wouldn't spend money on any programs but if he really wants a program that structures his offseason, I'd probably take the off season blueprint by simone. I have heard a lot of good stuff about the program and this guy also works with minor leaguers. Also if he can't do certain exercises because he doesn't have the equipment, just replace it by another one.
as a base runner i don’t really have much speed anymore but i use base iq well not really just the simple stuff i time up the pitcher by using the UCLA method and i also check out his movements like does he look back not set then when he is set does he look, like i always steal third when the pitcher looks one time, say for example he comes set looks at you and you know he looks once get that extra 2 steps off lead and then since you timed him up take off and bam, and btw on the maximum look part as they go through the getting on the rubber and getting set i always get extra steps bc you know what if they don’t look back you already have a huge lead but if they do you just take a step back and your good , but if they never look back and you have a huge lead well you have an easy base, i’ve always been told even at lower younger levels im a very aggressive base runner and i will always keep that in my head while im on, that i am aggressive and will get that bag, i dont think i’ve ever really been thrown out before, maybe at second on a bad jump but when i steal third i always have a great jump , and it always makes me run a little faster knowing that the catcher is more likely to get me here so it gets me the best jumps knowing i gotta get going.
I was watching the Cubs game, last night, and I was wondering if you would comment on Chris Bryant's wide stance, and also the bat he uses. I've never seen one like it.
I have a question what position did you play for MLB because right now I play short stop and I am about to go into high school level and wanted to get some tips.
Could you do a video explaining the difference between A, AA and AAA Baseball and how you move up through the different leagues? I appreciate your content!
Is there a minimum speed magic number where if you know you can best it, you have a good chance to steal? Obviously the faster the better but is there any real minimum?
Take a stop watch and time yourself stealing 3rd...then know the pitchers time to the plate and the catchers time to 3B. You can do the math before you even get on the bases and know if you have a good chance. Tough to get the time of catcher to 3B however since they rarely throw there. Easier to 2B. Thanks for watching our stuff and commenting!!
Another question, did you ever have to deal with a locker room cancer? Maybe someone who thought they were too good to be in the minors and really brought down the mood of the locker room. Perhaps someone that was cut because they were a cancer. Not asking for names but in general did this ever happen?
Adalberto mondesi is gonna argue when he hears that the best time is steal third is with one out. For him its with 2 outs because teams let him do it anyways, he’s just trying to beef up his stats
