You are so right about checking for authentic “hand made goods”. More often than not, they are made in other countries and not the quality one would expect from the prices that are required to buy them.
WARNING: His taste is impeccable, but his collections are *not* always handcrafted. So you'd better ask about things made in Italy. And if you can afford to, visit the studio to see for yourself. Made in Italy sounds impressive, but that doesn't explain what aspects of production are handcrafted and which parts are automated or done by well, immigrants doing piece work in what we might think of as sweatshops (even in Italy). Often Eastern Europeans work for much less in western Europe, so it's worth taking a look if you care and dare to spend thousands of dollars on a single piece.
