A humbled English translation: When to the door thou appearst with thine girdle on thine waist Ah, ah! The knife I took to cut an apple but it slipped and I cut the hand and the finger; Oh, how thou breaks my heart! (meaning: by thine loveliness) When to the garden thou appearst Why don’t thou wave at me? Ah, ah! The knife I took to cut an apple but it slipped and I cut the hand and the finger; Oh, how thou breaks my heart! (by thine loveliness) A personal reflection: I listened to this song after being inspired by a friend that this might be a symbol similar with the one told in monotheistic religions regarding prophet Joseph (Yusuf) and Zulaikha. One familiar with this story (at least according to Islamic tradition) knows that prophet Yusuf was a very beautiful human being, outside and inside. And one time the women of Egypt were gathered by Zulaikha to simply look at Yusuf, who at that time was a slave of Zulaikha. The women were in the feast, organised by Zulaikha, cutting some oranges and enjoying the night... when Yusuf appeared in front of them serving Zulaikha, all got drunk by his beauty such that they cut their hands and didn't notice it until afterwards... ... what remains is the taste of the that kind of drunkenness when one sees something extraordinarily beautiful, which I think the author of this song has tried to express. Here is another beautiful version of this traditional song: ua-cam.com/video/Rk6MbgYcd1A/v-deo.html

I can hear now, that your roots are definitely Gheg (or from Northern Albania to English-only readers). I like what you've personally brought to this. I'm so happy I found your channel, what a great performance, excellent writing, well done; I love it! Who are your main influences, if I may ask? My favorite is Nexhmije Pagarusha. I also like Liljana Kondakci, although she is more radio friendly...among the new age studio stuff, I like Eli Fara, Selami Kolanja, and Irini Qirjako, to name a few. For new age Tosk writers, the Hilas have good tracks IMHO, like this one, by Edüart Dëma: ua-cam.com/video/fICZF3bIzX4/v-deo.html Mr. Dëma's heavily auto-tuned stuff isn't nearly as good though, (auto-tune ruins it for me) but I LOVE THAT SONG!! (Cool video too!)
